Would you ever have a destination wedding? Where would you go? This Michigan couple invited their family and friends to Iceland, where they tied the knot in a teeny chapel. The portrait by the hot springs is so rad.P.S. Weddings in Jamaica, Manhattan and Sweden.

my fiance & I had plans to marry in Barcelona.. but ended up having a baby instead. Oops! :]
ReplyDeleteI love this wedding...Amazing photos and who would thought, right?
ReplyDeleteI would probably go to Paris..I know its cliché but I totally love that city:)
Kisses,Joanna
Btw: Balazs and I wanted to get married in Paris and the law is that you have to live there for at least a month before you can officialy get all the papers:(
ReplyDeleteWe are thinking about it...hahaha...Would be fun:)
kisses, Joanna
I love that you called the portrait 'rad.' It is. I would love to have a destination wedding, in Idaho, on my parents' front lawn or by the lake. I know Idaho doesn't sound like a 'destination,' but it's gorgeous. :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful place to get married, love this little chapel, and the view...just gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI had a destination wedding in the Outerbanks. A yellow house on the beach filled with friends and family in the middle of a tropical storm...it was amazing.
ReplyDeletewe were married in monterey, california which is only 8 hours from where we live, but it gave our guests a chance to take a mini vacation. i wouldn't change anything about it, but if i had to choose to have a major destination wedding, i think i'd pick florence. photos in the piazza would be incredible!
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos! Love the hot springs picture as well. I got married in Vegas. Wouldn't it be nice. Marcia
ReplyDeleteAhh..have you been to Iceland? I have and it's quite amazing, I actually think I recognize the last photo. If you love hot springs it's the place to go..and the country is so clean, if only we could use geothermal energy here! Anyways..it's a place that I would definitely visit again. Thanks for this post and for reminding me of great memories:)
ReplyDeleteJulie xo
Ooo - the hot springs picture is so sweet! I'm not sure I could do a destination wedding - I think it would have to be some place incredibly special to both me and my husband to be. Call me old-fashioned, but I'm all about sentimental value!
ReplyDeleteBecca
It never would have been my first choice, but how romantic does *that* look??
ReplyDeletethis is very elegant :)
ReplyDeleteIceland looks fab - it's on my list of places to visit so it's a possibility, as are NY (brother lives there) or Stockholm (beautiful). Just waiting for Mr TNMA to ask!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to visit Iceland! What a beautiful wedding!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to runaway to Ireland and get married on a hill but my husband just couldn't do it. He has a VERY large family and knew they would be crushed - Sedona was a nice 2nd place anyway.
ReplyDeleteit looks so different and romantic and such a change after all that bad volcano press!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely like the idea of a destination wedding but I also feel like it would add so much stress... dealing with all these new vendors and people that you don't know would be enough to drive my batty.... but I'd just love to get married in an old parisian church...sigh...

How wonderful! I have heard of other destination weddings. Someone had an Anne of Green Gables themed wedding on Prince Edward's Island. They dressed up and everything!
ReplyDeleteThis certainly is very romantic! I have always wanted to be married in a castle in the UK or Ireland - maybe someday!!!

I would so go to a destination wedding! Who wouldn't?!?! It would be so much fun :) I hope to go to one someday, all the weddings I went to were farther away, but they wern't "destination"

I have officially added Iceland to my must travel destination list thanks to you! I was married in Jamaica. We eloped. It was epic...and very hot!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Tina
OMG I love her dress with the coat! So classy.
ReplyDeletea few of my relatives just got back from there and LOVE it! looks SO nice... : ) I would like mine in Alaska! (if i could re do it lol)
ReplyDeleteHope you get a chance to enter my giveaway today its...Relaxing!
I am from Portugal and I would love to marry either in our countryside or in Manhattan!

