My dears, what are you up to this weekend? My dad is coming to visit, and I'm soooo excited to hang out with him. He seems so debonaire that it feels odd to refer to him as "Grandpa," so we're trying to think of an alternative name for Toby to call him. What did you call your grandpa? Anyway, have a wonderful weekend, and here are a few fun links from around the web...Ha, well played, Domino.
Kate surprises her sister with a trip to Paris; here's her cute reaction.

Blue wish list.
Inspired by Harvey Faircloth's inspiration wall.
Ann Taylor, is that you?
Hang art without poking holes in it.
A chewing gum artist, of all things.

Have a good one! xoxo

LOVED THE WONDER YEARS!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRemember watching "The Wonder Years"? Such fun. Have a great weekend with "Grandpa"!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! My grandfather apparently really didn't want to be called Grandpa, so he tried to get all of the grandkids to call him Daddy Baxter, which turned into Dado. It's the perfect name for him :)
ReplyDeleteThe chewing gum artist is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI always called (and still do) my Grandpa a silly version of his first name.
ReplyDeleteIn Persian, Baba-bozorg means "big father" so our little one will call my Dad Baba for short :)
Toby could always call your dad Gramps, I think it's actually a cute, and somewhat hip (maybe?) version of Grandpa!
And oh, how I loved the Wonder Years. Do you remember the rumor that Paul was Marilyn Manson? haha!
aura, WHAT?! seriously!?!
ReplyDeleteMy Littlest Sis called my Grandparents Bompa and Bompa and it made us smile every time!
ReplyDeleteAfter living in Spain for 5 months, I wouldn't trust that beer statistic! I'm being sarcastic, sort of. and p.s. I called my grandpas D-Daddy and Grandad.
ReplyDeleteoh and my step grandpa goes by Boppa.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to have your dad come visit! I'm not really doing anything special, there's a party on tomorrow night... we'll see how that goes.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday! x
One of my grandfathers was Grandpa, and the other was Papa. My fiance's grandfather was nicknamed Bud, so his grandkids called him Grandbud, which I think is pretty cute.
ReplyDeleteMy family is German, so we call my grandparents Oma (grandma) and Opa (grandpa). My Oma always said she hated 'grandma' because it made her feel old.
ReplyDeleteMy kids call me dad Poppy, which I love.
ReplyDeleteMy younger cousins always called our Grandpa Baboo (pronounced Bah-boo). Very cute. I called my other grandpa "Granddaddy," which I also really like.
ReplyDeletepoppy is so cute!
ReplyDeleteWe called my grandfather Pop--and he was a very suave gentleman himself!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was born my moms dad said he wasn't old enough to be a grandpa so we called him Mr. Bill (his name was William). It fit perfectly for him!
ReplyDeleteOh! And my boyfriend surprised me with a trip to Paris :) Except he waited to tell me at the airport in Montreal, where I thought we were spending Thanksgiving. I can't imagine my sister surprising me - that IS amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy little Hugo was slow at starting to talk (bilingual Eng/Jap)and could not say Grandma/Grandpa....but could say the easier Japanese version for my hubby's folks Baba/Gigi...which made me sad for my folks...So we chaged to Nana/Pop and Haven't looked back it only took a few days and my parents were soooooo stoked ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy cousin Ian and his wife just had a baby and they call my aunt and uncle, "Ima" and "Ipa" ( say it ee-ma.) It stands for "Ian's Ma" and "Ian's Pa" which I thought was super cute.
ReplyDeletemy father in law is the same way. too hip to be a grandpa but he is such a sweet and darling man. My daughter calls him Dida (means grandpa in Croatian.and grandma is Baka. and her great grandparents were: Dedo (meant grandfather and Grandmother was Baba)
ReplyDeletere: Aura
interesting how in Persian, Baba is grandpa!
Joanna, keep us posted on what nickname Toby ends up calling your Dad.
I'm buying those photo hangers! They're so cute... and I'm decorating my office at home right now. Great find :-)
ReplyDeleteI call my grandpa daddy just because he's a young soul.
