Hunter boots

I have a perfectly good pair of rain boots already, but I'd secretly love a pair of Hunter Wellington boots. They're elegant, slim and tall, so they make your legs look miles long. And the Queen of England wears them. La di da! I've been trying my best to rationalize a purchase.

I love my Hunter wellies! Totally worth the hefty price tag, especially when you're tromping through spring mud puddles :)

Love love love these!

Cute and VEGAN!

The Queen wears them? Awesome! I was looking for wellies to wear on the beach when it's a little too chilly to wear sandals. These would be so perfect and cute!

LouBoo said...

They are so worth it - one of the best British purchases! I am on my second pair...not because they wore out but because I love them. I did have pale pink ones - Hunter did a special edition for breast cancer awareness, but now I have navy blue - more classic.

Laisla said...

I love my Hunter wellies too! I would never dream of going to Glastonbury festival without them or that said, any outdoor festival where there is bound to be mud.

Honestly, best $90.00 I've spent! Makes rainy days in NYC less gloomy. Go for them!!

This winter, the hunter boots were, almost, a must have in Denmark. And I am amazed by how trendy some people looked in them.

Lenore said...

A timely post! I just blogged about my own 'boot lovin' and the new pair of rubber boots I found. I don't think you need to rationalize it - you deserve to look good while you're swimming through the rain!

Canadian in London said...

And they never go out of style. Rainboots that last forever, stay stylish forever and something you can still wear on a walk in the countryside when you're 50. It's an investment - and a way to rationalise the purchase. Always think of how many times you'll wear them...

Christina said...

I love mine. After months of trying to justify buying them and attempts at saving some money to buy them first, I just bought them on a whim while on a business trip in Chicago when I was walking through Nordstrom. I am not ashamed. They are very practical.

Cristin said...

me too... have you found any on sale???

my friend and i were just drooling over an engagement photo we spotted, where the gal was wearing a pair of these in red. super adorable!

They are the only type of welly that us Brit girls would wear!

--r said...

Love mine too. Bright red (and lovely dry feet) on a grey day can perk up anyone's mood!

Christine said...

I'm always throwing an envious glance at people who are wearing them. I know a couple of people who swear by them during New York winters as well.

Desiree Fawn said...

I've definitely had these on my "wish wish wish list" for a while!

Chaucee said...

Ah, wellies. They've been on my wish list for quite some time now. But they are just so expensive for a pair of rain boots! Are they really that amazing or is it just the name? Either way I would LOVE to have a pair right now .... it's pouring down rain outside!

Alex said...

I exactly what you mean! I have been trying to rationalize the same purchase for weeks! Ever since I saw a pair of dark olive short hunter boots...(my legs are too short for the tall ones. I have a perfectly good pair of rain boots but those are too nice to pass up and I live in rainy vancouver so I'm sure they'll get a lot of wear...
As you can see I'm losing the battle and will probably end up buying them, good luck with yours!

Lindsay said...

One day I will splurge on a pair. They are timeless

Joanna I think you would l.o.v.e. a pair of these riding boots instead of rainboots. I just did a post about them a few days ago actually :)

Hi Joanna. I love my Hunter rainboots-- I have a pair in the dark green color and wear them in the rain AND in the sunshine. This past winter, I paired mine with leopard fur-trimmed socks. I have to say-- they looked really cute! I was totally smitten by the fact that they Queen of England wears them, as well. And, you're so right when you say that they make your legs look miles long! How could you stay away from something so fabulous?

I've just bought a pair of black Marc Jacobs rainboots but now I'm yearning for this beautiful pair! They are definitely gorgeous, now if it would just rain!

TheSundayBest said...

Sharon bought a pair - worth every penny. On sale here for around $70. Though I expect Hunter to contact you and offer you a pair - if they know what's good for them.

Joanna Goddard said...

i know, Chaucee, they are pricy. but they are so flattering for rainboots! the pair i have now are cute but make my feet look giant + my legs look short. so i guess you're paying for the svelte look! :)

Darling J said...

The hefty price tag can be a deterrant, but not to worry! I grabbed a pair from Overstock for $70 and a coworker of mine snagged a pair from Gilt for $70 as well! Looks like it is time for some Internet sleuthing!

Joanna Goddard said...

haha, alex, if you live in vancouver, you should have as many rain boots as you want! :)

Eli said...

I like them too...but what do you do when you walk into somewhere with your wet rubber boots? They're too cumbersome for me, but oh so cute

Beatriz said...

Hunter Wellies are on my list too!! I found a great pair of black wellies with a patent sheen to them that are fabulous, but nothing beats a pair of Hunters. I get stuck with choosing a color! I can't decide!

go ahead and justify! i finally did last summer for a trip to scotland(navy), and i wear them every time it rains because they are so comfort- jeans look great tucked it too. nan

hip hip gin gin said...

There is just something about Hunters that goes above and beyond a regular rain boot!! If you need another rationalization to get them, you really can wear them year round. They sell a special fleece insert (in matching colors no less) that makes them warmer for the winter months.

