Emily recently wore these adorable Gap khakis--which she found in the men's section! They're so relaxed and baggy, but I love how she rolled them up and wore heels. What do you think? Would you wear men's pants? (Here's the women's version.)

hmm, DO if you're at least 5'7. so that means DONT for me. :-)
ReplyDeleteI wear men's pants all the time. In fact my best denim cut-offs used to belong to my hubby. Check it here
ReplyDeletewww.clotheshorsenyc.com
Yes!!!! I love them!! I love her blog too!!
ReplyDeleteI've bought mens trousers from GAP before now, I wanted some straight cut black cords and the womens were the same but SO low-cut and I don't feel comfortable like that. I like choosing different leg lengths in the mens too! I could never find the right pair of trousers (lived in skirts) until I started shopping in the mens section - normally I dress quite girly but I like trousers to be real trousers.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about it but the saggy crotch. Let's face it, men and women just have different needs in pants!
ReplyDeleteWith her body, a MAJOR do! i'm only 5'3"...i think i'd look silly, but she looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI like them but they seem a bit baggy in the nether region. No?
ReplyDeleteActual men's pants don't work with my female curves. I have a small waist and full hips/butt so I need to use pants that are actually cut for women, otherwise they look bad and gape or are too tight in all the wrong places. I think you'd have to have a very straight figure for that to work. They look kind of cute on Emily, but there is still some pouching going on in the crotch area that I think would probably be unflattering while walking. I do like the proportions; I'd just use actual women's pants.
ReplyDeleteHalf of my pants fit like this, because I was about two sizes larger when I bought them. Now they kind of hang and sag, and I hate that! So...basically...I would not buy this type of pant.
ReplyDeleteShe looks so cute!
ReplyDeleteThey just asked the same question over here...
http://asktheduplex.blogspot.com/2011/04/reader-submission.html
Thought you might get a kick out of this broken heart cake!
ReplyDeletehttp://picturesofcake.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-do-you-mend-broken-heart.html
The crotch on men's pants is the problem.
ReplyDeleteShe looks fab! I on the other hand am too short and chubby to pull this look off. But it is a great look!
ReplyDeleteThe only time I've worn men's pants (and probably ever will) is pre-baby, when someone would show up at the door and I was still in my jim-jams or undies and they were the only thing available.
ReplyDeleteI went in to the men's section at gap to look at khaki's last fall, and I thought I finally found the perfect "boyfriend" pair, but flinched because of one fatal flaw, the crotch. As mentioned by a few other readers, the extra room in the lady bits region is not so flattering.
ReplyDeleteI normally love Emily's outfits but these pants just don't look like they fit her. They're not doing her little frame any justice. Roll up the women's version and at least it'll look like they fit.
ReplyDeleteamelia, that is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI agree, w/ anonymous... the crotch is a problem... she's so adorable and I love her blog; not loving these pants on her.
ReplyDeleteaw, anonymous, i love that broken heart cake :)
ReplyDeleteI never tryed wearing men's pants, but it looks good on her and I really love her shoes!
ReplyDeletewww.soyfrivolita.blogspot.com
I love how they look on her. Its totally DO for me and I adore her striped tee too:) Have a lovely afternoon! Kisses
ReplyDeleteNo, they look all wrong, they are form-fitting in the legs, and the waist and crotch look all our of wack.
ReplyDeleteWith the right body type a definite do!
ReplyDeleteMy husband LOVES me in things like these. Emily looks super cute as always.
ReplyDeleteYes Yes a thousand times Yes!
ReplyDeleteI love that she rocked these men's pants! It makes sense since they sell "boyfriend" pants for women but probably mark them up more!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I just love those pants! I wish I could pull of the high rise look though. I may just try again!
