According to New York Magazine, sky-high socks are the Next Big Thing. (These are my favorites.) Would you wear them?

I've worn them because I have really long legs so they get super cold! I like the gray ones. I'm definitely going to be picking up a black pair soon!

Oh yes if they came to my knee! Not my thighs... hee hee too self conscious! But I love her in these. The hat is super cute also.
This is actually a trend I would love to try. I think they look really adorable with that outfit.

YES! The funny thing is when I was in catholic school from k to 8th grade I HATED wearing knee high socks and tights now I love them. Funny how things change.

My husband thinks they are sexy... so, I've worn them, but never really out and about (if you know what I mean...)
I have a couple pairs I got in Japan last year, the girls over there were really fond of over-the-knee socks. However, since I wasn't blessed with mile high legs, I wear mine with sheer tights underneath.
I'm not sure this is a look for me. I'm curvy and athletically built - I think it's something that works on a girl who's more lanky and leggy. I'm seriously jeal though that this girl Garance captured pulls it off so well - I think cutting off my body in that spot wouldn't do it any favors. I might bust out a good knee sock though when running this winter :) Therefore - super high aren't my style.

I wore knee high socks when I lived in Germany for practical purposes during the cold winter months. I love them! :)
I do wear them but not with a gap between them and my skirt. I like to wear them with a knee length skirt - sexy without the self consciousness : ) Lots of people here in London, wear them over tights with a mini.
Absolutely. I am already scouting out where to find them. So far it looks like urban outfitters, DKNY, and the brand Hue have some great options.

Flashback to first day of school freshman year when I tried to creat a Cher outfit from the movie "Clueless" and wore knee socks and a hot plaid kilt.
I would wear them if I could pull off the look like that! Not quite as confident that I could repeat the look from my own closet....
They're cute and more comfortable than tights but I'm in my mid 40s so I think I'll stick with tights.
I would wear them in order to stay warm bc I am ALWAYS cold! And yes they are very cute! But I think I would be obsessive about pulling them up over and over again!

Love them. They must be stripy and maybe oddly matched. Like Pipi Longstocking! Any girl who can carry a horse and has a pet monkey AND wears the coolest socks in the world gets my vote.

I'm seeing this all over Japan, too! It love the look, although I think of it more as 'thigh high' rather than knee high. Wish I could pull it off.. it just wouldn't be tasteful with my curvy legs, even in my 20's.

I love this look but don't think I have the stems to pull it off. I do however, love the idea of socks with heels to transition into fall.
I am a long-time proponent of tall socks. I frequently wear knee socks regardless of the strange looks I get, so I am DELIGHTED that these beauties are in! I'd wear them in a heart beat :D

absolutely i would wear them. i shop for knee socks/thigh socks because i stay SO COLD all winter long and like to layer as much as possible... without feeling stuffed and unable to move. so i wear things like this under long johns and jeans..... ;)

Yes, they are super cute. But I would make sure there wasn't too much walking to do as these socks tend to fall slightly with every step.

Apparently it's another case of everything old is new again! I had some of these in the 80s...and loved them then!!

I don't like the over-the-knee socks but I like the ones that go up to the knee. Megan Nielsen (from megannielsen.com) wears knee highs under her calf boots and I'm going to start doing that this fall 'cause it is ca-UTE!

I think this look works only if you've got long, skinnies - I don't think it's a real woman look. So it's not a style for me.
i love this look but i agree, you have to have either long legs or if you are short, really skinny legs to pull it off. i have the long legs, but i'm wondering if there is an age limit to pull this off? at 37, i'm not sure if i could do it????

I am looking to buy some now. I love love love the look and how quickly they update a favorite summer look and take into the colder weather. Plus unlike the ankle socks I think these are flattering on any size! Everyone should have a pair.
I would wear them....If they looked even remotely cute on my short and stocky legs:( I think this is a trend I will have to leave to the tall girls.
They are cute and quirky. I am debating on whether to wear them or not? It gets pretty cold where I live, so the knee socks could come in handy.

I do totally love this look. However, its a hard thing to pull off for daily wear. They are cute for non-working days but I always feel a bit like a streetwalker when I try to pull it off!

I love your blog Joanna, but I would never listen to any magazine (New York Magazine) that lists fur as part of their "next big thing". Faux fur, that's fine, whatever, but listening fur on boots and then having a little cat next to it! Talk about horrible taste, NYMag! Real fur isn't in and it will never be in again.
The picture of the girl in knee-high socks however is fantastic.
I think they're adorable in theory--they conjure up that back-to-school feeling that is so prevalent at this time of year--but I think you really have to love your legs in order to wear them.

Yep! I agree with the commenter who said they'd need to be guaranteed to stay up. I have some (knee-high) smartwools (they're thin and stripey, not nubby and think) that usually perform appropriately, but I think over-the-knee might be tricky.
Oh my gosh--this reminds me of the movie Clueless. Maybe Dr. Suess hats are coming back too!

I really love this trend. They are a perfect alternative to black tights. I wore some black ones the other night with some oxfords and a stripped long sleeve t-shirt dress. I really was digging that outfit.

I love tall socks because sometimes it's just not quite cool enough for leggings yet and they do the job nicely. And I love grey socks / leggings... goes with almost everything!
I LOVE tall socks, but I'm also 5'9" and some times I worry that because my legs are so long, I look kinda...like I'm trying to be a slutty teenager in a catholic school outfit! to put it bluntly. hopefully i can find a way to wear them with a skirt that is long enough that it looks that good (in the pic).

I can't believe I am ahead of a trend, I am not stylish at all! I started wearing over the knee socks last fall as I needed something to keep my legs warm under skirts (I like knee length) and I hate tights. I got mine at www.sockdreams.com, they have a huge selection and good prices.