Tanya (a Taste of T) said...

I hear ya! I've been talking myself into those, then out of them for months now. I have boots...just not these :)...but in Austin, Texas do I really need more than one pair of boots? Ahhhh.

Down and Out Chic said...

i've been wanting some hunter rainboots for quite some time now. sadly enough one of my current rainboots started leaking water this past weekend so the desire for hunter's came back even stronger!

i grabbed a pair at marshalls in bright yellow for $30 well over a year ago and i still adore them! got my mom to buy them in in bright red too! possibly my best shoe purchase ever...

kavika_ali said...

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that I didn't like the Hunter's when I tried them on at Nordstrom - they felt really heavy, and much to0 big & clunky. My roommate has a pair & can't even drive in them, she has to change once she gets to the garage and then again to walk through the parking lot when she gets to work. Seems like too much effort!
I ended up buying a new pair of Kamik's - I LOVE them, though not cheap, they were less expensive, and they come in cute colors & patterns too. http://positivelyali.blogspot.com/2010/03/i-can-hear-it-pouring-down-gutter.html

Doesn't matter, though, because she's convincing me to buy these boots, even as I type this.

I waited for a long time to get mine. I just couldn't get over the price. But after a tough day at work, I gave in and I've been happy ever since. I love them. I have a pair of white ones and in fact I'm wearing them today (even though it's not raining). Plus they have a lifetime guarantee.

GO FOR IT!

Ugh! These are all made in China now. Dad's say "Made in Britain" along the front of them, but now the whole line is in China. I love the style, but can't possibly bring myself to buy such a quintessentially British product that's been outsourced.

Hollister had some nice French rainboots on her blog that I'd consider in their stead.

Giovanna said...

me too! i already have a pair of cute polka dot rainboots i got at zappos about four years ago. they are falling apart. the buckle on each side does not work. that said, i'm not sure i can justify spending 100 bucks on hunters. i want them in either green or purple though.

TheBeautyFile said...

Call me crazy, but I don't even see them as a purchase, but a necessity!! Not that I own them, but that's my rationalization for coveting them to the extent I do.

Paige said...

I could go on and on about how practical they are, especially in a pedestrian centric city like NY - but some purchases need no rationalization. You're pregnant and you need a treat. That's about all the rationalization you need! :)

Jill Turner said...

When I spotted Hunter as an upcoming boutique on Rue La La, I got so excited. I made sure to log on to the website the minute it opened, and was sadly disappointed by the selection. Not one pair of wellies! :(

Unfortunately I am still not the proud owner of a pair of Hunters, but someday soon I am going to treat myself!

I have to say I first bought mine while living in NYC. I broke down and got them after having to walk half a block down the street just to cross the street, and still got my feet wet. Got the liners to go with them for the added warmth. Since moving to CO I use them more for snow then rain with the same love. I say go for it! It is the best money I have ever spent on boots, well almost...

I think, with shipping to the U.S., the cost works out to just under $115, the same as Zappos.

Perhaps it is only me, but being 5'5 and having a size 10, the boots hit me right at the knee and are not comfortable. I was so disappointed to learn this when I tried them on as I'd been crushing hard for a long time.

They're great rubber boots! I love the green one's. Though, all you ever need is just one pair of rubbers.

abby said...

I'm a poor college student and i justified buying a pair this winter. here are some ways to justify your purchase:
1. They are year round boots, they sell different colored fleece socks to line them so they go from spring rain boots to super warm winter boots
2. you will have them till you're 90, you won't be throwing away any rubber boot/heavy snow boots because the zippers break, they start leaking, etc.
3. Quality
4. Style
seriously, buy a pair! I Love mine. I have the grey ones like you've shown!

i like, but don't love, my hunters. i live in seattle, but i really don't wear them much due to the clunkiness (although they were great in the big snowstorm a couple years ago!)

i've also noticed that dirt tends to make them kind of dull/dusty in a way that's hard to remove from the rubber. anyone else have that problem?

I could never justify it for myself, but I think you should get them if you really want a pair :) I wear my rain boots almost every single day, and I still can't pay more than $20 for a pair! I just keep them by the back door and slip them on every day when I work in the yard/garden/throw the ball for the dog. Mine are red and white polka dots, and they're "cute," but these Wellies are...pretty, I think?! Maybe it's that ridiculously beautiful model. I just went fishing all day with my husband yesterday, and I looked nothing like that :)

i couldn't live without my hunters, especially in the winter with the snow and slush! they go right up to the knee so you don't have to worry about snow or rain getting in, and they don't completelyyy ruin an outfit like uggs :)

Im with ya! I think they're one of those purchases that you just NEED at some point, so better to do it sooner than later.
I've been searching for a pair in pea green but they're sold out everywhere!

They are definitly worth the purchase! I live in Washington, DC, and they got me through our snowy winter by keeping my feet dry and warm :-) I bought mine on eBay too, so i spent less than retail.

