Guest Post: Bocce Ball

bocce
Recently, I came across two bocce ball sets, and they're the prettiest I've seen. The $2800 Chanel one, of course, is for serious players and would take your bocce ball to a whole other level. Which outdoor games do you enjoy playing?

i have fond memories of tether ball...we had a pole on the side of my house growing up.

Tennis for me! The Chanel set looks lovely but I'm guessing I won't excel at the game judging by my bowling skills...

I love bocce ball, but can stand Horseshoes, which is weird because they are very similar. Also, $2800 for a bocce ball set?! Yowzers!

We are serious bocce ball lovers in my house! It's such a great game to play in the yard and take to the lake - AND you can play with a drink in your hand. C'mon, it doesn't get any better than that! Sets can be pricey but we picked up ours for $50 in the 'gift' section of a big box bookseller and we love it.

haha, that chanel bocce set made me laugh. i actually love the restoration hardware set, though...it would make a great gift. i grew up playing bocce in my backyard and would love my own set. so cute.

We play bocce all the time, though our set cost $30 at Target, ha! We also like badminton and croquet!

I used to love to play badminton, tennis and basketball. Health won't allow anymore, but there's nothing wrong with my eyes! I can look!! :-))...My mind is pretty good too...board games is my thing now! And yes, they can be played outdoors!

My husband was just trying to convince me to turn our backyard into a bocce pit last night.

Bocce is one of our summer games, as is croquet. I get seriously competitive when it comes to croquet.

we also love playing Kube, is anyone else a fan?

i was JUST looking for a bocce ball set! unfortunately, the chanel version is a little out of my price range. love playing this!

we have bocce ball and croquet ready for our wedding next yea, so fun! we are planning on a ton of other games we will have set up for it as well. The game fits in so well with our rustic and vintage theme.

i just bought my mom a bocce ball set for her birthday! it's so much fun!

We have the first set pictured and love having Bocce tournaments in our backyard in the summer. We're also fans of "all terrain croquet" in which my husband creates an elaborate course that involves ramps, steep downhill shots and the occasional over-the-deck shot.

I love bocce ball. We're always playing it during the summer in our backyard. I remember two summers ago, i bought a new set (well made and they were heavy). I injured my arm because my overhand throw was clumsy. I think my poor wrist couldn't manage the heavy bocce ball:-). Anyway, i really enjoy playing that game.

I love bocce ball! Played it a lot on vacation in Mexico a couple months ago and got really into it. If I had unlimited disposable income that Chanel set would be all mine!

oh I love bocce ball! we used to play a LOT when I was in college. {I have to agree with the person that commented about being able to play with a drink in hand!!}

we're planning on having a set at our wedding for the guests to play!

Bocce ball is the bomb. I love to play with a Tom Collins. As amazing as that Chanel set would be, I love ours from Target. I am a pretty big fan of all lawn sports: croquet, horseshoes, badminton, etc.

I actually think I like the Restoration Hardware set better. I'll have to put in on my to-buy list!

Yes-- we love Bocce ball so much that we've gotten both my family and my hubs' family into it!
For other readers: You can play anywhere, and don't be deterred if you're bad at bowling (as I am) because Bocce literally has a moving target, and there's just as much luck as skill involved. So fun!

I saw that Restoration Hardware game this weekend and was dying! So adorable and classic, as is everything in that store. It's dangerous stepping foot in there...

I've never played but my sister had a bocce ball party where everyone got all fancied up for a great sunday afternoon. I'll have to pass this on to her.

$2800 would not work for my family as we have broken a few balls in our time lol But they're awesome all the same!

Madeleine said...

Actually, the Chanel version is in fact a pétanque set (bocce's French cousin). I bring it up just for educational purposes, of course!

Gorgeous! Each year we have a Memorial Day party that involves a crochet tournament.

Love Bocce!! We always play it at my family reunions.

Also, seeing as I'm from the Lehigh Valley, we play a lot of quoits at outdoor gatherings.

i'm an extreme bocce player. we take the game into the woods for an all-terrain experience. so fun but our heavy duty sets rarely last a season.
i don;t think that chanel set was made for extreme bocce, lol.

Petanque, which is similar to Bocce, but French!

Boccia is so much fun, I played it often when I was younger. I also spent quite some time watching the old men of the Provence and their boccia-battles on my last trip to France in May.

Yes, I suppose. But one can be a serious, very serious, bocce or petanque player w/out spending so much money. Just ask all the (mostly old) men in towns, small & large, all over the Mediterranean. Just sayin'...

Glad to see that a couple other ladies know their boules from their bacci--needless to say, the Chanel set, being French, isn't bacci, which is Italian. We live happily side by side, though, and play boules on the bacci court in our Brooklyn 'hood.
