Yesterday Toby and I went on an adventure to the nail salon so that I could get a pedicure. (He was cuddled up in the sling and loved the massaging chair.) But the best part was that, after years of trial and error, I finally stumbled upon the PERFECT red nail polish! Most reds are too bright or too dark, but Essie's Fishnet Stockings is just right and made me feel like a 1920's starlet (despite wearing a T-shirt covered in spit-up). I'm loving it and would highly recommend it. xo

Such a bold and pretty color! (:
ReplyDeleteI love essie! I like revlons frankly scarlet for the perfect red and also revlons red hot tamale

it is bold! but not too bold. seriously, it's perfect -- and that has been so hard to find! i've never been quite satisfied with the color until now. :)
ReplyDeleteooh, thanks, patricia!
ReplyDeleteOOh! That's my favorite, too!
ReplyDeletei always wear red on my toes, usually OPI. but i love painting with essie because it's nice and thin. definitely trying this color!

Kelly
I've never tried Essie. Thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the name.
Wouldn't that be a good job -- naming nail polish??
I'm totally with you... I have a red I kinda like but it's too bright... might have to give this a try (and I'm sure you looked fabulous in your T even if it was covered with spit up!!! :D so cute!!!)

finding a great red - polish, lipstick - is like finding a pot of gold. this one is a beauty!
ReplyDeletei am quite the fan of essie too. lately, i've been obsessing over the silvery lavender hue of the "miss vixen" color. it's a great transition polish into fall :)

Must pick up a bottle! So true on the perils of finding the perfect red. Glad Tody enjoyed his adventure : )

Nothing more classic or pretty than short, glossy, red nails. Not too orange, not too pink—this one looks perfecto!
ReplyDeleteOooo I'll try that!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Essie, but I've heard rave reviews - your red recommendation and Kelly's note about it being nice and thin might be just the motivation I need to give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't red on your toes just make you feel on top of the world? Love it.
It just makes you feel so prettty to have your nails and toes painted with a color like this!

Love this color! It looks like the perfect red. Can't wait to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI love having dressed up fingernails :)
ReplyDeleteI've been in a deep purple kind of mood lately. It looks just right with my short nails and super pale skin... but this red might have to be my next adventure!
ooh, i have been looking for a good red colour as well. thanks for the recommendation! i am definitely going to try this.
ReplyDeleteI have used this color for a long time. It's one of my favorites!
ReplyDeletePlus Essie seems to last longer than other brands :)
I discovered Essie's Bordeaux last year and it's been my favorite shade of red since, you should check it out, it's not too dark and not too bright.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE red nail polish and must have about 5 different shades that I use in rotation. My Fave right now is Rimmel 60 second express finish. My Second fave is a Chanel one which is rather extravagent but it stays on for 2 weeks straight, no chips. I used to like one called black cherry, not sure who it was that did it, it was lush.
ReplyDeleteYes! That's my favorite red, too. xo
ReplyDeleteIt's a very nice color, but I'm not a huge Essie fan myself, hate that you always need two coats. Guess I'm just lazy :)
ReplyDeleteI love classic reds! I will have to give that one a shot, I think Essie makes a great polish.
ReplyDeleteBecca
I's always in search of the perfect red...particularly hard since I have a lot of red in my skin. I'm a huge fan of Essie's New Fortune Cookie...think it was a Spring or Summer 2010 color...
ReplyDeleteI love Essie. Great color!
ReplyDeleteone of my favorite reds <3 great choice!
ReplyDeletegood to know because i love me a good red
ReplyDeletewait. are we talking wine or polish?
Red is always a winner isn't it?
ReplyDeleteEssie's selection of nail polish colors is ah-mazing and the application is great, too. I haven't tried this shade of red, though, so now I'm going to have to buy it!
ReplyDeleteAs a mom of 5 and 2 year olds, I can say that a mani/pedi is never sweeter than when you're wearing a t-shirt covered in spit up.
ReplyDelete:)
haha, kim, so true. :)
ReplyDeletei know! it's so funny how simple red polish on your toes can make you feel so instantly glamorous.
ReplyDeletei've seen a lot of happy essie users lately! will have to try out this red, it truly is hard to find the perfect one! wishing i could go for a pedicure right now!
ReplyDeleteGood to know:) I agree, a little red nailpolish goes a long way!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I hardly ever wear nail polish, but that kind of ringing endorsement has rather made me want some! A good red in makeup is always hard to find.
ReplyDeleteYay! I love a good red. Now, can you please find us the perfect shade for our lips? That quest has been on going since I was fifteen.
ReplyDeletered is probably the best color for my pale white skin! It makes me look a little chicer rather than a a human form of toothpaste! Cheers for the hot tip!
ReplyDeletexo tash
I JUST had a manicure on saturday and this is what I chose! Its sooo gorgeous... and the manicure is still looking good! I just love essie colors!
ReplyDeleteI have this!!!!! I love Essie too - it goes on so smooth!
ReplyDeleteApertif is also a great red Essie makes, will def try this one out though! Thanks

