3-year-old charmer
Oh my goodness, this video of a 3-year-old reciting a gorgeous (and long!) poem is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. I posted it on Highchair Critics; watch it here. I can't believe he memorized the whole thing.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I am just smiling from ear to ear!! I am a Poet, but I never heard that Poem before. How wonderful that the first time I hear it is from the mouth of a little heart-bending Poet like him. I also know that no matter how many times I hear it henceforth it will never feel the same again. :-)

Kids are much smarter than we think and they feel what's going on around them. That's why it's so important to talk to them, even if they don't speak so much when they are tiny. That's how they develop a feeling for language.

he actually has intonation and gusto when he recites this! this just pulls on my heart strings...
I love it! the pauses he takes in between the lines..aww and his sweet voice. My congrats to the lucky parents. they have done a good job of raising him!

You are the bread and the knife,
the crystal goblet and the wine.
You are the dew on the morning grass
and the burning wheel of the sun.
You are the white apron of the baker
and the marsh birds suddenly in flight.
However, you are not the wind in the orchard,
the plums on the counter,
or the house of cards.
And you are certainly not the pine-scented air.
There is just no way you are the pine-scented air.
It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge,
maybe even the pigeon on the general's head,
but you are not even close
to being the field of cornflowers at dusk.
And a quick look in the mirror will show
that you are neither the boots in the corner
nor the boat asleep in its boathouse.
It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am the sound of rain on the roof.
I also happen to be the shooting star,
the evening paper blowing down an alley,
and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table.
I am also the moon in the trees
and the blind woman's tea cup.
But don't worry, I am not the bread and the knife.
