According to New York Magazine, sky-high socks are the Next Big Thing. (These are my favorites.) Would you wear them?

  1. I've worn them because I have really long legs so they get super cold! I like the gray ones. I'm definitely going to be picking up a black pair soon!

    ReplyDelete
  2. in a heartbeat! especially if they came with a guarantee to stay up! i heart this outfit.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Oh yes if they came to my knee! Not my thighs... hee hee too self conscious! But I love her in these. The hat is super cute also.

    ReplyDelete
  4. This is actually a trend I would love to try. I think they look really adorable with that outfit.

  12. I was wearing them last winter, and early spring, so it's good to know that I'm ahead of fashion once more. How rad :)

    Happy 1st of September!

    ReplyDelete
  13. YES! The funny thing is when I was in catholic school from k to 8th grade I HATED wearing knee high socks and tights now I love them. Funny how things change.

  14. I love the high knee socks. Knees get cold too!

  15. My husband thinks they are sexy... so, I've worn them, but never really out and about (if you know what I mean...)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have a couple pairs I got in Japan last year, the girls over there were really fond of over-the-knee socks. However, since I wasn't blessed with mile high legs, I wear mine with sheer tights underneath.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm not sure this is a look for me. I'm curvy and athletically built - I think it's something that works on a girl who's more lanky and leggy. I'm seriously jeal though that this girl Garance captured pulls it off so well - I think cutting off my body in that spot wouldn't do it any favors. I might bust out a good knee sock though when running this winter :) Therefore - super high aren't my style.

  18. If I had those legs I would....

    ReplyDelete
  19. most definitly! adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I love wearing them in the cold! Especially under cute boots with just a little bit sticking out the top. I have a favorite purple pair I snagged from Urban Outfitters for $5!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I LOVE knee socks a lot! So cute & so perfect for autumn!

    ReplyDelete
  22. i love this look but wonder if age and legs play a factor in pulling it off. i like the idea of tights underneath! thanks for the link to your favorites, i'm going to buy a pair and try them out.
    xo!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I wore knee high socks when I lived in Germany for practical purposes during the cold winter months. I love them! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I do wear them but not with a gap between them and my skirt. I like to wear them with a knee length skirt - sexy without the self consciousness : ) Lots of people here in London, wear them over tights with a mini.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Absolutely. I am already scouting out where to find them. So far it looks like urban outfitters, DKNY, and the brand Hue have some great options.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Love this look - would definitely rock a pair.

Flashback to first day of school freshman year when I tried to creat a Cher outfit from the movie "Clueless" and wore knee socks and a hot plaid kilt.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would wear them if I could pull off the look like that! Not quite as confident that I could repeat the look from my own closet....

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous10:02 AM

They're cute and more comfortable than tights but I'm in my mid 40s so I think I'll stick with tights.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would wear them in order to stay warm bc I am ALWAYS cold! And yes they are very cute! But I think I would be obsessive about pulling them up over and over again!

    ReplyDelete
  30. i bought a pair from h&m but they were too short!! where can i find some nice long ones??

    http://thestylespotter.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  31. definitely need a few of these! i don't like wearing pants, only skirts and dresses, so these would be perfect to keep warm in when i don't feel like wearing tights!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think I am MOST excited for this trend!

    xx
    Nikki

    ReplyDelete
  33. I absolutely will be wearing them! BTW, I'm older than the mid 40's women who are commenting that they are too old for them. I'm wearing them anyway! Age is just a number!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love them. They must be stripy and maybe oddly matched. Like Pipi Longstocking! Any girl who can carry a horse and has a pet monkey AND wears the coolest socks in the world gets my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  35. oooo i love them! so much!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Loving the knee socks look! Just have to find the perfect pair that sits just right!

    www.annawithlove.com

    ReplyDelete
  37. oooh absolutely! now i just need to get a cute pair of booties to go with them! i wonder how they would look with taller boots, or if that would just be too much...hmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yep. I would most definitely wear knee socks...it just needs to get cool enough so I can.

    ReplyDelete
  39. these take me back to my childhood school days!

    ReplyDelete
  40. YES I would wear those; adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm seeing this all over Japan, too! It love the look, although I think of it more as 'thigh high' rather than knee high. Wish I could pull it off.. it just wouldn't be tasteful with my curvy legs, even in my 20's.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've always worn high sock! They keep my legs warm! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, that's a cool look. Nice outfit too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. not with my legs!! but i love the look... and that skirt!

    ReplyDelete
  45. yep- already much in evidence on the British festival circuit this Summer- though that's mostly to protect from wellies rubbing!

By the way did you have a surf poster from the 60s on your site at some point? I can see the image in my mind but I can't find it anywhere!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would LOVE to have the gams to wear these thigh highs! Alas...I will have to admire from afar...I'm a tights kind a gal...

