Do-it-yourself cloud artwork

Since Alex and I are giving our bedroom a makeover, we've been thinking about new artwork. Well, this is genius: Amber took her a snapshot of clouds and then blew it up on glossy poster paper for $30. Then she framed it in an IKEA Ribba frame. The whole project cost less than $60, and it's gorgeous! Double thumbs up! I'm super inspired.

Not only is the photograph beautiful - but I love how elements of it are echoed in the blue and white Ikat pillows and the sheep skin throws.

I LOVE that idea! I wish my camera was good enough that I could blow the pictures up that large! I'd love to have art in my house and be able to tell people, "Yup, I took that picture!" =)

I love love love this idea! Making your real life into art makes it so much more meaningful. I think it would remind me to appreciate the little things in life that often go overlooked.

I love taking pictures of the sky! So serene. :) Also, I think that is a great decorating idea-especially when it is inexpensive. That's always a plus!

What a simple but gorgeous idea! Love it! Some wonderful inspiration for a bright and airy room!
BOOKMARKING! For my nursery.
So simple and pretty! and it makes the room look like day time all the time!
I don't know where my head is...I think I just left my comment for this post on a completely random post that I now can't find. Sheesh. What I said there was, I can't wait to do this myself after being inspired when I first saw the project on LGN. I am keeping my DSLR with me at all times to capture a worthy subject!
Beautiful and relaxing!!!!!!
Sometimes all you need is the simple things to bring a room together.

it almost looks like you're gazing out a window at a gorgeous summer sky! love it.
OHhh, I like it! I'm all about the apartment/house DIY. I wanted some sort of solar system theme in my hallway or bedroom, and it's so easy to find high resolution photos on the web, and have them re-printed for cheap. Then, just find a frame! Same thing with the clouds, great idea... and then when people compliment it, you can say "oh, yeah, we did that ourselves!" Or, "I did it myself!" haha
Love the light fixture over the dining table!
OH my goodness. That is beautiful. Thanks for the idea!!!

I am in the process of redecorating my apartment and this is one of the things that I've been thinking about doing as well. :)
I am so doing this...this weekend, as soon as it's sunny again. Thanks.
Great Idea!

that light fixture is phenomenal
That is really pretty, and would be perfect to look at on gloomy days too.

What a great idea - it's like getting an extra window in your room AND it's always a great view (even on the rainy days)!
Almost forgot! I just posted about posters (redundant, much?) the other day and this terrific artist Debbie Carlos has a cloud poster. Worth a look...http://me-machine.blogspot.com/2011/03/in-love.html
Beautiful! It looks so light and soft.

This is brilliant! I have a wall with a gallery style arrangement of artwork & photos, and I have one huge frame that's been empty forever since I haven't decided what to put in it. This cloud artwork just gave me a bunch of new & exciting ideas :) Thank you!
I love it! I definitely want to do something similar now. :]
Love your ideas! So beautiful yet inexpensive.
Homeowner Insurance
Great idea! I love personalized art work. I have a friend who went around and took pictures of the street signs for every street she lives on. Then she blew them up to 8x10 and framed them in rows on a blank wall. It looked so nice and personalized.
I love how bright and simple the cloud artwork is! When it's rainy and gloomy outside you can still see clear blue skies!
the rug is gorgeous!
dear Joanna, i just want to say you are wonderful! you make me smile every day:)
Yah, Ikea need more money. Not enough decent frames kickin about as it is? What about recycling?
This is a petty thing to get angry about, but you have lots of followers... Promote sustainability!

While we're at it, this is not new. As long as it inspires you I guess...
Just realised you only want nice comments... Get your shit together!
Do you put these thoughts up here and assume no one will ever criticise? Good way to develop as a person right?
That is all.
Very nice!!
We should all use our own photography to decorate our homes.... They say who we really are.

I love that idea! Do you know of any companies that will print extra extra large? I love it!
I was going to blow up a cloud shot for my living room. I never get bored photographing and staring at them . . .
This is genius!
how absolutely beautiful! Just the other day, I was thinking of how a little bit more bright blue would behoove our living room-- definitely going to do this now! Might actually splurge on a canvas print. Thank you for sharing, Jo (as always) : )
This is amazing! such GOOD IDEA!
You've inspired me but there is not one cloud in the sky today, it's the most gorgeous day we have had all year ! Maybe tomorrow.......
Yes, I am feeling better today. Try to reuse old frames is all I'm sayin'.
If your camera doesn't have a good enough resolution, try photoshop it with a grainy filter - THis will give the effect of having been taken with an analog camera. And remember, people won't be looking at it up close anyway, it will look fine from five feet away.
And I don't wanna hear anyone complaining about not having any clouds in the sky! Winter is coming too soon here, I'm jealous!
Love this idea! I have a huge art wall in my apartment that I'm always changing around... this may have to be my next project!
LOVE IT! one of my friends took a beautiful photo of the clouds above the field we got married in last july. i'm gonna do just this and hang it over our bed!
This is a fantastic idea!! I have one empty wall that has tormented me for years and this is the perfect solution. Already know what photo I'm going to use - a favorite from Piemonte that has the bluest sky and clouds that are so puffy they look fake.