ReplyDeleteyour wonder years pic brought a smile to my face - love all the grampie nicknames, makes me think of my own, such a cool guy. x
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna :)
ReplyDeleteA cute and unique alternative to "Grandpa" is Taidy ( pronounced tie-dee). It's Welsh for grandfather. Thats where my dad is from.
Just an idea!
NO WAY, Ashlae!!! that is SO cute!!!
ReplyDeleteThought I was gonna get a taupey polish like the jacques OPI but NOW!!!! you've turned me way way onto the Nars Schiap for curing the winter blahs
ReplyDeletewow..cute photo from Wonder Years..that show was addicting! Have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nycstylelittlecannoli.com/
we always referred to my grandpa as papa. not too chic, but i always loved calling him that!
ReplyDeleteWe called our Grandpa "Pop-pop". We stopped once we were old enough to say Grandpa without much trouble.
ReplyDeletePapa was something we called one 'grandpa.'
ReplyDeleteI see someone got to Taidy before I did...but go Wales.:)
I have to add...my favorite person in the world - ever - was my Poppop & I still called him that way after I'd mastered 3 other languages:)
ReplyDeleteHe's always your Poppop (or whatever you call him). Always!
We call our grandpa "papa". Simple & sweet.
ReplyDeleteThe chewing gum artist blew my mind. Who would have ever thought?
ReplyDeleteHave a splendid weekend!
Katie
The Wonder Years was my FAVORITE! Ahhh, this post makes me want to dig up old episodes!
ReplyDeleteI heard the same rumour about Marilyn Manson.. perhaps google can shed some light on this? Haha
Have a wonderful weekend with your dad!
xo Nadia
i called my grandpa, granpa. but our grandaughter calls my husband pops and me, mimi. so it's mimi and pops.
ReplyDeletexo
janet
One of my girlfriends calls her grandfather "Doc," which I think is so cute. He feels too young to be called Grandpa :)
ReplyDeleteAh, the WONDER YEARS! What a fabulous show.
ReplyDeleteWhoa. Your Dad does seem super cool. How about Big G or G Money? ;)
ReplyDeleteMy niece calls my Dad (her Grandpa) Papa, which is kind of heart-melting.
p.s. Those tiny hangers are darling!
Hi Joanna!
ReplyDeleteWe called my Mother's father 'Dandy' – apparently, when my eldest cousin started talking he couldn't pronounce 'Grandad', so Dandy it was, and Dandy it stayed. It suited him perfectly, he was always quite the English gentleman ;-)
My Dad is Papa to my kids and my Mum is Mardi - which I love and we can't find the origin of! Her Auntie was Mardi to her grandkids.
ReplyDeleteI called my gandad appacha which just means dad or grandfather in an indian dialect. Good luck of your search :)
ReplyDeleteBright Green Laces
I hope you have a great weekend with your dad! :)

We chose the German Opa (my sister's husband is German & called my Grandma Oklahoma Oma). Anyway, we were living in Colombia, so my daughter changed it when she was really little to Opatio, more Spanish sounding, which became Opati. Long story, but your son will come up with his own version. Also have a friend whose dad was called Babe by his grandsons.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Think I'll drink a beer and shop for pretty swimsuits online :)
ReplyDeleteMy dad was supposed be Gramps, but Calvin couldn't manage the R sound, so it came out "Gump". My mom (Mamie) said, "We're keeping Gump." Best name imaginable. I recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI called my grandpa pop-pop. :)
ReplyDeleteWe called one of our grandfather's Boompa. My parents got it from a Jimmy Stewart movie - Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation.
ReplyDeleteThe other we called Paw Paw. I think it's a southern thing.
My husband called his grandfathers Dandy and Bum Bum.
My mom wil lbe the same way. She actually refuses to be called grandma anything. She wants to be like an aunt. Crazy woman! :)
ReplyDeleteMy grandmothers are Mamie and GG. My grandfather was Papa. My kids call my parents "Mam" and "Pap"
ReplyDeleteThe Wonder Years were great!
ReplyDeleteMy dad is called Poppy and mom Mia by the grandkids.
Being a big Arrested Development fan I swear that when I have kids my parents are going to be called Gangy and PopPop
ReplyDeletestay well,
allie
a beautiful ride
We always called my grandpa, "Papa," it just suited him. I can't picture calling him grandpa.
