My dad is obsessed with all things Iceland, and the country really does feel magical. This teeny house is perched on a cliff on Elliðaey, a southern island in Iceland. How amazing does it look? I'd love to ride a bike down that hill or lie in the grass at midnight.P.S. Would you be brave enough to walk around the very edge?
P.P.S. More travel fantasies...

YES PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to Iceland in June!! I can't wait... it's been on my travel list for many, many years. These images take my breath away.
ReplyDeletewow that's pretty amazing. i think i'd be a little scared though... and can you imagine trying to keep the little ones away from the edge! i'd be permanently stressed out. haha. beautiful though.
ReplyDelete-angela
oh my goodness, jane, you're going to have an amazing time!
ReplyDeleteI desperately want to go to iceland. We may stop over when we end up going to Paris. What a trip that will be.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's beautiful there. It almost doesn't seem real.
ReplyDeleteThat big hill makes me want to roll down it! lol
Oh my gosh.. is this even real? How magical!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love your ongoing Travel Fantasies!
ReplyDeleteI used to live there for 2 years. That country is beautiful. I miss it so much.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is breathtaking... I would soooo walk the edge!!
ReplyDeletehttp://minivanlife.wordpress.com
that's absolutely incredible! and i'm sure that location costs a pretty penny :)
ReplyDeletehttp://chasinglouboutin.wordpress.com
nope I would not be brave enough for that, I think I would be too scared to even live there! But it is absolutely incredible!
ReplyDeletethat house is pretty much amazing, to the tenth power. :]
ReplyDeleteI read Ireland... which it does not look unlike! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing! But walk to the edge - not me!
ReplyDeleteI've been daydreaming about Iceland, lately. I've been listening to a lot of Bjork and Sigur Ros, and now I'm wishing I was in one of those little homes!
ReplyDeleteIceland is at the top of my travel list. That house looks so lonely and eerily beautiful at the same time.
ReplyDeleteOh I know I would walk as close to the edge as possible! Ha, ha- especially if I lived there, what else would I do. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAmazing~ wonder if they get tv cable there???
ReplyDeletethat is bjork's house in iceland.
ReplyDeletei could NEVER walk along that edge! I am terrified of heights and, more specifically, falling. But I absolutely want to visit Iceland at some point. I had a friend who visited and said it was a really fun city.
ReplyDeleteThat's Bjork's house! She got it as a present from Iceland!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youmightfindyourself.com/post/386682203/this-house-is-located-on-an-island-called-elli-aey
That house is amazing! There is a house like, a couple hours west of Seattle, where the family is an innkeeper of a nature reserve. Perhaps this is the same situation?
ReplyDeleteteatoastblog.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteWOW - talk about breathtaking. These images are amazing.
ReplyDeleteoh my god. when can i move in?!

Last Christmas I had the good fortune of being stuck on the tarmack with the wife of the Icelandic Ambassador to the U.S. who told me about how on new years in Iceland everyone has wonderful bonefires down by the beach in the snow. Since then I have been dying to spend a new years there.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I don't know if there is a word for how spectacular this is! My goodness gracious. I'm in love.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those pictures! They look almost fake, but I know they're not. I guess they must have been taken out of an airplane or helicopter!
ReplyDeleteOMG. That house has the kind of aspect I like. DESERTED.
ReplyDeleteReally want to go to Iceland, nearly accidentally went at the wrong time of year. (December! Darkness! That would suck.) Really want to check out the lagoons you can bathe in, with natural thermal waters.... *drifts off into daydream...*
this place looks so magical, i hope to one day visit iceland too. i loved the anthony bourdain episode when he went to iceland!
ReplyDeletewow.. that is insanely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing but I would never be brave enough to stand at the edge!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Sweden post of an ice hotel wedding!

My mother fly fishes in Iceland three weeks each year. She brings back the most beautiful photos. And the Icelandic ponies are like something out of a fairytale.
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome. I want to go to Iceland now!!!

