The perfect red nail polish

Yesterday Toby and I went on an adventure to the nail salon so that I could get a pedicure. (He was cuddled up in the sling and loved the massaging chair.) But the best part was that, after years of trial and error, I finally stumbled upon the PERFECT red nail polish! Most reds are too bright or too dark, but Essie's Fishnet Stockings is just right and made me feel like a 1920's starlet (despite wearing a T-shirt covered in spit-up). I'm loving it and would highly recommend it. xo

    And I love the name.
Wouldn't that be a good job -- naming nail polish??

  8. I'm totally with you... I have a red I kinda like but it's too bright... might have to give this a try (and I'm sure you looked fabulous in your T even if it was covered with spit up!!! :D so cute!!!)

  9. finding a great red - polish, lipstick - is like finding a pot of gold. this one is a beauty!

i am quite the fan of essie too. lately, i've been obsessing over the silvery lavender hue of the "miss vixen" color. it's a great transition polish into fall :)

  12. I've never tried Essie, but I've heard rave reviews - your red recommendation and Kelly's note about it being nice and thin might be just the motivation I need to give it a shot.

Doesn't red on your toes just make you feel on top of the world? Love it.

  19. I LOVE red nail polish and must have about 5 different shades that I use in rotation. My Fave right now is Rimmel 60 second express finish. My Second fave is a Chanel one which is rather extravagent but it stays on for 2 weeks straight, no chips. I used to like one called black cherry, not sure who it was that did it, it was lush.

Err, is it OK to have a newborn in a nail salon? Weren't you worried about fumes?

  58. Totally agree! I always go red on toes and that's my go-to polish. Red polish is my secret shout-out to the Ms. Diana Vreeland ;)

  59. Oh, yes, I'm quite familiar with Ms. FIshnet Stockings. Tres chic.

I wonder if Essie is now a three-free polish (i.e. free of the three harsh chemicals found in most nail polishes: formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP phthales)? I know OPI, Butter London, and Rescue Beauty are free of them, so I was hoping Essie has jumped on the bandwagon. Until they do, I'm sticking with my 3-frees. :-)

  64. I took my son to the salon so that I could get a manicure-more importantly get that feeling that I'm more than just a diaper-changing-sippy-cup-filler!
He's 4 & sat quitely in the chair playing games on my iPhone. He enjoyed playing without his 1 yr old sister grabbing for it. I got what I needed.
    I've never done that before.
    It worked like a dream!
Gonna look for your red pick next time.

I'll try the Essie one as well- to add to my 'can-wear' red collection"!!

Young lungs should not breathe in those chemicals. 'As a newborn' he should be protected. They're carcinogens. Protect him as if you were still pregnant with him. You won't be able to do it for much longer. Give him the best start you possibly can.

I dont think we have Essie here in France. But frankly, your red looks gorgeous. Just like the Chanel Dragon (bright red or so) I got myself yesterday ! I am planning to have it on for my elopement - i totally agree with you : those make you feel like a starlet, despite the baby's spit (or, variant, my favorite A&F tees, totally unglamorous) !