  47. Love the look, but its not for me. I shall leave it to the younger slim legged beauties out there to do it justice!

    ReplyDelete
  48. absolutely. the colour mix in this outfit is amazing too!

    ReplyDelete
  49. i would love to, but i think i might be a bit to short (i'm 4'10")
i'll have to give it a try :)

  50. mmmmmmmmmmm qué frío!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes they are in and I'm a maybe on wearing them ;) I think the gray or another neutral is fine, and it'd have to be the perfect look for it!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh YES I would wear them. Bring on the fall weather.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love knee socks, I have many pairs. Fall wardrobe is my fave!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Gorgeous! Though I think people with shorter legs (like me) might not be able to pull it off >.<

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love this look..!

    ReplyDelete
  56. HAHA- ooh me wearing those would be funny. I've never tried, but I don't know much about fashion and I feel they would look unflattering on my thick, muscular legs. I'll leave that to the lovely slender/long legged-people. :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. I love this look but don't think I have the stems to pull it off. I do however, love the idea of socks with heels to transition into fall.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am a long-time proponent of tall socks. I frequently wear knee socks regardless of the strange looks I get, so I am DELIGHTED that these beauties are in! I'd wear them in a heart beat :D

    ReplyDelete
  59. LOVE knee socks, and like the trend reports too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. To be fair, I don't think that's the most flattering skirt. The socks are great though!

    ReplyDelete
  61. absolutely i would wear them. i shop for knee socks/thigh socks because i stay SO COLD all winter long and like to layer as much as possible... without feeling stuffed and unable to move. so i wear things like this under long johns and jeans..... ;)

    -v-

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yes!..... I'd wear them if I looked like the girl in the photo;)

    ReplyDelete
  63. lovelovelove them BUT - what do you think about wearing them to the office...??

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love this look but I'm more a "granny mixed with tomboy style" type and don't wear miniskirt anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  65. always have, they rock!

    ReplyDelete
  66. they look amazing on her... and her legs... i will look from afar... after all, after 45... we need to!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anonymous12:00 PM

I am getting old, the only thing I see are her hunched shoulders! I just want to tell her you look great in your sky high socks no need to be so tense!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yes, they are super cute. But I would make sure there wasn't too much walking to do as these socks tend to fall slightly with every step.

    ReplyDelete
  69. i have ALWAYS wanted to wear knee socks but could never pull a coordinating outfit together! i should do what prippy handbook says and copy cher from clueless! classic!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Apparently it's another case of everything old is new again! I had some of these in the 80s...and loved them then!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hm...I'll have to try this out, but fear it may be hard to pull off. I like the way it looks in the photo tho!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I do LOVE this look, but I just don't feel I have the legs for them. I am not trying to be down on myself, I just know the truth on this one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. I don't like the over-the-knee socks but I like the ones that go up to the knee. Megan Nielsen (from megannielsen.com) wears knee highs under her calf boots and I'm going to start doing that this fall 'cause it is ca-UTE!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I just got my first pair and wore them this last weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I would definitely wear them! I love the ones in the picture, and cute hat too!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think this look works only if you've got long, skinnies - I don't think it's a real woman look. So it's not a style for me.

    ReplyDelete
  77. i love this look but i agree, you have to have either long legs or if you are short, really skinny legs to pull it off. i have the long legs, but i'm wondering if there is an age limit to pull this off? at 37, i'm not sure if i could do it????

for sure, you could pull it of joanna!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I used to wear them quite a lot but the top of my legs would get very cold. I really like the look, but they're not so practical; I'll get thights instead!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yes for sure AND with the army jacket too

    ReplyDelete
  80. ooooo i love this trend and am SO happy it's in! i wore socks like this in 7th grade, and 17 years later, i'm looking forward to wearing this look again!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Hells yeah! I already have some.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I am looking to buy some now. I love love love the look and how quickly they update a favorite summer look and take into the colder weather. Plus unlike the ankle socks I think these are flattering on any size! Everyone should have a pair.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I would wear them....If they looked even remotely cute on my short and stocky legs:( I think this is a trend I will have to leave to the tall girls.

    ReplyDelete
  84. They are cute and quirky. I am debating on whether to wear them or not? It gets pretty cold where I live, so the knee socks could come in handy.

    ReplyDelete
  85. slightly obsesssed with knee/thigh socks at the moment!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I dunnoo....they look cute on her and probably on the leaner/longer women. I'd feel too cold on the part NOT covered by the socks hahaha :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. I do totally love this look. However, its a hard thing to pull off for daily wear. They are cute for non-working days but I always feel a bit like a streetwalker when I try to pull it off!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yes love the look, but I hate it when they don't stay up. Warmly, Karen

    ReplyDelete
  89. I can't wait to get a pair, love them!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I love your blog Joanna, but I would never listen to any magazine (New York Magazine) that lists fur as part of their "next big thing". Faux fur, that's fine, whatever, but listening fur on boots and then having a little cat next to it! Talk about horrible taste, NYMag! Real fur isn't in and it will never be in again.