ReplyDeleteMy hubs and I are nearly the same height. I wear his button-down shirts belted over leggings and skinny jeans all the time. And he NEVER notices that I'm wearing his clothes until I tell him. Such. A. Guy. ;)
ReplyDeleteDO wear boyfriend pants: androgyny can be very chic, just look at Coco Chanel. DON'T wear your boyfriend's actual pants, these will never ever fit or look good!
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit :)
Definite DO.
ReplyDeleteNot everybody can pull it off, but if the figure is slim, I think it's gorgeous. I love it!
ReplyDeleteTotal DO if you've got long legs. I'm 5'1, so I don't know if I could pull this off. Damn the maxi dress/maxi skirt & the boyfriend pants! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's all I used to wear! Especially during the 90's/early 00's when we had the awful high waisted trend (i.e. Bongo)!
ReplyDeleteI didn't make the switch back to women's until I discovered Abercrombie (their style fit better than my favorite pair of guy jeans! Or just as good anyway :).
No. All men pants have room for extra equipement that girls just don't need; and named room is sagging and...no.
ReplyDeleteI like the look. It is fresh, but I would have not never looked for a pair of jeans in the men's section. Maybe that is why I have not found one that I like ;)
ReplyDeleteVictoria.
It's a definite do. Shopping the Old Navy Boys department is one of my secrets -- super cute and affordable! (men's clothes are often much less expensive than women's)
ReplyDeleteI think the women's pants fit better, but sometimes you just want a relaxed roomy feel. The women's cut is for fit (for men looking at us), not comfort.
ReplyDeleteDo do! Even with shorter legs and a long torso, I am *trying* to rock this. (Granted, I am also trying to disguise my new mama tummy and thighs so the bagginess is perfect and er, comfy!)
ReplyDeleteBut, I agree with Mocha Mornings, no way on the maxi dress/skirt trend! Well, maybe if you're 6 feet tall?!
Ginny
I wish they looked good on me. I usually only wear flares!
ReplyDeleteMelanie's Randomness
She would look gorgeous in anything!
ReplyDeleteI think that if you have hips that don't like like Shakira, J.Lo, or myself, it probably wouldn't work, {I don't know the last time I saw am man with hips :)} But if you are cute and slender, like Emily...wear away!!
ReplyDeleteIf they fit me like THAT, yes...but I don't think men's pants would fit me that way...maybe the boy's section!
ReplyDeleteThe crotch on those pants gives me a headache. I love everything else.
ReplyDeleteI'm with most everyone else here, the crotch here is an issue. I do love boyfriend pants/jeans, but all mine are women's pants cut really loose, and they just hang better.
ReplyDeletehttp://nomadic-d.blogspot.com/
too much crotch! :) there are too many nice girl versions of these pants, why go to the men's section?
ReplyDeleteSure, but only if I never sat down. I can't even imagine where all that fabric in the crotch is going to go when I sit. YIKES!
ReplyDeletehaha, i hear the point about the crotch, although that's kind of what i love about the look! :) relaxed, low key, slouchy... :)
ReplyDeleteI like them a lot especially paired with the heels, but I think I'd go with the women's version to avoid the bagginess in the crotch region...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure most females will think this is super comfortable because your pants are typically so tight.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, there's something nice about a female in a more fitted style of pant (not read: skinny fit).
If it's for you, have fun with it.
Ryan
http://www.fashables.com/w
I like the way it looks but I wont do it
ReplyDeletehttp://girlynote.blogspot.com
yes yes yes! absolute DO. except i have big hips so maybe not for me until after this baby! :]
ReplyDeletei'm not digging the saggy crotch either. it kind of commands your attention away from the other details of her outfit like her cute heels. they are probably really comfy though!
ReplyDeleteI'm not loving the saggy crotch and I don't think it would really work for someone with hips and ample rear. Ahem, me.
ReplyDeleteYes. I found a pair of great Banana Republic men's pants. The pockets are huge and the fit is really comfortable and good, not overly masculine. The material is a little stretchy so there's not a whole lot of extra room in the crotch, but yes, the slightly slouchy look is good. I roll them up and wear them with a fitted cardigan or tee. I'd say my figure is on the boyish side, though, so I can't speak for other body types.
