Me too. I have a favourite black top that has black silky elbow patches. They are starting to wear thin, so this is great for me as I need to replace them.
Super funny! I am wearing one that I finished last night. Took a little while, but have gotten some compliments already on it. And WAY cheaper than ones I seen out there!
A cheap alternative that I'm loving: http://www.forever21.com/heritage1981/product.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&category_name=81sweaters&product_id=2055141963&showBACK=OK# Hopefully they'll restock the mustard and teal colors soon!
I've got a Fair Isle cardigan that I've loved and worn so much that the elbows are thinning, so this would be a great way to save it! But I'm also considering just felting some wool elbow patches onto it. Decisions, decisions...
would you believe i have the sharpest left elbow in the world? i go through shirts likeTHAT because of it. super-glad to see this tutorial on patching them! (although i wouldn't mind forgoing the diy and just picking up that sweater.)
funny, I was looking for a good sweater I could add these to. I've seen many colors around and it would be sooo easy to add them myself... you should give it a shot!
Just the thought of elbow patches bring back the somewhat musty, mothbally scent of my grandfather. I love elbow patches as much as I love grandpa glasses, plaids, Filson anything and fedoras, so glad they have all come around again.
I'm in love with this. Very scholarly... I'd feel like this one proff I had in college. He was the stereotypical professor, but he had a bunch of cats all named after philosophers: Augustine, Nietzche, Des Cartes and Liebniz.

I live in Manhattan with my husband and toddler son. Here's my portfolio website with magazine writing and branding work. For two years, I was the relationships blogger for Glamour Magazine, and now I blog for Conde Nast Traveler, as well. Follow me on Twitter or Pinterest. Please feel free to email me (hellojoannagoddard at gmail) if you'd like to advertise on Cup of Jo.
A Cup of Jo is a blog that I work on full-time to help support my family and young son. Without exception, A Cup of Jo's daily posts feature only products I genuinely recommend, and frequently use for myself and my family. Read on if you would like details about how I'm able to fund my work. A Cup of Jo features banner advertising, and my rates are set with small businesses in mind. Many of my sponsors come about organically, since they're brands or companies that I've always loved. A Cup of Jo sometimes includes affiliate links within certain posts, which means that we may make a small commission if a product is purchased through the blog. Of course, a reader would never pay more for a product; it's a branding relationship directly between the brand and me. Rarely (a few times a year), I allow sponsored posts, as long as they're a natural and positive fit with the blog; please be assured that I mark these posts clearly for my readers. As a final note, I sometimes feature my sponsors within round-ups, link lists or gift guides, but only when it's an organic fit and only when I would have included them even if they weren't sponsors; this editorial inclusion is never paid for. Please feel free to email me at hellojoannagoddard (at) gmail (dot) com if you have any questions at all. After more than five years of blogging, I feel truly connected with my readers, and my relationship with these incredible men and women is my top priority and, honestly, one of the great joys of my life. Thank you so much for visiting!

Adorable! And I like that there is a DIY for it, I might give it a try!
Just bought a green cashmire elbow patch sweather myself. Such a perfect add on to an otherwise dull but extremely comfortable sweater.
I remember my mom sewing patches onto my father's old sweaters in the 70's. I always loved this look.
I love a good elbow patch too!
And thanks for the how-to link!
Fabulous! :)

I love a good elbow patch too! As Melissa Blake said, very collegiate, and therefore perfect for fall!

I sewed elbow patches on a bunch of my husbands sweaters recently. He's got pointy elbows! But since he's a professor, I think they look extra great.
I LOVE leather patches. So fun.

Me too. I have a red sweater with elbow patches that my boyfriend and I refer to as "patches". Not very original, but it makes sense.