Wow. Looks like it's in the middle of nowhere! What a memorable getaway for the couple and their guests. I always thought that I'd only do a destination wedding at a place that meant something to us as a couple, but then again, a random setting like this would be amazing! xo
ReplyDeleteoooh, wish i could have attended this wedding!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteDestination weddings are wonderful as long as the location is straight from the couple's heart and really personifies "them"
ReplyDeleteThat wee chapel is just a dream. I like the idea of a wedding somewhere secluded like this. So special, intimate and personal.
ReplyDeleteHi there!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to stop and say how much I love your blog. Thanks for posting. I will be back for updates. :-)
Gorgeous...and cheaper to get to than the Carribean or Tuscany, I bet!
ReplyDeleteoh I'm all over the place with my travel likes so anywhere from the rockies to bora bora would work, iceland looks magical!! the hot spring one is perfection
ReplyDeletehttp://www.pinkpeonieswithlove.blogspot.com
I would love to get married in my boyfriend's town of treviso italy it is beautiful looks a lot like Venice.
ReplyDeletehot springs are awesome! i actually did have a destination wedding - in france! it was a dream come true. one of our friends rented this giant fourteenth century templar, and all of our friends stayed there together. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved my destination wedding. We were married in Jamaica. It was an amazing week with my nearest and dearest! http://www.snippetandink.com/blogger?q=http://snippetandink.blogspot.com/2010/05/real-wedding-valery-chauncey.html
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no, & no. Simply put, if someone wants family & friends to be there, it is very selfish. I say that as a person who has been screamed at for not being able to afford about 10 of these things. If I want to go somewhere, I'll go on a vacation. (One time it was Iceland & I loved it.)
ReplyDeleteUgh. See Miss Manners & Carolyn Hax & Ask Amy on this question. Lots of us love weddings & are very happy for people but really. It is a day, maybe 2-days about you...not a week. Not everyone's vacation time & money.
I dream of a destination wedding that is small and very intimate. This looks simply perfect to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique wedding!
ReplyDeleteYes!!! 100 times YES!!! I want to get married THERE...now, if only to find someone to ask me!
ReplyDeletewhoa! i really would love to go to iceland for my honeymoon. i think it would be beautiful to have a wedding amongst the sunflowers and lavender fields in tuscany. if only i were rich! =)
ReplyDeleteWauw, these are so beautifull pictures!
ReplyDeleteWow, these pictures are breathtaking. One of my friends from college is having her wedding at Villa D'Este on Lake Como (this is where I would've chosen to have my wedding if it were feasible). XO Valerie
ReplyDeleteP.S. today, I honor all things blue with my Eiffel 65 "I'm Blue" posting.
http://imstarvin.blogspot.com/2010/08/im-blue.html
The second photo looks a bit like an edward gorey drawing, don't you think? love it.
ReplyDeletei really wanted to do this, but we don't have much money to travel. So instead we invited our families to visit us in Santa Fe where we are living/working for the summer and did it there! not quite Iceland, but it was still great!
ReplyDeleteWow what a cool wedding!
ReplyDeleteiceland is number one on my list right now! what an amazing wedding!!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous!

Wow this is beautiful. I never thought much of Iceland until seeing a few things you've posted about it recently. What a beautiful place. If money was no object for anyone I might have considered a destination wedding but there is something to be said too for being surrounded by those you love in the place you call home.
ReplyDeletei had a destination wedding on maui. it started as plans for a vacation with my sister and her husband. we got engaged in the meantime, figured the hawaii trip would make a great honeymoon and decided to marry while we were there. it was only the 4 of us. it was perfect for us! the best day of my life. pam
ReplyDeleteI was in Iceland in April and it really is that beautiful!! I've always thought getting married in Ireland with the ocean waves crashing against the cliffs would be romantic...
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought to have a destination wedding in Iceland... but, the pictures are stunning!
ReplyDeletei love that little chapel! i have always dreamed of getting married in a tiny chapel in the middle of nowhere. just gotta convince my guy.
ReplyDeleteA wedding in the rain has never looked so good. These photos make me very optimistic about dreaming of an outdoor wedding.
ReplyDeleteGreat images from Iceland. Hope you do not mind that we have linked to it.
ReplyDeleteThe icelandic travel guide
i want to go to iceland SO bad! this only furthers that longing. ;) so beautiful!
ReplyDeletegorgeous! I want to have a destination wedding but then I feel not as many of my friends/family would be able to attend.
ReplyDeleteA unique wedding is the first wedding of course.
ReplyDeleteNigel www.sidestreetstudio.com
I LOVE this and would get married here! I would want a destination wedding!
ReplyDeletevery beautiful photos... we are having a big family wedding in philly... but if we went the destination route I think Irish Countryside would have been my preference.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is fantastic. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were married in Turks and Caicos two years ago and have gone back for our anniversary ever since. It's absolute paradise for us! Here are a few pics...

