Fig wedding cake

I'm one of the few people out there who don't like regular cake (are you, too?), so I'm always secretly psyched when people serve alternative desserts at their weddings. Brooklyn couple Rae and Noah served a carrot cake with fresh figs! What a cool (and beautiful) idea, don't you think?

See more of their wedding here.

  18. We had two kinds of cupcakes at our wedding - one type was chocolate filled with chocolate mousse and the other was vanilla filled with custard. Both had whipped cream frosting and were drizzled with chocolate ganache. They were delish!!! Cupcakes are wonderful and cute and a cheaper alternative, too!

Here, I just want the figs. mmmm!

  19. I'm right there with ya Joanna. I'm not a cake person. The frosting makes me sorta gag. But my man loves cake, so I'm not sure what we'll do for our future wedding. Is it okay to have a bride non-cake and a groom cake? ;) xo

  22. I'm not a big cake fan either, but we did have two different kinds of pound cake at our wedding. I really wanted pound cake since the women before me in my family also had it too. My husband and I have a giant fig tree in our backyard and I'm planning on making preserves again this year, but I think I'll have to make this cake too! Thanks for the inspiration!

  57. i am SO on your page dear. I reaLLy don't like regular cake either. This cake is so beautifuL! I once went to a wedding where the bride asked her closest friends, aunts, and inlaws to bake a homemade cake of their choice. Each cake was put on cake stand in the center of each table as a centerpiece. The guests mingled around swapping pieces of cheesecake, carrot cake, german chocolate cake, etc. . . . it was such a good mixer and WHO doesn't love and appreciate homemade cake?

  58. it does look gorgeous! though, I have to admit, I've never actually tried a fig. sure, I've had fig newtons, but I'm pretty sure that's not the same! ha! I really need to get my hands on some fresh figs...

p.s. I'm not a big cake lover either... mostly because I am not a huge fan of thick, sugary frosting. now, the actual cake part, I'm all for!

  62. I'm not a big fan of standard cake myself. We had carrot cake at our wedding and I was PSYCHED when we pulled the little top part out of the freezer on our first anniversary - so, so good.

I'm always excited to see what my husband comes up with in lieu of birthday cakes for me. His dessert-making ability has really sky-rockected.

  73. Very pretty cake.

As a vegan in my friends´ weddings they were very polite and had me my own wedding cake, consisting or fresh raspberries and coconut milk, the best wedding cake I ever had. A fun option was also in my cousin´s weddings in an old castle, where I got pancakes, very happy also about that!

It is beautiful where ever I look here. Hello and congratulations with the little one!

  86. I feel the same way. I don't like cake. I much prefer a fruit tart or creme brulee. I did, however, make some delicious coconut cupcakes this weekend with cream cheese frosting from Ina Garten's cookbook. They were delicious, but they were mostly butter so how could they not be?

  87. Oh, thank you for sharing! I'm in the midst of wedding planning, and both my fiance and I are NOT cake lovers, and can't imagine spending hundreds of dollars on one dessert we don't even like! We're planning on doing a buffet of family recipes - pies, cookies, cheesecake, etc - and some of our favorite candies in apothecary jars :) I love to see that others are thinking out of the [cake] box, too!

As always, thanks for the inspiration, Joanna!

  94. Oh, I sympathize. Omegle My husband and I were working for the same company Omegle Sohbet when I was pregnant, and I can't count how many times I hauled him out of his office out to the parking Omegle Chat lot so I could have a meltdown. (because of course I couldn't do it alone, I had to have a witness and then a hug after...)
I'd much rather have Omegle that than a huge diamond! So much classier. Graham Cluley, omegle a researcher at security firm Sophos, told BBC News that Twitter needs "much tighter control" over what users can put in a tweet to prevent similar problems in the future.