ReplyDeleteHello, good luck for me I was looking for this information for several months ago. Finally I got it all here. Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteYour dad sounds amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the blue wish list, and I also have to say about the Ann Taylor post – I went into ATL the other day when they were having a sale, 40% off everything, and scored big time. Lots of beautiful pieces in lovely fabrics and nice cuts. I'll be stopping by again to get some tops soon.
my kids call their grandfather "Papa". have fun!
ReplyDeleteI have three grandfathers and they go by grandpa or grampy. My three grandmas are all grandma or grammy. Finally, my great grandmothers are called GG M or GG F. Sadly my GG M just passed away this December. She was 95 and had a very good, long life.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes I do have a very large family. Ah, the beauty of being a child of divorce.
Amanda
Micah calls my parents Papa Eddie & Nana Lizzie because Grandma/Grandpa felt "to old" to them.
ReplyDeleteLove love loved the Wonder Years!!
xo
my dad is poppy and he loves it- and my boys sound adorable saying it...
ReplyDeleteI called my grandfathers Grandpa. But, my boys call my dad Glamps, and my husband's dad Papa
ReplyDeleteI've got a Poppy and a Granddad - heard of a Grandpapa (with emphasis on the pah-paaah) and thought it quite endearing...
ReplyDeleteAlthough I always love your roundups, what really caught my eye is that darling picture.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything cuter than Kevin Arnold and Winnie Cooper? I've had wonder years on my DVR lately and I love them!
My dad is Poppa, not that original but it sounds so cute when a little voice says it!
Aaahhh the wonder years.... just great!
ReplyDeleteP.S. My brother's girls called my dad, their grandfather, Pop-pop when they were little, and it's stuck. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to know a wee one whose grandparent's names were Lady Bird and Old Bob. They didn't want to be known as gram and gramps (or any such thing). And the earnest way that the wee one called out for Old Bob... well, it was cute enough that I remember it 25 years later!
ReplyDeletewe called my grandpa "poppy" on my dad's side and "opa" on my mom's side. :)
ReplyDeletea post i had last week had the same picture of the wonder years. my kevin arnold crush remains in tact. check it out: http://semiweeklyeats.blogspot.com/2011/01/im-thankful-that.html
ReplyDeleteHave I told you lately how much I love and look forward to your weekend roundups? xo Lola
ReplyDeleteYou should just make a call to all of your Southern readers. Lot's of different "Grandparent's names"
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend calls his "Pawpaw" (all southern and everything)
My niece called my dad Bee-ba for awhile and my nephew currently calls him Boppy.
I've also heard "Pops", "Preacher", "Lolo", "Doc", "Oompa", "Papa", and this one takes the cake: "Gonk Gonk".
Seriously.
I personally enjoy Gramps. Or you could just go with Bond ;)
My sons call my dad Papa. It's really cute, and my dad isn't a grandpa kind of guy, either. :)
ReplyDeletep.s. That Wonder Years picture! What memories. I don't remember the Paul/Marylin Manson rumor, but I do remember everyone thought the guy from Mr. Belvedere was Marylin Manson!
My grandfather was not unlike sweet Toby's. An old-fashioned man man's (and a ladies man ;), cultured, with a great sense of style, and always up for adventure.
ReplyDeleteHe told me to call him by his first name. My other grandparents liked it so much, they had me do the same!
Our little one calls her grandparents Nanna & Pa and Nannie & Poppie.
ReplyDeleteMy husband calls his grandpa Pumpa - its what he could say when he was little!
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletewe call our grandparents grand buddy and grand martha :)
ReplyDeleteMy mom is having the same problem; she doesn't want to be called Grandma. Fortunately she has some time to think about it. I used to have 'Grandpa' and 'Grandpa Jack', but I vote for Papa, that sounds so sweet.
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather insists on being called only "G", because it allows him to "maintain (his) mystery". Worth a shot and easy to say for Toby ;)
ReplyDeleteWhen my older sister was born (she was the first grandchild on both sides of the fam), my mom's mother decided she didn't want to go by traditional grandparent names. Therefore, she took it upon herself to come up with names for her and my grandfather. So she settled for 'mamoo' and 'papoo'...i love it! it is so fitting of the both of them & unique:)
ReplyDeleteGranddaddy and Poppy.
