How breathtakingly gorgeous are these embroidered book covers by Jillian Tamaki? She made them for Penguin Books, and rumor has it that they'll be available this fall. SO beautiful. (I'm sure Jane Austen would have wholeheartedly approved. I love Emma's little freckles!)P.S. More + amazing + book covers.

ReplyDeleteI'm laughing because a similar post is in my drafts file right now, haha! I'm in love with these as well -- Penguin has really knocked cover art out of the ballpark in the past couple of years. Good marketing (and icing on the cake for booklovers)!

ReplyDeleteIn an age when people are dumping their hardcover books for Kindles and iPads, it's lovely to see such painstakingly beautiful work for book covers. I especially love the Black Beauty cover. Lush.

the secret garden cover makes me want to read it again RIGHT NOW! gorgeous.
ReplyDeletei like the freckles on emma too <3
I had seen these before, but I didn't know that they were embroidered! Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother taught me to embroider when I was seven. She would also have us thread -tons- of needles with the colors she would need and pin the strands to towels so she could do her sewing without having to stop. I really appreciate people who have this skill!
ReplyDeleteBarnes and Noble have a collection of books with revamped covers as well. Books like HG Wells stories and Alice in Wonderland- so pretty!
I lOVE LOVE LOVE these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteomg, how did i forget about black beauty? oh, childhood.... sigh.

ReplyDeleteThese are so adorable! I love the Black Beauty cover! Especially because that was my favourite book/movie growing up.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, they would be perfect for framing in a child's room.
ReplyDeleteOoo! I can't comment for Emersonmade because the comments are full at 5k. But I did check out their site, and (even though this comment won't count) I love their clutches (especially the dandy zebra one, oooo but the pink and yellow ones are so cheerful). Honestly thought, what's not to like. Dresses, the stripey bag and scarf---so much to love. Thanks for pointing them out!
ReplyDeleteswoooon! those book covers are beautiful! i wish they would come out earlier though
ReplyDeleteoh, I couldn't comment on the emersonmade post either! Are you accepting more than 5k comments? (and that's crazy - 5k! testament to yours and emersonmades popularity, i think!). I didn't even have to look at the site to say that i love all of it, but esp. the bluebell jeans, the tweed blazer, the silk tie shirts, and the spring topper coat. I would buy the whole line, if I could afford it!
ReplyDeleteI couldnt comment on emerson either:( But have to say I loooove their polka dot skirt as well as their little trinkets. Wish I had a pet duck! hope this comment can be counted!
ReplyDeleteMoni
same here. the comments are maxed out but i looove the tweed jacket. the navy&brass came in second place.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could feel it through my screen! hah! i love that it says penguin threads. very sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my I want these badly...

I'm actually the art and design intern with the Viking/Penguin imprints over at Penguin and got to see the actual embroidered pieces a couple of weeks ago. So breathtaking! I can't wait for the books to come out either...
These are truly stunning! The Secret Garden is one of my all-time favorites from girlhood. I'll have to mark my calendar now so I remember to get my very own copy in October!

ReplyDeleteFrom the descriptions I've read about these book covers, they are embossed, not actually embroidered, unfortunately.