ReplyDeleteLove this look!
ReplyDeleteI like her look but i've tried to wear men trousers (they are longer, and I was too tight on $ as a student to buy long jeans at the Gap...)
ReplyDeleteProblem is that the zipper is too long. Standing up as she does it's fine but when you sit, as there is no "package" there it just curls around and it does not look nice... really not nice...
Babou
I love how it looks on the waist and legs, but not on the crotch. That wouldn't work on wide hips...
ReplyDeleteAnd I guess, I wouldn't feel very lady like so I will skip this and pick the lady version, which is still a little baggy but perfectly feminine.
Actually I love to weat boyfriend panths, t-shirtys, blazers or anything related :) especially they are literally belong to my boyfriend :)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks cool and casual.
http://lacivertojelikiz.blogspot.com
Hmm, it's not something I would think of doing but of course Emily pulls it off so well. I'm sure it just depends on your body type and how you style them.
ReplyDeleteI wear man pants and I love them. I love Emily's shoes.
ReplyDeletegrew up HAVING to wear men's pants/jeans ~
ReplyDeletenow I am too curvy, but would still like to be able to - there is always a long enough length in store (as opposed to online) and they are CHEAPER!
i like it. my favorite jeans are mens....a bit baggy, not cut too low, and totally comfortable. i'm only 5'2 and just roll one big cuff on the bottom.
ReplyDeleteNot for me! Too tight in the ass and too loose in the front - FAIL ;p
ReplyDeleteRe-edited vsn of The Arrival now up and just .99c for May ONLY
There's a saggy crotch thing going on in these pants. 'Not my thing.
ReplyDeletei love emily's blog, and i love these pants...except for the extra crotch fabric :S
ReplyDeleteotherwise, i say yes to boyfriend pants, if you can find some without baggy crotches :) as someone mentions above, it kinda works standing (on emily, at least), but the minute you sit down it's just a hot mess.
I think they're so cute on the model, but I'm afraid with my body short curvy body they wouldn't look very good.
ReplyDeletehttp://adrianned-onedayatatime.blogspot.com/
oh TOTALLY DO! I am all about being comfortable. I haven't tried this but I have worn guy's cargo shorts. SO incredibly comfty and a little tomboyish but my hubby loves it!

Looks good but aren't 'boyfriend' style jeans in now? I wonder what differentiates men's pants from women's when you can find loads of boyfriend cut pants that still tailor to a woman's body. Hmph - anywho, just a thought!
ReplyDeleteWhile I love the look above, I think it's a lot more flattering on more body types to do the men's look with actual women's pieces. That being said, if it works, go for it!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea, but in reality, as everyone has said, they are so uncomfortable! I'm also only 5'4" and do have hips, so it's frustrating if that is your body type. I love the look of a tucked in shirt to nice flat front trousers though. Just wish I could pull it off! And yes, the crotch is the reason they're so uncomfortable!
ReplyDeletei would but the crotches are always too long. but i like the idea of boyfriend slouchy jeans!
ReplyDeleteid need to see how the back of these look. Men's pants can be very unflattering there
ReplyDeleteI love Emily's blog and most of her OOTD's, but no this one. Ditto on the nether regions. The crotch is way too baggy.
ReplyDeleteafter seeing this, DUH! of COURSE I owuld wear them... I recently purchased boyfriend shorts, and was a little sad when my hubby could fit into them :( Nevertheless, I love the style- casual, relaxed, effortless...whoever decided tight skinny pants was in should be shot! :)
ReplyDeleteI would if I wore trousers. I've sworn off them completely cos they make me look so odd. But I do love the boyfriend jeans / pants look.
ReplyDeleteOnly doable if you have a slim frame and the pants are cut well. I have wide hips, so I don't think men's pants would flatter very well...