ReplyDeleteWe always call our grandparents by their first name but add grandpa or grandma first i.e. Grandpa Rudy! But last names are reserved for great-grandparents i.e. Grandma Garcia :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out and follow my blog!
ReplyDeletehttp://dailydoseofglitter.blogspot.com/
ahhh the wonder years!! i miss that show so much!
ReplyDeleteI called my grandpa, grandad.
ReplyDeleteBut his parents were called ma B and pa B. Because their last name was Brode and they didn't want to be called grandma and grandpa.
I think it's a cute alternative
One is Pop Pop, the other was Grandy, which I love.
ReplyDeleteMy little boy calls my Dad, Papa! Have a sweet weekend!
ReplyDeleteVanesza
I'm doing brunch with one of my best friends on Sunday morning to celebrate her baby bump! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend together. I know you will treasure your time together!
ReplyDeleteOh, and our boys call their Grandpa Opa. (German)
I call my grandpa 'Papa'. Always have, and always will!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Papa! I can imagine James Bond wanting to be called that.
ReplyDeleteI called my Mother's father, Grandaddy. I always loved that name for a grandfather. He was very distinguished as well. :)
ReplyDeleteMy parents are still pretty young and like to have fun but oh man, when my sister had my niece it was "babicka" and "deda" (in Czech) all the way. They embraced their grandparent-hood all the way and in their cool way, I just love it! Have fun with your dad and thank you for the links! What a great idea to hang art!
ReplyDeletePapa is what my girls call my dad .. and grosspapi to their Swiss grandfather.
ReplyDeleteKevin and Winnie! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI had two grandpas. They were Grandpa and Pop.
Have a wonderful weekend, Joanna.
I called my grandpa "Pops"
ReplyDeletethis photo makes me think of princess bride. :) i love the lipstick. and the art hanging clips are genius! i've had some friends reveal their babies that same way too, it's such a cute idea.
ReplyDeleteYou could call him afi (grandfather in Icelandic) seeing that he loves Iceland so much. You can listen to how it's pronounced here: http://translate.google.com/#is|en|afi
ReplyDeleteI think my "papa" is quite debonaire ;)
ReplyDeleteI called my dearest grandfather Big Daddy. Of course, I am originally from Texas. :)
ReplyDeleteI called my grandpa papa, which a lot of people call their dads.
ReplyDeleteMy sisters and I called our grandparents Papa and Mema, (long e, short a).
ReplyDeleteMy Dad insists my children call him Grandfather. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, it's kind of hard to translate from my mother tongue, but I guess that 'mate' would be the closest translation. It implies love and a very deep and strong friendship :)
ReplyDeletei called my grandfather poppa/pop/poppy. i just had a baby, and we call my dad "doc" because he's a dentist. but i also LOVE bubby, bibby and umpy.
ReplyDeleteWow it seems like Papa was a popular choice for Grandpa names! We all called my Papa, Papa because my oldest brother couldn't say Grandpa when he was tiny and could only manage to say Papa. So it kinda stuck for all of us. =]
ReplyDeleteThis weekend my son takes part in a fencing competition!
ReplyDeleteOn Saturday night, I have a birthday party just for girl friends!
In Catalan, we call grandparents iaio and iaia :-)
these are so great! the beautiful swimming suits, the chewing gum artist, the nautical outfits... i hope you have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteahhh!!! love this...love the wonder years :). And I'm obsessed with those little photo hangers. I might have to order some for myself! have fun with your dad! sounds like a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteWe called my grandfathers Pop Pop, Grandad and Popsie. My favorite one I have ever heard is Walrus!
ReplyDeleteMy grandpa is Papa and my husband's grandpa is Grandfather.
ReplyDeletemy nieces and nephews called my dad "gramps!" my son calls his other grandpa, "grandpa" or "papa"
ReplyDeleteThe Wonder Years. My favorite show ever.
ReplyDeleteMy son calls his paternal grandfather Pop Pop, something he came up with on his own and my parents Nan (my mom's first name is Jan) and Charlie, which was my great grandfathers name.