these photos are amazing. mmm...portugal for sure! small, quaint, the beach close by...
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting but beautiful destination! The steamy fog really adds to the ambiance...
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning backdrop to all their photos! Iceland just has to be the most magical place.
ReplyDeletevery cool pictures, i had a hard time believing that these pictures are real and not some photoshop miracle, i loved going through the interesting album
ReplyDeleteToo beautiful for words these wedding pictures :) Warms my heart
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends (from a long time ago) just got married in Fuerteventura in the Sheraton hotel. It was a beautiful fantastic wedding
ReplyDeleteWell, I like in the uk and we got married in Cypress Gardens in Florida, it was truely beautiful. Family and friends came out too just made the day even more special xxx
ReplyDeleteLove is always breathtaking no matter where the hearts find themselves. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove those pictures... they are so gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeletehow amazing is that! that little church is so dang cute! iceland is definitely on my list of places to visit in my lifetime.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love the idea of the destination wedding, I'd never do it. I mean, I'd love to get married in Italy or something. It would be gorgeous. But I would hate that any friends and family who didn't have the money for a trip to Europe wouldn't be able to come and share the day with us--I think we'll stay local when we tie the knot.
ReplyDeleteI was married in Tuscany in 2005, and it was the most amazing experience! We had a small wedding with 20 people total, and I would never trade it for any other experience. We had an informal reception upon returning to Los Angeles, for all the family and friends who couldn't make it who enjoyed our stories and photos from the trip. This year, my best friend is getting married in Koh Samui in Thailand at the end of September. Can't wait to go! I really would highly recommend a destination wedding to anyone that can do it. It really makes for wonderful memories.

Amazing photos!
ReplyDeleteI had a destination wedding in San Diego (we live in Colorado) and we loved everything about it...everyone was on vacation together, we didn't sweat the details because it was out of our hands and we all had a wonderful time.
so romantic!
ReplyDeletei adore small weddings :)
Such beautiful photos - so much atmosphere! :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful pictures of the wedding!!
ReplyDeleteIceland is a beautiful country... I loved my time there, coming back from studying in Norway.

ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! :) My ex-husband is Icelandic and we married in ReykjavÃk... but we married in the courthouse, in a very ugly orange room, and not in a gorgeous little church.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the hotsprings though and can attest that they are absolutely that gorgeous, however the photo does nothing to convey the smell of rotten eggs! ;)
So picturesque. I've thought pretty seriously about having a destination. First, my boyfriend is from England & I'm from California, so a wedding somewhere else would mean not choosing sides. But also, I've always thought it would be nice because at a destination wedding, only the people who really want to go will be there, so all of the obligatory friends/family members will be invited but don't have to show up. I realize it's not as romantic of a way to look at it, but it would make the day go so much more smoothly, in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures, so breath taking!
ReplyDeleteSuch amazingly beautiful photos! Ironic because my bf and I have been talking about a wedding in Iceland. He is Icelandic and Swedish but raised in Norway and I'm a California girl. Icelanders are pretty proud of their heritage and I've never been there so I would love to have our wedding take place there. As someone above said - only people who really wanted to would be there. And that, after all, is what really matters most!!

Nice photos! I like the whole concept of the wedding. It looks so unique!
ReplyDeleteMy sweetheart and I were married last October in Reykjavik (just the two of us, though our family knew beforehand and fully supported us). It was fantastic, and we ended up bringing home a surprise souvenir from our grand adventure - our little boy is due at the end of next month!