ReplyDeletei would have never have guessed they were from the mens section.
ReplyDeleteshe looks amazing. i absolutely love the outfit and i want to wear it!
www.wotsworthwhile.blogspot.com
They looks kinda like mom jeans with that big crotch area. not for me!
ReplyDeleteI have on a pair right now! I love 'em! Although I'm pretty sure my manfriend is not as big of a fan as I.
ReplyDeleteShe looks great ... but soooooo many things could go wrong, it has to be just so. So I say: proceed w. caution.
ReplyDeleteYou know I've been thinking about this lately, because it has always annoyed me that women's trousers don't come in waist/length sizes like men's do. I think Emily just gave me the guts to go for it and take a peek at the men's department, she looks fabulous in hers!! Definite do!
ReplyDeleteboyfriend jeans are tricky to pull off. i'm working a pair about a size too big from Joe Fresh (big Canadian clothier) and i roll the cuffs up and roll the waist down. This eliminates the saggy crotch part. I also try to wear longer shirts with the jeans.
ReplyDeleteA total DON'T. Even with her model-y body and great style, that saggy crotch is very unfortunate. Imagine how the rest of us would look?
ReplyDeleteI don't get why she did that. They do make khakis for women. Same look, better fit.
Absolute do.
ReplyDeleteI do it all the time.
if i knew that rockin' a pair would mean i would look as positively adorable in them as miss emily does, then yes ... a total and complete do. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope this doesn't sound too mean, but they just look really diaper-y in the crotch area. I don't think that is flattering at all. She is beautiful and has a great body, but I think the pants look pretty unflattering. Better to get the "boyfriend" style that is actually made for women and proportioned correctly!
ReplyDeletei totally would. Emily rocked them.
ReplyDeleteI would except my boyfriend hates the look! So on days I don't see him? ;)
ReplyDeletewww.nydontleaveme.com
This looks great on this girl but honestly this is not a look for all. And also the pants look super cozy but the shoes kill the comfort factor for me.
ReplyDeleteIf I looked at cute as Emily, it would be a definite do!
ReplyDeleteIf I looked exactly like her! I will definetely use men pants!
ReplyDeleteshe looks very pretty!
LOVE this look. And she would look even cuter riding a bike in it! :)
ReplyDeleteyes, I would. If I could make them look as hott as those then I would.
ReplyDeleteI think it takes a certain swagger in a gal to get away with wearing mens' pants. Doubt I have that sort of schwing in my swagger to get away with it.
ReplyDeleteDi
I think Emily can pull them off (love her blog!) but I think I like the girl version better. It's just too baggy at the top for me:)
ReplyDeletei wear it and i love your and Emilyblog..so cute!
ReplyDeletei do. i already buy 'boyfriend' cut jeans, so it only makes sense to buy the men's pants. it's not because of height (5'8" which isn't THAT tall). it's because my thighs are thunderous, not little sticks, and i have no waist....actually, i am built more like a guy (sigh).
ReplyDeleteSUPER DO! she looks so chic in those pants. I'm scared I can't pull them off though. I have large calves so boyfriend pants/jeans end up looking bulky on my legs.
ReplyDeleteA man's perspective... Oh-my-gumbo **drops dead**
ReplyDeleteDo! I am quite curvy when it comes to hip/waist proportions, and most of the time, men's pants fit better than women's, even in the crotch area. Men's pants often hit higher at the waist, and are easier to take in if needed. And I'm about 5'5", and they don't make me look bulky or short! You just have to find the right ones!
ReplyDeleteI do not have the body type to pull off such a look without looking like a frump, but they definitely work on her. I think it's a look for the taller, more slender builds as opposed to the athletic, thicker legged girls like me.
ReplyDeleteava
I love it !

Do. And you don't have to have a specific body type or height to pull it off. There are so many ways to do it. I've seen so many cute ways on all different kinds of women.