I called my grandfather "GF" a shortened version of the German word for Grandfather: "Grosvater"
ReplyDeleteI called my grandmother "Nanana" or "Nunnie", which is what came out when my mom tried to get me to pronounce "Grosmutter" as a two year old.
lesson: don't try to teach your two year old German
Our daughter says Angrad - her way of trying to say Granddad. So freaking cute.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna
ReplyDeleteMy dad is referred to by his granddaughters as Pops, his grandfather was also known as Pops. I thought it was just a British thing! From memory I *think* your dad is a Brit too so maybe it will work for him?
Let us know!
Nicola
PS Loving your blog!
My father-in-law wanted to be called Dadoo (or Dadu, nearly 4 years later and we're still at odds on how to spell it ;oP) as a nod to an old inside joke between him, his sons, and the Animaniacs. My father is "P-pop." My daughter started calling him that in a failed attempt to say Grand-pop & it's stuck.
ReplyDeleteI like "Poppy" too.
And I LOVE Fred Savage!
Some friends of mine did a similar baby gender thing, except they used cake! They had the ultrasound technician write on a card what the baby's gender was, then took the card to a cake shop and asked the cake decorators to color the inside of the cake pink if it's a girl and blue for a boy. Then they threw a huge party with their family and cut into the cake together. It was such a cute idea to let everyone else in on the fun!
ReplyDeleteP.S. When we have grandchildren, my husband and I want to be "Grump-pa" and "Groan-ma" or Grumps & Groany for short! ;oP We want to be all crotchety.
ReplyDeleteWe called my grandpa Bunka because my oldest brother couldnt say grandpa, so that is what came out. And then it just stuck!
ReplyDeletenonno,
ReplyDeletethat's the italian version of grandpa.
we call my mum nanna, normally it would be nonna, however, she loves it and the kids do as well, and she isn't just an ordinary grandma...
enjoy the weekend!
V
We called both of our grandfathers granddaddy, but I'm so in love with grandy...that's what my husband will be when he's a grandfather!! So endearing ~
ReplyDeletethe photo hangers are brilliant! i think i'll have to order some. and to dominos: touche.
ReplyDeleteLove "Les années coup de cœur". Great memories !!!!
ReplyDeletewe called my grandpa "rich"...his first name was richard...it was perfect. and we grew up calling my father "poppy" which seems to be an excellent grandpa name.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad is called G-man (Grandpa man and "government" man since he works for the govern't ;) When I was growing up, we called my Dad's parents Meemaw and Pop pop. They both grew up in KY and that's what they called their grandparents there :)
ReplyDeleteWait -- I don't get the Dominos joke! What am I missing?!
ReplyDeleteInstead of Grandpa, how about Papa?
ReplyDeletemy grandfathers were called popsy and gubby.
ReplyDeletethat photo of kevin and winnie....love.
pappi is a great name for grandpa. I don't like grandpa either. pappi is awesome. My dad is now a pappi.
ReplyDeleteTalk about a blast from the past! I loved the Wonder Years back in the day. Thanks for the links too. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI had a PAPIE :)
ReplyDeleteWe all called mine BARPAR- and he was the biggest legend ever! My brother invented it because he couldn't say grandpar and we all copied.
ReplyDeleteps i have always ♡'ed the wonder years.
My middle name is winston and my partners is kevin... Kevin&Winnie, talk about ment to be..
My father-in-law didn't want to be called Grandpa. After a little debate, we settled on Pop Pops.
ReplyDeleteGreat links! The baby playing virtual guitar is hilarious. As for the nicknames, my father-in-law - who is French and is called Francois - does not want to be called "papi" because that's what his dad was called. Since my dad is already "grandad", he looked for a new name and decided to go for "Frandad" (Francois + Grandad). I think it's cute!
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather on my dad's side we called bestefar (or bestefad) which both mean grandfather in Norwegian! Gotta love the scandinavians :)
ReplyDeletelove this post! sounds like a wonderful weekend for you, the hubby, and the cute toby:) i'm sure you'll all have a spectacular time with your dad! he seems hilarious&brilliant from that one post you linked to. :)
ReplyDeletei absolutely love the inspiration wall:)
happy weekend, jo!!
xoxoxoxo
This is such a lovely blog!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
colormenana.blogspot.com
We have cute little name for my grandparents, like my grandpa is called Paype (paypee) I'm not really sure why but that's what we always called him.
