Blue Hill Stone Barns

I'm finishing my work early today because I have unusually exciting plans tonight! My good friend Jason is taking me to an early birthday dinner at Blue Hill Stone Barns. It's half an hour north of Manhattan, and the restaurant is part of a working farm. Hopefully we will see some cute goats and cows!

The restaurant has a changing menu, which features the best of their produce and meat every month. January's line up is: American paddlefish caviar, Arugula, Baby lamb, Brook trout, Brussels sprouts, Burdock root, Celery root, Chestnuts, Claytonia, Farm eggs, Firecracker, Focea lettuce. (I have no idea what Firecracker and Clytonia are, but I'm psyched to try them!)

Have a great night, my lovelies. xoxo Update: It was amazing. I did not eat the baby lamb.

Baby Fever x 1000

This video shows nine-month-old Charles Edward playing in the living room for four hours, but it's sped up to two minutes. (Also, the adult interaction was edited out for cuteness sake.) Ooooh, so sweet, my head is going to explode!

Wedding Kisses

I've been thinking a lot about wedding kisses recently. Can you do a big kiss? Or should you keep it small and grandparent-friendly? Here are a few lovely wedding-kiss moments.

On the heels of House & Garden and Blueprint, Domino is folding, according to today's WWD. The March issue will be the last. The hearts of design bloggers everywhere are breaking. We will miss you!

P.S. I've featured so many posts about the fabulous magazine, as have so many bloggers...
P.P.S. The LA Times feels our pain...

Genius Photo Decor

Last week, Katie from Color Me Katie decided to cut up some family photos and stick them around her apartment. How funny is that? I love how her boyfriend braves the fridge, while she dives into the sugar!

(P.S. Remember Katie's genius dancing video and bearded boyfriend?)

Wedding Inspiration: Vintage Dress

When Jen and Patrick got married in Los Angeles, she wore a vintage wedding dress. Isn't it beautiful?

The bride and groom chose to see each other before the ceremony, so they could say a romantic hello.

They had an unscripted outdoor ceremony, and their dads officiated.

Their dads pronounced them husband and wife in unison...

And they kissed.

Congratulations to the happy couple! See more photos on Smitten...

Ready, Set, Go!

This might be the most random post ever on Cup of Jo, but the photos keep making me laugh, so I figured I'd share them. When we went to Los Angeles for the holidays, Alex and I raced on the beach. Alex used to be a sprinter in school, so he was really intense! I couldn't stop laughing, which, a hem, slowed me down.

Alex says, "I had thought I could run backwards and beat you, since you have a cross-country runner's body, but then you were surprisingly fast, so I had to turn on the jets. That's why I'm hoofing it." Oh my goodness, his expression makes me laugh!

Have a dreamy weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend, my lovelies! What are you up to? Alex and I are having a few friends over tonight for spicy chili and then inevitably wishing we had a dishwasher. Here are a few great posts from around the web this week...

Erin is looking for a cover girl! Could you be that girl?

The cutest car ever. (Even it's name is cute.)

Pretty gift tags.

Wallpaper = thumbs up.

Can you spot the dude in this library?

A rad growth chart for kids!

Loving these bags.

Blue eyes, via Lindsay.

Kate's desk (and poster) are beautiful!

Jazz album covers make me want to listen to jazz.

Shhhh....Quiet corners of people's homes.

I love this blog's warmth and honesty.

Yikes! Watch out for the polar bear!

Don't you love these vintage grandma photos?

And, most of all, Nie Nie is posting again. Welcome back. We love you.

Steven Alan's spring preview

Steven Alan just released his spring preview, and my heart is all a flutter. I love the all-American flannel and playful shapes. P.S. The model wants to make me get another haircut.

Found! A handy trick to figuring out if a guy is too old for you.

My random TV crush...The Dog Whisperer.

How old were you when you lost your virginity?

What do you eat (or not eat) on first dates?

Three sexy swimsuits.

Do you have baby fever? (I do.)

Which kind of dog should the Obama family get?

Stinky cheese and wine

Our friends recently brought over the amazingly stinky Langres cheese. It was creamy, strong and absolutely delicious. (Apparently, you're supposed to pour Champagne over it, but we're not that fancy.) I'd highly recommend scouting it out at your local cheese shop!

The Obamas' First Dance

Michelle and Barack Obama seem so in love. This video of their first dance makes my heart swell.

Still loving all the love photos on Le Love.

Wednesday Giveaway!

Today's giveaway is from Jessica, a jewelry designer in Chicago, who is giving away a beautiful Lucky in Bed necklace. The necklace features a fortune cookie and plays on the funny tradition of adding "in bed" after any fortune cookie message.