ReplyDeleteI used to wear my brother's carpenter pants in the spring and summer with a feminine white blouse. The baggy, relaxed fit is perfect for San Diego beach weather :)
DO DO DO!
ReplyDeletei recently wore them in a post. LOVE them.
http://alwaysamrsforeverakidd.blogspot.com
They're cute on her legs, but the crotch area puckers weirdly and I doubt they're very flattering from behind... Men and ladies just aren't built the same!
ReplyDeleteEmily needs to buy the womens version.
ReplyDeleteA definite do! I love this look! Checked out the female version of the pants, but love this version waaaaay more!
ReplyDeleteDo. For sure.
ReplyDeleteDON'T. There is too much crotch going on.
ReplyDeleteI think that when a woman dresses to kill it's typically to kill a guy. She's HOTT in those khaki baggies with too much crotch. I won't say that every woman would agree, certainly not for themselves if they don't like that look, but for a guy, there's something VERY sexy about this look. Plus girl-boys are extra hot anyway, lol! (shhh)
ReplyDeleteno
ReplyDeleteFunny, I was actually thinking men's pants would work for my body type, which, as you both know, is curvy with a side of curves. But according to these commenters, it sounds like I'm way off?! Em looks awesome though. You should def do this, too. I could so see you rocking this look with some red lips!
ReplyDeleteI think Emily looks super cute in her pants-from-the-men's-section...I just don't think I could pull off this look. She could probably pull off just about anything, though. So, do for her, but maybe a don't for lots of other people.
ReplyDeleteMen's pants are not tailored for a woman's body, hence the baggy crotch part in the front (excuse my language I couldn't think of anything technical).
ReplyDeleteI'd rather wear womens pants with a menswear feel, that way I'll know they'll fit correctly but I can still achieve. I mean, we have parts that mens clothing can't accommodate properly unless the pieces aren't fitted.
I think she wears them well and they look quite chic (despite being a bit long in the crotch). But I really wouldn't really describe them as baggy. They don't really look like men's pants at all. I've seen women's pants look more baggy, relaxed and masculine than this. So is it okay to wear men's pants? Depends on the style of the men's pants in question and it depends on the woman's body shape. I personally would rather wear a man-style pant designed for a woman's body so the fit is more appropriate for my figure. Sorry for the rant! :)
ReplyDeleteI think they are a "do" if you're skinny. :)
ReplyDeleteI think a totally "do" for tall chicas!
ReplyDeleteNo...not even if your Emily. Sorry-they look like she's wearing mens pants that don't fit.
ReplyDeleteFor me even the womens pants are too baggy from the tights, so i guess mens pants even more - so I would say no for this look. And I think it looks too baggy in this photo too.. sorry! everyone luckily has their own taste and can wear anything they like :)
ReplyDeletea YES if they look right. Unfortunately these look too big in the crotch - sorry! they do. And i loooove Emily and her style. Love! But sometimes things that *feel* great don't look great. It doesn't mean you shouldn't wear those things.... It's just real life!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of short/cropped/baggy pants with heels. The shoes dress the outfit up and but the pants keep it casual. I think it's a good balance.
ReplyDeleteThey are too loose in the crotch...looks funny!
ReplyDeleteI loved this look on her but I've got to agree with some of the other commenters, the crotch does look a little funny. Which is why when they made boyfriend jeans/pants for women it was perfect! Loose in all the right areas and tight where we need it to be :) Emily could do no wrong in my book though so I still give her a major thumbs up.
ReplyDeleteDo if they look like this.
ReplyDeletelove this look! i was shocked as well when she wrote that she found them in the mens section. i sometimes try my bf's jeans on for that baggy bf jean style, but it never works just right. but these mens pants fit her like perfectly high waited trousers, she looks great! and the cutsie gap heels make the look!
ReplyDeleteMiyan
www.miyan-overseas.blogspot.com
I don't love this look. I don't think it highlights the beautiful parts, instead it highlights the not-so-beautiful parts. But then again when you're pretty like the model is anything goes.
