I just bought myself a black cape with a hood. It's awesome but quite hard to pull off. Skinny black jeans and heels is the easiest way I think. Definitely don't want to stray into Batman territory.
Capes are so, so amazing. I got one at the end of last season and barely had time to wear it. I will be pulling it out at the first sign of a cold-spell! Love the first photo, by the way :)
I just thrifted a gorgeous dark grey cape that I'll be wearing all winter! It was a steal at $20, a good option if you don't want to drop too much dough on something "trendy"!
Love it! Where did you find the second photo on The Sartorialist? I've looked at his site for years and have never seen that one, that I remember at least. Can you post the link?
I totally love the first one...The buttons are so cool:)..I have a chocolate brown one that I got from my friend as a gift years ago and back then they were not in fashion ( but I wore it anyway...hahah)...I am so going to wear it this season too... Kisses,Joanna
I have a lovely old cape in a grey wool that I love and try to wear as much as possible, despite the fact that it is the most impractical thing I own! I need my hands! I tried to drive in it once – a complete disaster...
yes, ponchos! my friend Nora used to wear this amazing black poncho, and when i'd call her to ask her what she was up to, she's say, "just poncho-ing." :)
My friend bought a poncho at H&M over the weekend and while we laughed about it, I secretly wished I had snatched one up as well. Love the cape in the second picture!
I would probably try a cute one out! I'm sure to receive some interesting comments from my guys friends ;) A great look though and perfect for cooler weather!
I've been in love with the cape ever since Blair Waldorf wore hers on Gossip Girl, but I haven't gotten up the guts to buy my own yet. Maybe this year...
i would most def. wear one! but only pre-pregnancy - which will be in december. and since i am afraid a cape is not warm enough for the for the berlin-winter-days, i'll probably skip this trend :-(
I so want one! This reminds me of the 30 Rock episode where Oprah (Pam) says that one of her favorite things is sweater capes. I totally fell in love with them at that moment!
Of course. Why stop? I have a few but my favorite is a red one from Italy. (I hate wearing red dresses, but this or other accessories, yes if blue-red.)
Bought in emergency of cold snap. Totally not designer...I get more "where did you buy thats" for last 16 years.
The weird thing to me? Most women seem disappointed. That it's the equivalent of, I don't know, um...like high street chains in UK. We don't have them in DC now.
I'm sorry this materialism & excessive exuberance about $ has not abated. (Well, in blogland.)
how is it that super tiny models can wear this and look amazing but when i put one on i look like im swimming in fabric? of course...it doesn't stop me! ;)
yes, without a doubt... I just inherited a cape my grandmother made and I plan to wear it this fall... it's blue and orange plaid with satin lining so you'll see me coming.
Yes, I'd absolutely wear one! In fact, I DID wear one in a shoot for my husband this past winter. It's my mom's and she wouldn't let me steal it from her, because her best friend made it for a college fashion design class! So cool.
My grandmother was kind enough to give me a beautiful irish wool plaid cape purchased in Ireland back in the late 60s it's stunning, I have been wearing it for 2 yrs and have never gotten so many compliments on one article of clothing, people legitimately stop me on the street to ask about it. Last year a couple of the original navy buttons started to get loose from years or wear, so I went to MJ Trimming on 6th Ave and got some beautiful gold buttons, I cannot wait for it to get cold enough to wear it again!!
I have a fantastic green and blue plaid vintage cape that I sadly cannot wear as it is too slim through the shoulders. But I would totally wear it if I could!
I have one and wear it all the time. My students always laugh and say I REALLY look like a teacher when I wear it. It's amazing - perfect for season transitions.
Such a great look! I'm luck enough to have inherited 2 from the early 60's made of camel hair. They belonged to my mom, fortunatly she had amazing taste. I also inherited a set of Pringle of Scotland cashmere cardigans, and a killer aligator skin handbag.
I am totally into capes, I have a bright red one that kind of looks like little red riding hood.. it's so cute I adore wearing it. I want a wool plaid one...
i think these girls look gorgeous in their capes! almost enough to tempt me into wanting one although it's so cold around here i'd probably want sleeves, too :)
This is random, but I was perusing a Teen Vogue at the doctor's office today and that second photo was in there attached to a scandalous story about how those two teens tried to sneak into Fashion Week. Wild!
I bought a suede cape from a vintage shop in the 90s but never got up the nerve to wear it, can you believe that? Gawd I was shy in high school, never wanted to draw attention to myself but my sartorial aesthetic was already veering toward the dramatic. This time around, I'm NOT letting the inner wallflower keep me from wearing a cape! I found a beautiful leather-trimmed, fully lined wool plaid cape (by Pendleton, no less; Oregonian pride!) on etsy for $25. I've got to take in the shoulders, but by gum, I'm gonna do it and rock that cape!
The capes at Zara are quite pleasing to the eye, but I found them to be incredibly impractical in person. More than $100 for a thin cape with a small closure at the top that won't keep you warm at all? I was disappointed.
So I opted for this one from Asos in Khaki(http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Hooded-Military-Cape/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1162523&SearchQuery=capes&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=-1&sort=-1&clr=Black).
Joanna, you would look fantastic in a cape! Go for it... can't wait to see pictures!
I WOULD! I JUST POSTED ABOUT CAPES IN MY BLOG YESTERDAY! NOW I'M SURE THAT THEY ARE GOING TO BE IT! IT'S A SHAME IT'S STILL PRETTY WARM IN NY, BUT SOON...
I would like to own one, but I don't think they are very practical. I ride my bike a lot and I think the wind would go straight through it, so you'll be chilled every time there's just a wisp of wind. Or when you ride your bike.
Certain people are the hardest things to let go. But you are right, you cannot extract a person from an object. I find that being grateful for the time I had with the person brings joy and helps alleviate the grief.

