Alex and I are giving our bedroom a little makeover, and we've been looking for artwork to go over our bed. How calming and lovely is this ocean photograph? Laura Bell took it while on a ferry in Scotland, and the circular shape makes it feel like she's peeking out a porthole window. Beautiful, don't you think?

so pretty. i am in love with the ocean, i'm living by the atlantic now, and it's amazing....
ReplyDeleteThis would be awesome above a bed. I spend so much time lounging in my bedroom, this would be a lovely thing to see every day!
ReplyDeleteKisses!

I'm not a huge fan of the circular crop. I think it would have been more powerful without it, but that's just moi. :)

very relaxing indeed! I love the colors!
ReplyDeleteIts perfect for a bedroom as it gives this calming and relaxing vibe. I totally think you should go for it! Kisses
ReplyDeleteLOVE this.
ReplyDeletei know, diana, and we're both insomniacs! maybe it will help :)
ReplyDeleteYet another example of simplicity as perfection. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove this- I was just looking at this on 20x200 last night! I just found your blog, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love this. The fog makes it feel so calm. I'm from Rhode Island, so the ocean has always been something close to my heart.

Love it! It reminds me of looking out a Ship's window. Would you want to frame it with a round frame, or do you think in an instance like this a rectangular one would be better (it has me stumped!)?
ReplyDeleteBecca
Agree! One of my favorite prints I've seen was of a dock just extending into an endless tropical ocean. I so wanted it but it's about $80,000!
ReplyDeleteSigh, money would be nice. :)
Playing It Cooley
becca, i was thinking the exact same thing! i'm not sure!
ReplyDeleteI would frame it in the square! I think it gives that feeling that you're looking out a window more that way.. which is the best part of the photo!
ReplyDeleteHave you heard of www.snazzycanvas.com ? It's a site that allows you to choose a designer to interpret one of your personal photographs and have it printed onto a framed canvas. It looks amazing! Thought it might be something cool and personalized for your new bedroom. :)
ReplyDeletegood point, liz! and thanks, marcia!
ReplyDeleteA circular picture frame was my first thought! Would really enhance the looking out a port window effect. I wasn't even sure that existed but I check and they do:

Looks a little cold and deep for me:)

I love ocean prints. We have 5 in our living room that my husband took (he's a photographer). Seeing waterscapes bring an enormous sense of calm.
ReplyDeleteThere are a plethora of amazing ocean prints on Etsy. I do love this little boat picture. My grandmother always adored the feeling of being in a boat. It makes me think of her seeing this picture. May just have to go buy the smallest one to add to my little nook.
Hope you have a great weekend, Joanna.
That's VERY calming! Are you looking for any original artwork? I paint "chunky" florals. Bright colors always look good in a bedroom. (: jennymarieart.etsy.com
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna! You should check out my husband's ocean photography, we would love to give you a print! Let us know if you are interested... http://www.stonecrandall.com/#939160/Surf

Oh my mum would love this! Her and my dad have a huge canvas pic of Mauritious in their bedroom because they went on honeymoon and renewed their vows there. So the pics always reminds them of that:) xox
ReplyDeleteThis would make me feel like I was on a cruise everyday of my life! I love it!

That photo is beautiful! We also spruced up our bedroom a few months ago and bought five of these:http://www.etsy.com/shop/drifted
ReplyDeletewhich are very ocean-like. we framed them in a white wood horizontal frame over our bed,
Simply lovely ;)
ReplyDeleteThis type of photo looks like you could do it yourself! And how much better could it be to know you have the photo linked to a memory.
ReplyDeletesuch a pretty print...i almost expected to see the waves start moving!
ReplyDeleteJo! i posted very same picture today! i can't believe :) my photo and this artwork on yours blog are so similar! look here: http://agatamelnykphotos.blogspot.com/ i hope you will like it too!
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful!! : )
ReplyDeleteI love living near the Pacific and this photo is beautiful! For me, though, I feel a little claustrophobic with the circular frame, as I imagine I would if I were looking through a porthole. I want water as far as the eye can see!

Wow, it really is just like looking out of a porthole. Very calming - unless you get seasick!
ReplyDeletethe tension between the ocean (something so vast) and the size of the print (very edited) is interesting. definitely eye-catching, whether you like the print or not!
ReplyDeletei have to say i think it should be a photo of the caribbean ocean, so it's turquoise! call me spoiled but that's the way it looks when i look out my window:)
ReplyDeletei do like the roundness though!
really love this...so serene!
ReplyDeleteIt really does remind me of a poarthole. I had a porthole on the cruise I went on, and the print would be perfect. It reminds me of looking at the ocean, and those precious moments.
ReplyDeleteMy Heart Blogged
My friend out in LA just started Artist Spot - i think it's really similar to 20x200. great way for new artists to be discovered and great way to decorate an empty wall!

That's really lovely. I also like that bird photo you have above your bed now. But change is good, too. :)
ReplyDeleteVery calming. I was enjoying a moment until the oven alarm just went off.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this. It's so hard to pick something that goes above your bed, it needs to be so soothing I think. This does a great job, I feel like you would wake up relaxed every day.
ReplyDeleteso simple yet would make a huge statement in any room. love! we're changing up our bedroom a little too but haven't even thought about the walls. started out with new bedding and it's made a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteit's beautiful! i am totally in love with any photo of the horizon - its oddly calming. there's something really wonderful about nothingness :)
ReplyDeleteI love photographs of the ocean and the sky in bedrooms. It's so calming and tranquil. Have you ever tried listening to a recording of the waves while you're falling asleep? It sounds cheesy but it really helps!

I love this -- the circle makes it feel so fresh. We also went for ocean photography in our bedroom. It's so relaxing and pretty.
ReplyDeletei have been looking for art like this too, i wanted water..and especially waves..many great choices out there when just googling water images ...these colors mimic my grey and white michael kors giraffe print coverlet well though.... the other photos in my bedroom are of the santana album with a black chest and white dove..i like this a lot! the porthole gives a wonderful adventurous feel. ahoy!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the circular shape - what a fresh take.
ReplyDeletewe think alike! i chose these two for above my bed!