ReplyDeletewww.heartstop.blogpost.com
Crotch is too baggy and low. I'd prefer the women's any day.
ReplyDeleteLove! It's all about body type and styling. Her simple yet feminine pieces make this a big DO! Going online to find the pants now... ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the boyfriend jeans but I'm more in love with the mariniére she's wearing!!! I just recently did a special on la mariniére in my blog.
ReplyDeletewww.stylebyred.blogspot.com
I'm pretty sure she could wear anything and it would look great & hip. I think I'll stay in the women's section. Whatever man could wear those pants she has on should probably be shopping in the women's section!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan.
ReplyDeleteYES!!!! just need to find a pair that fall perfectly over my ample bootie and hips! love this look tho.
ReplyDeletelove it :)
ReplyDeletepinklemonincrystal.blogspot.com
I love the length and the cut in the legs of men's pants, but like so many have already said, the waist and hips and crotch are a bit of and issue
ReplyDeletewindeater.blogspot.com
I think they're cute on teeny tiny girls like Emily, but I don't know how much justice they'd do for girls with curves... I have a booty and I just don't think boyfriend pants would work for me.
ReplyDeleteDo all the way! But again, I'm extremely tall and they just work!
ReplyDeleteOnly if you are very thin and tall-they would look downright frumpy on me. I wore this style for most of the 90's...but even on my skinny teen self they were less than flattering.
ReplyDeleteCan't stand the crotch. She's adorable...but I still can't stand the crotch...lol.
ReplyDeleteHOT SHOES!
Love the look on you!
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE boyfriend jeans! They're so comfy, and look great on some body types. I don't think they're really the best look for me, personally, but I wear them anyway ;)
ReplyDeleteI definitely think it's a do, as long as it looks right. I love how Emily wore them, only thing I wish she added a little skinny belt to her outfit. I feel it would've broken up how long the pelvic area looks. Maybe a fun yellow one perhaps? :)
ReplyDeleteI am glad to read the post but some difficulties are behind them which creates negative impact on it I hope it will be more advanced in the future. Bubble hash bags and pollen presses
ReplyDeleteWell . . . she pulled it off nicely. Agreed that, if you're 5'3" it's not going to go as well, heels or no heels. For some reason, boyfriend jeans/baggy jeans in general remind me of painting class.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this style.
ReplyDeleteI have a pair I bought in the women's section though...Did an outfit post in them the other day: http://www.bobbylicious.co.za/2011/04/what-bobby-wore-to-breakfast.html
love them! even though i'm not so thin, i'm lucky because i'm tall so they look ok!

Not flattering
ReplyDeletePerfectly imperfect!
ReplyDeletethose are adorable! i love that!
ReplyDeleteDo! I used to borrow/steal my little brother's cargo shorts all the time. They really worked with my little teenage figure, and I looked fashion-forward since bermuda shorts were not popular for women at the time. I also love men's blazers on women - although, it has to be a fitted blazer that isn't too big.
ReplyDeleteit’s a very attractive look and works great I think these are very nice what a great idea. Good job! And these photos are super stunning! Wow! It’s a great.

Trends don't flatter all body types. Even Katie Holmes who started this trend doesn'r quite look good in it.
ReplyDeleteConduct! That i used to borrow/steal my personal little brother's packages drawers at all times. They really caused my own little young figure, and I searched fashion-forward considering bermuda underdrawers wasn't well-known for ladies during the time. I should say also really like men's blazers in women - even though, it must be described as a equipped sport jacket that is not too large.

ReplyDeleteI like them a lot especially paired with the heels, but I think I'd go with the women's version to avoid the bagginess in the crotch region...
ReplyDeleteThe boyfriend pants is a hot spring trend for 2009.
ReplyDeleteThey're so relaxed and baggy, but I love how she rolled them up and wore heels.