The picture of the girl in knee-high socks however is fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think they're adorable in theory--they conjure up that back-to-school feeling that is so prevalent at this time of year--but I think you really have to love your legs in order to wear them.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I added myself to follow your blog. You are more than welcome to visit mine and become a follower if you want to.

    God Bless You ~Ron

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yep! I agree with the commenter who said they'd need to be guaranteed to stay up. I have some (knee-high) smartwools (they're thin and stripey, not nubby and think) that usually perform appropriately, but I think over-the-knee might be tricky.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Oh my gosh--this reminds me of the movie Clueless. Maybe Dr. Suess hats are coming back too!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yes, maam! I would! I've tried to experiment, I need a little bit more practice though. XO Valerie

P.S. Have you seen Coca Rocha portraying an artist's muse in Nordstrom's new fall print campaign? So Edie Sedgwick (but more sane).

    yes! cute!

    ReplyDelete
  97. That's actually really cute. Maybe I'll try it.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Absolutely. They rock when pulled on over tights. Don't like the bare leg at all, except on the very young. Key is layering. xx's

    ReplyDelete
  99. I really love this trend. They are a perfect alternative to black tights. I wore some black ones the other night with some oxfords and a stripped long sleeve t-shirt dress. I really was digging that outfit.

Her posture is making my back hurt...

    ReplyDelete
  101. I used to wear them when I was a teenager and something tells me I will probably start wearing them again!

    ReplyDelete
  102. I love tall socks because sometimes it's just not quite cool enough for leggings yet and they do the job nicely. And I love grey socks / leggings... goes with almost everything!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I LOVE tall socks, but I'm also 5'9" and some times I worry that because my legs are so long, I look kinda...like I'm trying to be a slutty teenager in a catholic school outfit! to put it bluntly. hopefully i can find a way to wear them with a skirt that is long enough that it looks that good (in the pic).

    ReplyDelete
  104. I love those socks... much better than wearing tights!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. i would love to but only if my legs look as good as those!

    ReplyDelete
  106. i love over-the-knee socks, but only when layered with tights!

    ReplyDelete
  107. i bought some for super cheap at american apparel the other day. we shall see when the weather gets cooler!

    ReplyDelete
  108. for sure. i love them!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I love these! I can't wait until fall so I can pull mine out again.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Uh , hell no! This is like the female equivalent of Urkel pulling up his pants too high.

    ReplyDelete
  111. ive been eyeing over knee socks for the past couple years, never manage to find the right pair! these are lovely.
    i should buy them

    ReplyDelete
  112. With knee-high boots yes. But not with those.

    ReplyDelete
  113. These go on my list of reasons why I love the Fall.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I easily have a weeks worth of knee high socks, they've been selling them here for some time. I love them, but not sure I'd wear them now i'm in my 20s for anything other than welly socks!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I love it, especially in grey! Might have to follow this trend.... great pic!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. she looks cute, but i'm not quiiiiiite sure I could rock them.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I like knee socks.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I love the heather gray. And for the right price. Great outfit! Must have these.

I can't believe I am ahead of a trend, I am not stylish at all! I started wearing over the knee socks last fall as I needed something to keep my legs warm under skirts (I like knee length) and I hate tights. I got mine at www.sockdreams.com, they have a huge selection and good prices.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Hell yeah I'd wear them. In grey. With a camel skirt and brown boots. Yeah, pretty much how this girl's rockin' it! xx

    ReplyDelete
  122. Abso-fing-lutely!!! RADNESS disguised as fashion!!! love it!

    ReplyDelete
  123. I love big long socks. I've been wearing them for years!

    ReplyDelete

Sure! only if my calves didn't look like daikon radishes. I lurrve your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  125. the socks really set off that celine skirt. she looks great.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I live in my over the knee socks- layered in the winter, and on their own in the summer! They are perfect with a hemline this length!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Oh my goodness! I haven't worn these since I was 13 and my legs were too little to keep them up, and I loved them. Definitely going to wear these again. So cute!

    ReplyDelete
  128. this is my most favorite trend for the fall....
    love!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Of course! I can't wait to wear them again;)

    ReplyDelete
  130. I love over-the-knee socks, and would wear them all winter if I could find a pair that didn't skootch downwards when I walk!

    ReplyDelete
  131. I adore them, but I have larger quads and they tend to make them look like ridiculous-unless I get the perfect sock.

    ReplyDelete
  132. If I didn't have such athletic legs, I definitely would.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yes knee socks are the next big thing! LOVIN IT.

    ReplyDelete
  134. i love this girl and everything she is wearing!!!
