Home Inspiration: Decorated bookcases

All bookcases are wonderful (even the messiest!), but my jaw dropped this morning when I saw the shelves of Fitzhugh Karol and Lyndsay Caleo. They've made their bookcases a work of art by mixing in rocks, photos and a round mirror. (And a sweet toy truck!) Have you ever decorated your bookcases?

  4. I think I saved EVERY single picture of that post into my "inspiration" folder on my computer. I love the modern white and clean lines, but all the natural details. AND that they had a farmhouse sink with a skirt. So beautiful!

  5. *sigh* I have to do something with my bookcases. I think this post might be the kick in the pants I needed. Part of my problem is that I have soooo many books that it doesn't leave that much room for decorative stuff. Guess this means I have to get creative, because getting rid of any of my books is NOT an option. ;-)

I like using the decorations as bookends, mostly - but that's partially because I don't like to have too many tchotchkies lying around. Function reigns!

  27. I wish I had room to decorate my bookcases like that, but they are too full of books! I guess that's not the worst thing in the world, though. My bookcases were made by my father out of solid cherry, and someday will be a family heirloom. :)

  28. I love books and I have way too many so I tried arranging them by color, all the reds, all the blues, some standing, some on their side. but having a kid changed all that. My daughter now 2 likes to pull the books and sometimes even scribbles in them.
One day when she is older I will have a bookcase like this.

  40. Growing up with a house full of books sitting on shelves fashioned by my own father, I've seen my share of classic decorations and have even added a toy or two on my own shelves! I love the beautiful contrast of the white shelves with the accents! I especially like the round mirror! It's excellent!

i did a post the other day on some great bookends i've been seeing that would also liven up any bookcase. take a look if you'd like!