ReplyDeleteOne day when I have kids, they're going to call my mom Crabby and my dad Cranky hahahah :)
(I'm serious tho!)
Pops, Moppy, Poppa, Mr g - there you go - something might work for James Bond snr!
ReplyDeletePops, Moppy, Poppa, Mr g - there you go - something might work for James Bond snr!
ReplyDeletePapa. which is what my daughter now calls my Dad. sigh....
ReplyDeleteGrandad? Naah... too formalish and long! Maybe take a cue from other cultures? Naana (Not like Nanna... Naana is Grandad in Hindi and Naani is grandmom) or Baba. I love the suggestion of Dad Baba too! :)
ReplyDeleteLooooooooong sunny windy 3 hour walk along the coast near Edinburgh, lots of sand, sea, dunes and blue sky! :)
ReplyDeleteM
http://thingybobs.blogspot.com
What about his first name? Perfect winther here, kids all over playing. What a Sunday!
ReplyDeletei love your friday posts...filled with so many goodies!!! the back of the anthro suits sold me. i'm buying the first one today. love xo!
ReplyDeletegran-pee... not spelt that way... just say it!
ReplyDeleteWe called my mom's dad Papa.
ReplyDeleteI moved from NYC less than a month ago (for a job), but reading your blog makes me feel like I'm still a part of it. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the South, so I have a Grandaddy. But I recommend for anyone! It's also a cool band.
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents were Nanny and Poppy and Omi and Opa.
ReplyDeletethe gender thing is so cute! Someone I know did the same thing, only with a cake - the icing on the outside was chocolate and in between the layers was blue, for boy. and they cut it open at a special party they had just for that occasion, and found out with all their loved ones around them.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever find out my babies' genders, I'm doing it this way!
My Mother was 35 and my Dad was 37 when they became grandparents. My mom is swedish so she was called Mor Mor, (translates to Grandma) and my Dads name came from some jimmy stewart movie where he was called Boompa...they altered it a little and my dad became Boompie (So he sounded like a clown) I don't suggest this though. LOL
ReplyDeletelovely picture
ReplyDeleteLove the blog. Just found it. I'm excited to see all the great lifestyle articles from a fellow mom.
ReplyDeletemodamama.blogspot.com
Hello lovely,
ReplyDeleteI really like your blog. Your blog inspired me! great text and photos.
i follow your blog. please follow me mad. thanks and kisses:)
wish you a great time!

Poppop, Poppi, and Gampa are some of my favorites that my family doesn't use. My mom's side is Italian so we have Nonnu (affectionate version of Nonno for Grandpa...which I thought sounded pretty fancy!) used for my great-granddad, and Grandad for my non-italian grandfather on that side. Nonnie (or Nonna) for my grandmother.
ReplyDeleteHey Joanna,
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the statues at the Met and the blue wish list! Here's another artist who works with bubblegum, his name is Jason Kronenwald and all pieces are made out of chewed gum. Hope you like it! http://le-gallery.ca/artists/6/jason+kronenwald/
and here's my art, which you may also like :) http://le-gallery.ca/artists/5/genevieve+jodouin/
oh how i love the old school wonder years photo. that brings back such fond memories of growing up.
ReplyDeleteahhhh wonder years. and many of those links. so great.
ReplyDeletespeaking of links (quite the segway, no?), feel free to check out mine--i'm an amateur daily outfit poster...with dry humor. and am having a great time.

My niece uses Grandy, which I think is very sweet, and a friend uses Teddy.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteHope you had a nice weekend with your family.
take care
ks :)
We called my grandpa Papa. And my niece calls our dad Bear. So sweet to come up with a name that sums the man up more than grandpa.