Joanna,
ReplyDeleteI am coming to new york in september for a little holiday with my mom. where did you go to get pedicures? that would be such a nice thing to do with my mom.
i was also wondering if you could tell me some of your favorite places to eat and what are the top things to do when visiting the city!
thanks! keri
Beautiful Red! Essie is my fave!
ReplyDeletexx Vivian @ http://diamondsandtulle.blogspot.com
I have one of the OPI Christmas sets and I love a couple coats of Little Red Wagon (I think it's called) on my toes. It has a little bit of a pink tone to it but once you get a few layers, it looks nice and red.
ReplyDeleteHey! It looks great! I really like the color red for a nail polish, but i am always afraid that they will come out too dark or will be too bright, or even to orange! This color looks prefect!
ReplyDeleteAnd the name is great too! :) P.S. Be proud to wear that spit-up T-shirt, Your a mom! That's amazing in itself!
http://annawalker1992.blogspot.com/
oooh, i love essie. even the texture is superior :)
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for the perfect red, this looks amazing!
ReplyDeletered nails are so glamorous, right?
i love essie, too. this summer i bought what i consider the perfect red (for me!) -- "one of a kind". it's a summery tomato red. :)
ReplyDeleteAm loving Watermelon by essie too
ReplyDeletehttp://mrsmasonrecommends.blogspot.com/
Oooh... I'm terrible at picking out nail polish colors so thanks for the tip! I'll have to try this.
ReplyDeletethat is the perfect nail polish name for such a sassy color!!!
ReplyDeleteRed is my favorite!!
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with you on finding the perfect red - always a challenge.
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing the footwork! ;)
I can't wait to sport those red toes!!
Essie always has great options. Love O.P.I, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeletehttp://ieatfashionforbreakfast.blogspot.com
red toes are so CLASSIC. thanks for the tip... i will have to try this shade!
ReplyDeleteI think that might actually be the perfect red! Eureka! When I pick a red I end up walking out of the salon disappointed and repaint at home with one of my go to pinks or almost black purples. I'm going to give red another chance with "fishnet stockings."
ReplyDeleteAwww... such a sweet image. How nice that you were able to get a pedicure with him along.
ReplyDeleteI love red nail polish!! thanks for sharing!! How sweet to take your little man!!! I was never brave enough to do that!
ReplyDeleteomg yes you are my hero I have been on a hunt buying every red i come across mixing them with other reds to try to make them perfect. thank you! im so excited to try it
ReplyDelete-legs :)
Err, is it OK to have a newborn in a nail salon? Weren't you worried about fumes?
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! I always go red on toes and that's my go-to polish. Red polish is my secret shout-out to the Ms. Diana Vreeland ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I'm quite familiar with Ms. FIshnet Stockings. Tres chic.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Essie is now a three-free polish (i.e. free of the three harsh chemicals found in most nail polishes: formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP phthales)? I know OPI, Butter London, and Rescue Beauty are free of them, so I was hoping Essie has jumped on the bandwagon. Until they do, I'm sticking with my 3-frees. :-)
ah perfect! thank you so much for the polish recommendation =] it looks lovely in the bottle, and you're so very right about it being difficult to find a nice red!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great. I'm also a fan of OPI Vodka & Caviar, and Essie Pouf Daddy. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteI wrote about my favorite summer color Essie polish(boat house) on my blog.. Check it out! SarahHendler.com
ReplyDeletehey! that's my favorite red too! I own two or three bottles at this point.
ReplyDeleteI took my son to the salon so that I could get a manicure-more importantly get that feeling that I'm more than just a diaper-changing-sippy-cup-filler!
ReplyDeleteHe's 4 & sat quitely in the chair playing games on my iPhone. He enjoyed playing without his 1 yr old sister grabbing for it. I got what I needed.
I've never done that before.
It worked like a dream!
Gonna look for your red pick next time.
Yay for babies who love nail salon massage chairs!!!
ReplyDeleteLove that color.
i love Essie!
ReplyDeletei will have to pick up a bottle asap. red nails never go out of style.
I've had the same issues with red nail polish - until I found this...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.zoya.com/content/38/item/Zoya/Zoya-Nail-Polish-Posh.html
LOVE the 'red wine color and sparkly matte finish'... stands out but in a subdued way (due to the matte).
I'll try the Essie one as well- to add to my 'can-wear' red collection"!!
I love Sally Hansen's Honeymoon Red shade. :)
ReplyDeleteYeaa!! Its is so difficult to get the perfect red!!!
ReplyDeleteooo that is the perfect shade of red! thanks for filling us in!
ReplyDeletelove red noveau!
ReplyDeleteopi's vodka & caviar is also amazing! it's my go-to retro red :)
ReplyDeletegorgeous red's are so sexy and beautiful good colour choice.x
ReplyDeletelooks perfect - a good red is hard to find but looks so good when you get it right
ReplyDeleteI have this one too! Great minds must choose nail polish alike ;)
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Essie, I'll have to check them out!
ReplyDeleteI love red nail polish and have a hard time branching out from it. My favorite is OPI's I'm Not Really A Waitress and Vampire State Building, although I don't think they make that one anymore.
i recently abandoned my red nailpolish and got capri from essie instead - all into orange now!
ReplyDeleteYoung lungs should not breathe in those chemicals. 'As a newborn' he should be protected. They're carcinogens. Protect him as if you were still pregnant with him. You won't be able to do it for much longer. Give him the best start you possibly can.

I'll have to try this red. So far I've found OPI's I'm not really a waitress to be the perfect red.
ReplyDeleteI am totally addicted to sally hensen "all fired up" it is alarm bright red!!!!! love it!!! I noticed when i wore it on a foggy day it looked like color in a black n white movie.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great nail colour! Napoleon in Australia have a very similar red.

I dont think we have Essie here in France. But frankly, your red looks gorgeous. Just like the Chanel Dragon (bright red or so) I got myself yesterday ! I am planning to have it on for my elopement - i totally agree with you : those make you feel like a starlet, despite the baby's spit (or, variant, my favorite A&F tees, totally unglamorous) !
ReplyDeleteI just bought this and painted my nails. It really is the perfect red. I am so ready for fall and this is the perfect red color for fall.
ReplyDeleteEssie is the best nail color company. It's more expensive but you really get what you pay for.
ReplyDeleteHere, I do not actually imagine it will have effect.