I've scored a few pair of these for under $30 for my daughter who is in school in Seattle. I live in Phoenix - can't think of one single day I could wear them. Good for her, bad for me.

I was just saying to myself yesterday that I 'NEED' a pair of really great rain boots. Well, #1 it doesn't really rain that much here in VA, and #2 I'm not 100% sure of where I would wear them, besides out running errands on Saturday. But, nonetheless, I need them!

I have been thinking the exact same thing... I have wanted a pair of these for years. I just need to do it, because everyone really loves them! Let us know if you end up buying them!

I splurged on a pair early this year and they are totally worth it! Go for it! Pregnant moms deserve lots of goodies :)

I love my hunters! Honestly, its one of the best purchases I've ever made. Now every time it rains I get excited because I know I'll get to wear my boots...

go to poshonmain.com they are currently 40% off and they have liners as well. I love my hunters.!

I found a pair for $35 on eBay and they've been phenomenal. They came with "blooming" - but apparently that happens to every pair of Hunter's (even the brand new, in perfect shape ones). I'm headed to London at the end of June - I'm sure I'll think they're even more amazing after that.

adorable!! I wear my ones from J Crew a lot in the spring and winter... but the Queen of England comment may have just sold me on a new pair ;)

I got a pair at Costco for only $65!! However, that was in Vancouver....try checking online though! They're the best!! Very comfortable as well.

Hunter wellies are awesomeness!

Hi there...I too, have been wanting a pair, and just bought some from a British store online with free shipping.

CountryAttire
http://www.countryattire.com/categories/hunter-boots.html

They come in all colors, but I got FUCHSIA to brighten up those rainy days! The converted price came to around $80 USD, and with the free shipping, I couldn't pass them up. I've been wearing them nonstop.

I have a pair of the green ones. Watch out they get a white film on them. It drives me crazy.

I'm in the same boat as you! I've been trying to justify a purchase for some cute red or blue hunters! I should just get them!

Nikki said...

I was going to tell you to go for it, and that you wouldn't regret it. But 182 people said it first ;)

Don't rationalize! Best impulse purchase I ever made http://contrary-garden.blogspot.com/2010/03/love-hunter-wellington-boots.html

I find the hunters really heavy, Bulky and hard to walk in.

I have a pair of Kamik's. They are much lighter and have slimmer more fitted feel they also are 100% recyclable, made in Canada and totally cute and super comfortable! Much easier price to swallow as well.

i love mine! at first i couldn't understand why they were $115 and people would buy them, but now i know. theyre perfect for snow, rain, and muddy damp conditions. i made a bet with my dad that ill be wearing them in 10 years, so far, one year down, 9 to go...and i stand by it!

Stephanie said...

I love them! Now if only I lived in a rainy climate instead of a place that has sunshine 365 days of the year... ;)

Urban Outfitters makes a pair that are very similar for a fraction of the price. A hundred bucks seems like a lot for rain boots.

Hi JO :)

I've been reading you for years but finally had to leave a comment...

After seeing this post, it was the final straw and I HAD to get my own Hunters. I am just so in love with them.

What followed was a tragic situation of my ordering pair after pair and all of them being too narrow in the calves. And I'm not fat or have fat legs!

I am now convinced that the Queen's are custom made. There's no way my calves are bigger than hers.

I hope if you get yours, that they fit :)

xoxo

I just bought a pair of Navy Hunter Wellies with gold specks on them. I'd been contemplating purchasing them for years so when my husband saw I bought navy he said I'd chosen a boring color. Does anyone have any sentiments?

I think everyone should have a pair of these. Especially that now you can get them in such beautiful colours and patterns.

Such diversity coupled with necessary functionality as well as the need to make a fashion statement has made this particular type of footwear extremely popular amongst the general populace.

wow, this Bostancı Halı Yıkama is the first time that I've heard your actual Acıbadem Halı Yıkama due date - June 2nd is my birthday! Halı Yıkama Türkiye It's a good Kadıköy Halı Yıkama birthday - summer birthday parties, Erenköy Halı Yıkama halfway til Ataşehir Halı Yıkama christmas (so new toys every 6 months), and being a gemini is fun! The only downside is being Çamlıca Halı Yıkama younger Acıbadem Halı Yıkama than most of the other kids in your grade (longer wait to get a Üsküdar Halı Yıkama driver's license, legally get into bars, etc). I hope your baby ends up sharing Bostancı Halı Yıkama a birthday with me!

OMG im in exactly the same situation. I've been wanting to buy a pair for a year but $170 seems like a LOT for rain boots. And i heard that now that they're made in China, the quality sucks. For anyone who owns Hunters made in China, is this true??

LJ said...

Hey I just bought myself a pair today!! I couldnt resist they were on sale (which never happens in Canada for Hunters). I have them in Dark Olive and they are awesome. I have yet to try them out but I have to say they look absolutely perfect just around the house:)