ReplyDeleteThat picture is too funny, yesterday during the Jets/Steelers game I said "I bet Kevin Arnold wouldn't be happy", and everyone just looked at me, until I said you know, he always wore that Jets jacket. Haha.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, GREAT pic. It just transported me to 5th grade and now I feel warm and fuzzy inside :) Second, we called my grandfather "Dziadziu" (pronounced JaJu)... it's grandpa in Polish and now my own father is a Dziadziu to my niece and nephew! Hope you find a fun name for your Dad!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a WONDERFUL weekend with "Grandpa!" I called my paternal grandfather, Papa ("paw-paw") and my maternal grandfather, PopPop. (They were 2 extraordinary men and I miss them both terribly.)
ReplyDeleteWhat name did you decide?
Opa? Poppi? Nonno?
http://www.thenewparentsguide.com/grandparents-nicknames.htm
I call my grandpa Papa! And he's about the most wonderful man I know.
ReplyDeleteI totally tried on that pink lipstick this weekend at Sephora. Its so good.
ReplyDeleteMy cousins and I all called my grandfather "Grumps" or "Grumpsie"! I think my oldest cousin came up with it when she was little and it stuck.
ReplyDeleteI started calling my grandfather Boompa and it stuck!
ReplyDeletelate to add to the list, but unique nonetheless...
I am not a fan of Grandpa or Grandma, I hope my (whenever) little one comes up with a more creative name for my parents...
Love the baby-gender-revealing idea! We spent Christmas in Chicago with my husband's family and got everyone onesies that said, "the spoiling begins in 9 months." It was SO fun seeing their reaction!!
ReplyDeletei like "gramps" and "poppy"
ReplyDelete...when i'm a grandma, i want to be called "glammy" for glamorous grandma :)
I heard a report on NPR about baby boomers eschewing "Grandma" and "Grandpa" in favor of hipper monikers. My parents and in-laws are guilty too. My parents are "Bunny and Chuka" and my in laws have chosen the traditional Hebrew "Bubbe and Zayde". The aunts and uncles are on board too, we have a Cookie and a Zio!
ReplyDeleteOn my dad's - very German side - instead of a grandpa and grandma I have a Papa and Nana.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved the sound of those words.
what a perfect image. hope you had a fabulous weekend!
ReplyDeleteI called my grandfather Pop-Pop. Pop for short. I think it fit him well.
ReplyDeleteArhhh The wonder years. Smile on my face for the weekend! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWe called my gandpa on my dad's side Pa, and on my mum's side Grandad
ReplyDeletemy grandparents were papa and ganga and grandbobbie and granddaddy... my boyfriend calls his grandparents precious and big daddy - - and their names fit them absolutely perfectly :)
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna!
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather on my dad's side was Poppa. When my dad became a grandfather, it just didn't seem right to also call him Poppa. Instead, he just became "Chief". It suits him.
My mom is Nanu, which is a hilarious, bastardized version of the Italian "Nonna". We're not even Italian! :) You just gotta go with what sticks.
in french I call him Papou
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna,
ReplyDeleteI'm French and my father chose to be called by my baby girl : Papinou (usually grandpa is called Papi here).
She's only 5 months old... will see if she agrees !
My grandpa's name was Luis..so I grew up calling him Papá Luis. My parents were Mami and Papi so as a kid there was no confusion.
ReplyDeleteMy little boy calls both his Grandads 'Pappy' as he couldn't say anything more and it's stuck. We love it and so do they!
ReplyDeleteps. The Wonder Years rocks and I only discovered it at age 30 on repeat (I grew up without a tv)!
I was going to comment on the gender-finding-out method initially, but got distracted with all the grandparent names! As far as fetuses go, my friends did a similar thing, but had a cake baked with color-coded icing and had a party with local friends and far-away family on Skype. It was SO fun.
ReplyDeleteMy grandfathers are Papa and Pop. Does your dad have something he'd like to be called?
Skipper, he was the captain of the sailboat we raced and after hearing everyone on the boat call him that all of us little ones decided to follow suit. It's actually pretty cute because all of our friends - even my mom's friends - now call him that! We also have a Grandpoo and we call our grandma nana. And my mom is now going by GiGi instead of grandma because she didn't want to be left out of the fun!
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your post and you explain each and every point very well. Thanks for sharing this information. And I’ll love to read your next post too.
