Emily recently wore these adorable Gap khakis--which she found in the men's section! They're so relaxed and baggy, but I love how she rolled them up and wore heels.What do you think? Would you wear men's pants? (Here's the women's version.)

ReplyDeleteI've bought mens trousers from GAP before now, I wanted some straight cut black cords and the womens were the same but SO low-cut and I don't feel comfortable like that. I like choosing different leg lengths in the mens too! I could never find the right pair of trousers (lived in skirts) until I started shopping in the mens section - normally I dress quite girly but I like trousers to be real trousers.

ReplyDeleteActual men's pants don't work with my female curves. I have a small waist and full hips/butt so I need to use pants that are actually cut for women, otherwise they look bad and gape or are too tight in all the wrong places. I think you'd have to have a very straight figure for that to work. They look kind of cute on Emily, but there is still some pouching going on in the crotch area that I think would probably be unflattering while walking. I do like the proportions; I'd just use actual women's pants.

ReplyDeleteThe only time I've worn men's pants (and probably ever will) is pre-baby, when someone would show up at the door and I was still in my jim-jams or undies and they were the only thing available.
ReplyDeleteI went in to the men's section at gap to look at khaki's last fall, and I thought I finally found the perfect "boyfriend" pair, but flinched because of one fatal flaw, the crotch. As mentioned by a few other readers, the extra room in the lady bits region is not so flattering.

ReplyDeleteYes. I found a pair of great Banana Republic men's pants. The pockets are huge and the fit is really comfortable and good, not overly masculine. The material is a little stretchy so there's not a whole lot of extra room in the crotch, but yes, the slightly slouchy look is good. I roll them up and wear them with a fitted cardigan or tee. I'd say my figure is on the boyish side, though, so I can't speak for other body types.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea, but in reality, as everyone has said, they are so uncomfortable! I'm also only 5'4" and do have hips, so it's frustrating if that is your body type. I love the look of a tucked in shirt to nice flat front trousers though. Just wish I could pull it off! And yes, the crotch is the reason they're so uncomfortable!

ReplyDeleteboyfriend jeans are tricky to pull off. i'm working a pair about a size too big from Joe Fresh (big Canadian clothier) and i roll the cuffs up and roll the waist down. This eliminates the saggy crotch part. I also try to wear longer shirts with the jeans.

ReplyDeleteDo! I am quite curvy when it comes to hip/waist proportions, and most of the time, men's pants fit better than women's, even in the crotch area. Men's pants often hit higher at the waist, and are easier to take in if needed. And I'm about 5'5", and they don't make me look bulky or short! You just have to find the right ones!

ReplyDeleteI'd rather wear womens pants with a menswear feel, that way I'll know they'll fit correctly but I can still achieve. I mean, we have parts that mens clothing can't accommodate properly unless the pieces aren't fitted.
I think she wears them well and they look quite chic (despite being a bit long in the crotch). But I really wouldn't really describe them as baggy. They don't really look like men's pants at all. I've seen women's pants look more baggy, relaxed and masculine than this. So is it okay to wear men's pants? Depends on the style of the men's pants in question and it depends on the woman's body shape. I personally would rather wear a man-style pant designed for a woman's body so the fit is more appropriate for my figure. Sorry for the rant! :)

They really worked with my little teenage figure, and I looked fashion-forward since bermuda shorts were not popular for women at the time. I also love men's blazers on women - although, it has to be a fitted blazer that isn't too big.

They really caused my own little young figure, and I searched fashion-forward considering bermuda underdrawers wasn't well-known for ladies during the time. I should say also really like men's blazers in women - even though, it must be described as a equipped sport jacket that is not too large.
