Have a smoochy weekend.

My darlings! What are you up to this weekend? This week, Alex and I went to the insane play Sleep No More. It felt almost like a haunted house: Everyone in the audience had to wear white masks, and you wander silently around a four-story warehouse in Chelsea. The whole warehouse is designed to look like the setting of Macbeth, and it's incredibly elaborate--from children's bedrooms to a detective's office to a moonlit graveyard. You go up twisting staircases, open creaky doors, explore empty rooms, open drawers and rifle through papers, feel your way down dark hallways...it's really spooky! I made Alex hold my hand the whole time and only freaked out once when there was a strobe light. Now and again, actors will come into the room, and everyone will watch them, until they dart off again. It was, as Alex would say, "a trip." (New Yorkers, you can read more here if you want to go!) Anyway, hope you have a fun weekend, and here are a few great posts from around the web...

  12. Isn't "Sleep No More" the CRAZIEST thing?! I love that each person's experience is totally unique - for example, one of my friends was pulled into a closet with Banquo who delivered his monologue 3 inches from her face, and another friend spent nearly 20 minutes exploring the "forest" as they had lined it with hundreds of evergreen trees. I don't know Hitchcock as well, but I understand that there are also elements of Hitchcock thrown in - all in all, I think Alex said it well when he said, "it's a trip!"

  31. Oh, god, I ADORED Sleep No More!
I saw it about the day before Halloween in an old school in Boston last year - perhaps one of my favourite performances I've ever seen!
I ended up playing some variation of poker with someone and helping Lady Macbeth into a sheet and out of her bath...

  38. I love the pregnancy ideas!

Since my parents already have 9 grandchildren, my idea for when I get pregnant is to make ugly t-shirts for the Grandpas that say "My favorite grandkid is a Cooley"! I think that should give enough of a hint. :)

Not sure if you're heard about it, but there's a wonderful website called Tin Eye that allows you to source what would otherwise be unknown photo credits. http://www.tineye.com/

  62. i also saw sleep no more in boston, i was scared but once i figured out that no one was going to jump out of a closet, i relaxed and started poking around in ALL of the drawers. but, when we first were lead into the old school, we were taken up an elevator, went one floor, and the host pushed one girl out and shut the doors behind her! i think i would've wet my pants if i didn't have my husband's hand to squeeze. i loved that there were some old rooms that they made hot and humid with steam, others smelled like moth balls, it was truly an all-sensory experience. there was a room lined with 6 bathtubs, reminds you of some horror/insane asylum scene, and one of the tubs had a live eel swimming around in it! ah, just remembering it makes me happy, i'll try to make a trip down to ny just to see it again in another context!

  63. Love the polka dot skirt, but to be honest... that wedding dress is most likely the ugliest thing I have ever seen. It does nothing for a woman's figure... Just my two cents.
