Musk for girls

One of my guy friends used to wear Kiehl's Musk 1921, which is the greatest scent. Luckily, it also works on ladies (deep, rich, tomboy-ish, awesome), so I've been trying it out myself. I have to say, I'm really into it. The sexy scent pairs well with T-shirts and jeans, and you won't be able to stop sniffing your wrist.

What type of perfume do you wear, my lovelies?

  1. Clinique Happy Heart-- same one since I was 16. I was drawn to the name but stuck with it because of the light floral scent.

  2. I wear Marc Jacobs blush sprayed twice into my st. ives lotion and rub it all over my bod! But the smell of Chloe perfume reminds me of my mama, which I also adore.

  3. Chance by Chanel, when I can afford it. Being a penniless student doesn't bode well for my perfume collection!

  4. I love musky smells on women. I've worn patchouli oil for ten years. I mix it with a little spray of a perfume I have called Paper & Cotton, and it's a perfect mix of sweet and spicy!

    ReplyDelete
  5. If you like Kiehl's Musk, you should also try Tom Ford's Black Orchid. It's super spicy and sultry, like a sexy tomboy! It's the only thing I've worn for the past few years.

  6. Truthfully my favorite is a little moroccan oil in my hair. It lasts all day and doesn't diffuse into a grandma scent the way my marc jacobs used to.

I will be sure to try this one! I am in love with "Pretty" by Elizibeth Arden. I get so many compliments and it is funny because they all say to me, "wow your perfume smells pretty, what is it?" and I say with a laugh, "pretty!"

I also mix it sometimes with the fragrance I bought for my wedding day, Jean Paul Gaultier's Madame. It is sexy and a bit heavier and is heavenly when mixed with Pretty's light scent!

  55. I love musk scents, I've been meaning to try this Kiehl's version forever. I've heard nothing but raves about it. I'm really particular about scent, it has to satisfy about forty picky requirements. I love Burberry Classic, it's lovely and warm, a little bit fruity but not in a sweet cloying way. Currently though I'm obsessed with Morrocanoil products for hair, the oil and the conditioner. They smell heavenly I wish I could use them on my whole body!! It is also a warm, musky, perhaps a bit spicy scent.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I wear Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue, because I thought it smelled colorful and sexy. And now my sisters and sister-in-law all wear it too! I wonder if I changed my perfume if they would too? If I am like their perfume leader. I will take this job seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I love Stella McCartney's fragrances, but haven't seen anyone shout them out yet. They remind me of living in London.

Also, on the scent tip, the best advice I had before our honeymoon was to choose a special fragrance to only wear on honeymoon so every time you smell it after you get all nostalgic. It still works 5 years on!

  136. I've been on the fence for years about perfume because I'd heard about the unimaginable cruelty involved in obtaining natural musk from live animals.

Thankfully, according to Wikipedia, "Until the late 19th century, natural musk was used extensively in perfumery until economic and ethical motives led to the adoption of synthetic musk, which is used almost exclusively."

I'll need to confirm that for my own conscience, but then I'll be so delighted to try Kiehl's as my re-entry into the perfume world!

  137. I'm on the eternal quest. Mrs. E. loves Safari for Men on me. I'm leaning to Creed's Original Vetiver.

  148. By Day JLo "Miami Glow" it sooooo reminds me of Hawaiian Tropic and holidays in the Sun, so this is a must in Winter (it's like gold dust to get hold of)!! By Night "Narciso Rodriguez" for her Lush Lush Lush mmmmmmmmmm xxSuexx

  149. I like to mix Marc Jacobs Daisy with Escada Ibiza Hippie. The sweet fruitiness of the Escada is muted a bit by the softer floral scent of the Daisy. In the winter I actually really love Bath & Body Works Vanilla Noir - it's sweet and spicy, with a little bit of musk and men swoon over it.

Sometimes if I'm in the mood for a change I either use C.O. Bigelow's Lemon (lemon with a hint of vanilla and floral), or a simple rose oil I picked up at a craft fair this winter.

