Airbnb

Alex and I often rent houses when we go on vacation. It's fun to meet the homeowners, you instantly feel like a local, and rentals are typically more budget-friendly than hotels. We usually find places through HomeAway or vrbo, but I just discovered the vacation rental website airbnb, and I'm officially obsessed. I've spent an embarrassing amount of time lately browsing through their listings and daydreaming about future trips. I'm especially loving the majestic homes in the Hudson Valley, maybe for a little family getaway this summer!

(Thanks, Yolanda)

  15. Next summer our closest friends (3 other couples) and we are planning to rent a house in Italy or Spain. If we go as a family some other time (husband/2 sweeties) we plan on just doing a house exchange. Our historic city here is quite attractive here for tourists: 6 hours from you, 3 to Montreal, 2 to Toronto and on Lake Ontario. Friends of ours do it all the time with upscale homes and it totally beats other options - get a car, immersed in a village, yadda yadda.
That place you have a photo of on this post would be perfect ;)

    have a good weekend

  17. Great tip, I haven't seen this site before. I much prefer staying in a house too. We found both the house where we got married and the cute "little house" where we've stayed three times - both on Cedar Key - through vrbo. Now I'm dreaming of vacation (as if I needed more reason to). Have a fabulous weekend Joanna!

  18. OH WOW! My grandfather is from that area. It's so beautiful...

I'll have to check out the site--thanks for the link. We too like to rent houses when we take a vacation, which is becoming less and less frequent with 3 small children and one more on the way..

  19. On a totally different note - I'm sad of course that you are leaving Glamour.com but so excited for you to be able to spend time with your little one. I wish I'd had more time (I only took 3 1/2 months, my husband then took paternity leave) and it was very, very hard to leave him! So, good luck with all your new adventures, but most of all, good luck at the birth and so excited for you to meet your new guy!

  29. I absolutely agree. Renting houses is almost always the way to go. We went to Negril last year with a group of friends and rented a beautiful house right on the beach near the center of town. It was secluded enough, yet we had easy access to the people, the city and the culture. We ventured up the rode to a few "Travel and Leisure" places for drinks and although gorgeous, there was no sense of where we were...as if you could be anywhere in the Caribbean. And maybe some people love that, but I like to experience a country or a city through the people. Whatever lifts your luggage, I guess. Will bookmark that site for future trips. Thanks!

    Beware of Airbnb!

This site has taken off like wild fire but be aware of the risks. Behind the pretty facade there's little real structure or organisation. They do not offer any sort of protection and are not interested in helping resolve problem situations. And problem situations will come up believe me, in which case you are on your own. I have had a terrible experience with them. Following a failed reservation I was left out nearly $1000 and Airbnb just walked away. Be aware of what you're getting into. These people are just out to make money on your back.

    USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

  52. The house looks splendid! It's one of the best looking estate houses that I've ever seen.

We also rent houses whenever our family is on vacation. When we went to NYC, short term apartments have been a convenient option. It has home like features that are not present in traditional hotels. I also favor the plush designs that reflect the cosmopolitan nature of the big apple.

    Thanks for sharing!

  56. The ambiance surrounding the house looks relaxing. The green mist is very much calming. And it rejuvenates the body and soul! I wish I could go there as soon as I am done with my bright-lights-experience here in NYC, short term apartment made me stay longer here. It made me think, I should definitely try one of those vacation apartments! New York City brought me a lot of fun and that kind of scenery would surely bring me a relaxing moment after my city light leisure.

  65. Rent In Paris Glamour apartments are on of the best apartments in Paris. They are providing all the facility to their visitors like pick and drop from airport to apartments and apartments to site view. On their website simply enter your date of arrival, date of departure, number of members, and confirm you’re booking by online payment. These apartments are very cost effective. You can get rent for short time period as well as long. You don’t have to pay on per day. If you check out little late than the scheduled time you will never be charged extra for that.
