Street-style inspiration: Tie Dye

Tie dye is everywhere these days, and I love it, don't you? Model Anouck Lepere looks so cute in this dress, and Shabd hand-dyes her adorable tights and leggings in Brooklyn.
P.S. Thank you for all the sweet comments yesterday! xo

  2. Yuck, I hate tie-dye. I gave it up along with the Grateful Dead and DMB in college. And I think these examples are kind of old-lady-ish, but maybe that's me.

  3. It is a pretty easy DIY project, too. My friends and I used to spend hours "customizing" our clothes, tie dye-style.

  4. I think tie dye has gotten much prettier through the years. The dress is fab!

  11. i rather like this 'paint stroke' version of the tie dye look. it looks richer and more like a graphic print than a DIY job.

  12. I'm not in love with these, but maybe that comes from being a wannabe hippie in middle school. Or maybe the shirt just needs a belt...

  13. lucas, i feel the exact same way!

  19. i've actually been having thoughts of tie-dying with bleach...hear me out on this one. i have a couple shirts that i love the fit/style of, but have tiny little bleach stains. so i was thinking...tie 'em up and bleach them! i think this is inspiring me to try it out.

  20. These are the kinds of images I think about hours after I see them. I want a light, flowy tie dyed number but have had trouble finding one.

Congratulations on the wee baby boy. I was so happy fr you when I read it that I had to remind myself that I don't really know you. Hope your pregnancy goes well!

ps my husband "turbo" commented and I think that is the most awesome thing ever.

  21. I love both of these looks! Tie dye so often looks dated, but these leggings and Anouk's draped shirt are super cute and modern!

  22. what a great shape! so easy & ethereal. i love it. i used to be so anti- tie dye, but i think i might be coming around.

  23. I love the leggings. I think my ex-hippy momma would be gloating though, as when I was in junior high I was WAY too hip to like any of her tie-dye stuff she wanted me to wear. WAY too hip. Oh how that comes back to bite us in the ass.

I've been wanting to tie-dye some sheets for a while. A fun surprise under a white duvet.

  25. I love the name Anouck! I first heard it as the little girl's name in the movie "Chocolat." It just sounds so exotic and lovely.

  27. LOVE, love, love the tie die. Can you feel my enthusiasm? It just feels to fresh to me right now - which I realize sounds silly because it's also quite outdated. All those beautiful colors swirling together just makes me feel happy.

PS. Congrats on the wonderful news of your growing little boy. So happy for you. Enjoy this oh so special time.

  28. These two pieces are gorgeous because they are untraditional tie dye, and have a great floral quality to them! Congrats on your happy new yesterday!! - Natalya of Wear Necessities

  31. oh, I love Shabd's work! I got to take a tie-dye workshop with her at Lena Corwin's, which was SO much fun. I love how tie-dye has been reinvented in a modern way so it doesn't look like the Grateful Dead shirts from my high school past (though I have nothing against the Dead, still love me some Scarlet Begonias.)

Joanna, congrats on the news of the baby boy! so exciting! hope you share peeks at what your nursery will look like.