in a heartbeat if it actually was going to get cold any time soon! This would be more Christmastime wear for me. Stupid Gulf Coast.
ReplyDeleteps. isn't that girl in the bottom picture someone famous?
ReplyDeleteyes! I have a vintage plaid wool cape that I simply *can't wait* to wear. I adore this trend :)

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I love capes ^_^ Maybe I'll finally make one this year :D
ReplyDeletelove it! oh so adorable
ReplyDeleteCapes can be very cool, and ponchos too. Personally, I'd rather wrap myself up in a serape blanket. But, a hood and button could make it better.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
I totally love the first one...The buttons are so cool:)..I have a chocolate brown one that I got from my friend as a gift years ago and back then they were not in fashion ( but I wore it anyway...hahah)...I am so going to wear it this season too...
ReplyDeleteKisses,Joanna
Ps: How about you, would you wear a cape?
Love this look! Particularly in tartan plaids. I agree - that girl looks famous. Almost like a cleaned up Fiona Apple?
ReplyDeleteBecca
Absolutely! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI have a lovely old cape in a grey wool that I love and try to wear as much as possible, despite the fact that it is the most impractical thing I own! I need my hands! I tried to drive in it once – a complete disaster...
ReplyDeleteYES! I would definitely wear one! They're so stylish! But only when fall would come with the sunshine as on the pictures ;)
ReplyDeleteyes, ponchos! my friend Nora used to wear this amazing black poncho, and when i'd call her to ask her what she was up to, she's say, "just poncho-ing." :)

ReplyDeleteI would totally wear one! throw it on with a pair of jeans and long sleeve T and you look totally chic with no effort! :)
ReplyDeletelooove!!! going to have go hunt for a cheap one!
ReplyDeleteI'm dying for a cape, but I'm afraid I'll look really conspicuous in one. I also feel conspicuous in sunglasses, so maybe it's just a me thing.
ReplyDeleteI so want one! This reminds me of the 30 Rock episode where Oprah (Pam) says that one of her favorite things is sweater capes. I totally fell in love with them at that moment!
ReplyDeleteOf course. Why stop? I have a few but my favorite is a red one from Italy. (I hate wearing red dresses, but this or other accessories, yes if blue-red.)

ReplyDeleteI should be clear--I wasn't criticizing cape wearers or Joanna:)
ReplyDeletehow is it that super tiny models can wear this and look amazing but when i put one on i look like im swimming in fabric? of course...it doesn't stop me! ;)
ReplyDeleteyes, without a doubt... I just inherited a cape my grandmother made and I plan to wear it this fall... it's blue and orange plaid with satin lining so you'll see me coming.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! That first one is gorgeous, I would love to run around in it all through the fall, and perhaps with long gloves even into the winter.
ReplyDeleteYes, they're soooo much fun to wear.

ReplyDeleteI have a wool poncho, it's itchy as hell, but I love that thing. If I cut some arm holes in the front can I call it a cape?
ReplyDeleteI have one and wear it all the time. My students always laugh and say I REALLY look like a teacher when I wear it. It's amazing - perfect for season transitions.
