Home inspiration: Trapeze!

My friend Sophie (of the amazing children's brand Oeuf) has a wooden trapeze in her Brooklyn living room. She used to go to trapeze school in California, and now she has taught her kids a bunch of tricks. "They do knee hangs and swing quite high," she says. "They think I look like a big whale, but I do it to amuse them. We thought they'd use it for five minutes and never again, but it's completely part of their daily life. We call them monkeys."

  2. How fun would that be as a child!! (or as an adult...) lol :)

  3. How cool is that! I wouldn't mind having one for myself now. :)

It reminds me of how I used to rollerskate around our New York loft. Now that we've moved into a place where our landlord lives directly below us, it's probably not such a great idea... although he does have a squealing talkative parrot and a hearing problem, so maybe...

  25. We've always had a rope swing in the barn to bounce around the hay loft in. Maybe we should add a trapeze... because there aren't enough ways for kids to be injured on a farm. Actually, I'm pretty sure I'd use it more anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wait... I just thought about it. People always ask me and my husband if we "roll in the hay" (Young Frankenstein style). If they see a trapeze up there they might really wonder what we're up to. Decisions, decisions.

  27. I love the idea of teaching your child your 'craft' :) My photographer friend gave their three year old a camera to take pictures, and then posted them onto Facebook. It is marvelous to see a talent of such a young child and beautiful to have a peek into how a 3 year old sees the world :)

  70. isn't that a sprinkler standpipe? if it is, i would rethink where you hang the trapeze. standpipes aren't supposed to bear any load other than their own and if it breaks, that's 30+gal/min of water on those beautiful floors.

Does anyone know who make that sideboard looking unit that the tv is on? I have an all white fireplace and living room like this (not as big) and I've been trying to find a similar walnut colored unit to put our tv on.

Joanna, do you know if this is vintage? If so, I guess I can stop looking online : ) Just found your blog and love it!