Oh....this is my weakness. I call it travel porn (I know, it's crude, but that's how it feels) I could look at travel ideas all day. My problem is that I can't decide where to go because I am so overwhelmed with all the amazing possibilities! Yes I would walk the edge. I also think it would be fun to fly a kite on this little island....
ReplyDeleteP.S. I am currently obsessed with Dunton Hot Springs, thanks to your post about it!
T
all i can say is we went to iceland for our honeymoon, and well, it was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the house in the movie "Up." What a sweet and sad movie!
ReplyDeleteOhh I am dying to go to Iceland, and that house is just so unbelievable! Thanks for sharing. When we begin planning I will remember this post.
ReplyDeleteAnd pizza cones? hmmm ... please let us know what you think!
Whoa. This is TOO cool. I think I would definitely walk around the edge, but I would be too chicken to ride my bike down that giant hill! This could possibly be one of the greatest romantic getaways...
ReplyDeleteI have never seen anything like this. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy husband writes children's books and is working on a triology about Norse mythology for young adults. I promised him a trip to Iceland when he's finished!
ReplyDeletewhat a strange and fascinating place for a house! I'd love to visit, but I'm not so sure about walking around the edge! scary :)
ReplyDeleteIceland is in the top three of places I want to travel to. It seems like such a cool place. And living in Denmark I guess I have no excuse not tog o since it's so close.
ReplyDeleteI want to go to there...
ReplyDelete-tina fey
Amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteI saw this last week somewhere on the blogsphere and it blew me away. Amazing view.
ReplyDeleteI went to Iceland a few years back, on my way to Paris (check out Iceland Air's deals!). We only went to Reykjavik for a weekend but it was lovely and I want to go back. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it. Your dad's obsession is well-warranted!
ReplyDeleteThat house is craaazy amazing! It looks surreal and reminds me of the house on the cliff from the movie "UP."
ReplyDeletewww.meganlimjewelry.blogspot.com
I would like to purchase that place STAT! Wow... it is so beautiful! The country of Iceland is quite magical, unlike anywhere I have ever been before. That place seems like the ultimate getaway!
ReplyDeleteLOVE those photos, they're amazing! i'd love to go to iceland some day.
ReplyDeleteThe ultimate introvert
ReplyDeletethat is the best thing i've ever seen!!
ReplyDeleteI think walking around ... along the edge would be mighty scary but really fun too! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! I'm totally tantalized! And as a rock climber, I must say I would like to do much more than just *walk* around the edge!
ReplyDeleteI would love to explore every square inch of that little slice of heaven. Love love love.
Everyone I know who has been to Iceland *loved* it. I even have a friend who moved there because he said that it was the only place in the world where he didn't have allergies!
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous, I would love to go there someday. If only!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this =)
wow thats amazing
ReplyDeleteI can't even believe this!! Unreal.

ReplyDeleteoh i love iceland.. ! so pretty soo soo pretty
ReplyDeleteJane, I'll be there for the month of June too for an artist residency. It will be my first time there. I would love to see this place. I hope you have fun!
ReplyDeleteEeeep! I'm getting married in Iceland in June - so excited to see you post about the country! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a little converted farmhouse on the west coast of Iceland called Hotel Budir. My fiance and I have rented out the entire place for 50 of our closest family and friends and can't think of a better place to recite our vows than at the foot of a volcano!
Thanks for the pictures, they're just lush!!!!
I hear that the Icelandic language is the hardest language to learn in the world.
ReplyDeleteIs this true?
Absolutely stunning! I would love to toboggan down that hill... oh, wait, on second thought... ;)
ReplyDeleteIt must be nice for a holiday. I'd get bored after a while though, there's only so much you can do there probably...
ReplyDeletei would be afraid to fall in sea while riding the bike
ReplyDeletewow!! That was so cool! I could live there, be a writer, and never see at the clock. A whole new idea of life came up in my head just seeing this picture. :)
ReplyDeletewow that is crazy looking! What a magical escape that would be.
ReplyDeleteWow, just wow! I would be so happy to live there.
ReplyDeletechristina, how amazing!!!
ReplyDeletewe went to iceland last august and my then-boyfriend proposed to me on a similarly tiny, craggy island, in a tent, in the midst of 60 mph winds. it was pretty amazing. the country is shockingly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is so crazy having a house like that. Being a nEw Yroker and not having any space, that house is like a dream.
ReplyDeleteSadie at heyMamas
wauw, amazing! I've got a little fear of hights, so wouldn't be my favorite save place to live, but the sight must be lovely!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend and I went to Iceland last year. We hired a car and spent 10 days travelling round staying in a different place every night. Amazing place and best holiday ever. Go now...
ReplyDeleteBy the way, we stayed here:
ReplyDeletehttp://cottages.is/
Amazing views.
Thanks Joanna!! We are beside ourselves with excitement!!! :) :)
ReplyDeleteThat picture is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThose photos are blowing my mind! It's really amazing, but also a little scary. Can probably get pretty lonely.
ReplyDeletei think a good old-fashioned roll down the hill would be incredibly fun (and possibly painful).
ReplyDeleteAstounding! I'd love to live in that house.
ReplyDeleteWith the land forming that parabolic shape, the satellite TV reception should be good too...
WOW WOW WOW
ReplyDeleteIm ready to move in there for a month with a big stack of books!
i just got an insatiable urge to go there. i need to. i have to. it's so amazing, i would love to just lay on the top of that hill and just... look.
ReplyDeleteI flew Iceland Air to Paris in November! I wish I could have seen more of the lovely country on my layover.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love tiny houses. This one is an absolute dreamscape for me. It looks so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go there!
ReplyDeletethe perfect escape...so dramatic!
ReplyDeletethis is pretty amazing. I don't think I would be to walk around the edge, yet alone ride my bike around. I am way to clumsy and would be scared of falling :(
ReplyDeleteP.s. you have such a lovely blog/I just started following.
Wow, that's pretty amazing looking! That hill would be peeeerrrrfect for iceblocking! lol
ReplyDeleteOMG now that's just the craziest thing I've ever seen!!!
ReplyDeleteeeeeek I'd be so terrified to live there...lovely as it is...talk about no reception.

This house is a hunting cabin... its for hunters that go to catch puffin and other birds... there are a lot of small islands around Vestmannaeyjar where this island is...
ReplyDeleteAnd i would not reccomend bike riding down that hill.. the slope is very uneven because there are thousand of puffin holes in that hill

I recommend all those interested in Iceland to read The Tricking of Freya by Christina Sunley. It's a great novel and features a lot of Icelandic history and culture.