  150. Also, my daughter and I went to see the Bonnie Hunt show in January, where the giveaway was a bunch of Kiehl's facial products. Their moisturizer is wonderful! Ever since, I've been wanting to pop into their store to see their other products. Thanks for the tip!

  151. sounds awesome. i have always liked guys scent's over the ones available for girls (regardless of how guys felt about it); I am a tomboy to the core. I bet i'd like this one very much! :)

  152. One of my fav perfumes is a discontinued Gap scent called Sueded Musk. I have it in a roll on and have won sexiest perfume contests before! Too bad I cant find it anywhere anymore! I will ahve to check out the Kiehl's version!

  155. i wear classic marc jacobs. it smells like gardenias.

you totally strike me as a kiehl's musk girl! it's funny how a woman's scent can tell you so much about their personality.

  157. "Breathless" by Victoria's Secret is my perfume of choice, meaning I don't wear perfume unless it's this one. Too many smell way too floral and girly for me and this one is perfect. It's got a bit of that musky thing going on, but it has a hint of something floral and something fruity to lend a nice, subtle feminity to it. It doesn't smell like anything my grandmother owns which is a big plus
(love you Grandma!) but it doesn't make me feel like a teenybopper either. I'm far from being 100% tomboy, but I cringe at the thought of wearing skirts and heels on a daily basis. This is perfect for the middle-ground woman, which, if I'm not mistaken, is most of us.

  158. I wear a "man's fragrance" too. It's by korres and is comprised of saffron amber, agarwood and cardamom. It smells very unique and spicy but is just feminine enough to get away with. On the days when I want to feel extra girly, I wear V&R's Flowerbomb.

  161. Most commonly I wear American Cream from Lush. I used to use the conditioner by the same name and when anyone hugged me they would compliment me and hang on a little extra long - always a good thing. Then I started using the solid purfume, and now I get even more compliments. It smells OK in the little tin, but when you wear it comes to life beautifuly.
I love the scent of honey. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a honey scent?

  166. My main staple is YSL's Baby Doll. It was the first perfume I paid more than $20 for. While it's super cute and pretty, I think I'm ready for another upgrade. I'll definitely try these Kiehl products. On a side note: if it were up to my boy, I would wear some crazy baked good spray from Bath and Body Works... I think he's still in some middle school state of mind when it comes to scents.

  167. I'm a complete perfume addict and rarely wear the same perfume for anything more than a week; instead, I spritz according to my mood and my outfit. I wear Agent Provacateur when I'm feeling sultry(love the pink egg-like bottle too!), various Ormonde Jayne fragrances(almost all delicious, and high quality . . . my favorite is Champaca, then Ta'if, Frangipani and Woman), Narcisco Rodriguez for quiet cozy moods, Calvin Klein Truth when it's cold out, Lancome Mille et une Roses (delicious light vanilla-lemon-rose) in the spring, Prada Infusion d' Iris in hot weather, and recently,Frederic Malle Carnal Flower(beautiful tuberose) and L'Occitane the pour un ete(jasmin tea and so fresh and light). I blog about scents too if you're interested:

  168. Also, in response to Jennifer Lorton's comment above, if you love honey, i would recommend Serge Lutens Miel du bois(super raw, intense honey with a woods note . . . strange and lovely), Ava Luxe's Honey Parfum(musky honey) and Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey cologne(yummy).

  170. Joanna! First of all, I love your blog. I just came across it yesterday via Refinery29 and I am HOOKED. Secondly, my all-time favorite musk is Musc for Her by Narciso Rodriguez. It's absolutely lovely. I will have to check out Kiehl's musk based on your recommendation. If you're ever in Chicago, please stop by my shop, Dovetail Chicago. I'd love to meet you.

  173. my favourite is hypnotic poison, but after seeing this post i fell in love with kiehl's amber - just the perfect mix of smokey cinnamon.

yes i know it may be more of a masculine scent, but with winter coming on in australia it makes me feel like i'm wrapped up in a big blanket in front of a fire..

    just delicious!

  174. I love heavy and sweet scents. Dior's Hypnotic Poison is my favourite for winter. Or Cacharel's Lou Lou. In summer I try to wear something lighter and fresher like Kenzo Summer or Euphoria Blossom.