For a chance to win, check out Jessica's shop and leave a comment below. A winner will be chosen at random tomorrow afternoon. Good luck. xo

Charlotte Elizabeth is our winner. Thank you for playing!

Wedding Inspiration

For their save-the-date, this couple photographed themselves lying on grass, printed their wedding date on the suitcase, and sent out the photo as postcards.

Then they made adorable signs of themselves, leading the way to the ceremony. How cute is that? See more on Smitten...

Flashback: My Dad

I've talked about my dad's job as a spy, work photos, and quirky phone habits. Well, this morning, my aunt sent over these photos from when my dad was little. She says she got his duffle coat and knitted swim trunks as hand-me-downs, and they itched like crazy!

Chloe

If I could only wear one designer, I'd choose Chloe*. The spring collection, which was developed by Hannah MacGibbon, a 38-year-old British designer, has such stunning colors and shapes. (* I own absolutely nothing by Chloe.)

What about you?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Have a wonderful weekend, my lovelies! This evening, Alex and I are going on a weekend getaway to Miami, as an early present for my 30th birthday. I'm so excited to sit in the sun with him.

I'm not usually draw to yellow or red. But together, they're inspiring.

A pretty coat. Lovely dresses. Nice shoes.

Hungry eagles, and sweet brass birds.

I like this New York apartment, via I Heart You.

I like these Danish bike helmets, and Michael found these nice American ones.

Little kids get all the good bedrooms.

Early morning photos.

This was Alex and my first date movie.

Just do it!

Happy Inauguration Weekend!

LOVING this new stamp from Kiosk. Go, Obama!

Your very own bike lane

What to do if there's no bike lane? Bring one with you! The LightLane shines in the shape of a bike lane, so cars can clearly where you're riding. Genius.

Feeling Smitten...

My dears, here's a weekly round-up from Smitten, my Glamour Magazine relationships blog...

Would you rather date a much younger or much older guy? (Think: George Clooney or Michael Cera.)

A snowy winter wedding.

How do you and your man sleep in bed? (Cuddling? Spooning? Separately?)

Do you give your ex's stuff back after breaking up?

A reader's horribly awkward sexual experience: "My guy ended up in my roommate's bed."

Getting to know you: Who do you live with?

Who makes more money: you or your man?

True reader confession: "I hint to my boyfriend that I want to get married."

A very sexy road trip.

Genius wedding idea: A yellow dress + city hall.

Four engagement rings that won't break the bank. Which would you choose?

Fill in this sentence: "I love you more than..."

Cheap date idea: Cheese night!

A perfect guide to Portland. (Thank you, Chelsea)

As always, find much more on Smitten. Thank you. xoxo

House Inspiration: Red Doors

I gasped when I saw this room. How gorgeous are the black floors, mismatched chairs and trusty bicycle? The room looks so lived in and welcoming. And what a brilliant idea to paint the interior doors red. I never would have thought of that!

Wednesday Giveaway!

Animal photographer Sharon Montrose is giving away this ridiculously adorable baby deer notepad, which she made with PicPads. How cute would it be to write your grocery list next to the little fawn?

For a chance to win, visit Sharon's etsy site and leave a comment below. A winner will be chosen at random tomorrow. Good luck! xo

Update: Hmstrjam from Small Expectations is our lucky winner. Thanks for playing.

Lindsay's Freckles

This is kind of random, but speaking of freckles, do you remember these Vanity Fair photos from 2005? I like that you can see all of Lindsay's teeny freckles. So real and beautiful!

(Photos by Mario Testino for Vanity Fair)

Freckle Specs

How funny are these freckle specs? They have rubies inside vintage frames, which make it look like you have a spray of freckles across your cheeks.

Tina Fey rules

During her Golden Globe acceptance speece, Tina Fey called out her internet haters. Hilarious. Everyone gets cranky comments sometimes. I used to get sad about it, but my mom made me feel better. And I've realized that it's just part of blogging. If critics are to be believed, I'm annoyingly chipper and my marriage will last five years tops, Courtney is self-centered, my other blog friend needs to pluck her eyebrows, and Kate Miss is an idiot for not liking one of the Jenny Lewis songs. C'est la vie.

Have you ever gotten a salty blog comment?

(Video via I Heart You)

Wedding hair

Hmmm, this hairstyle might be pretty for a wedding. What do you think? I love the braid, but is it too messy?
P.S. The dress.

Ship coasters...

...would be a nice place to put down a gin and tonic.

Home Inspiration: Comfortable Living Room

Yesterday, we had a few friends over to play games, order pizza and watch a documentary about cocaine in Miami. (Cheery!) As everyone piled into our living room, I thought about how a living space should be warm and comfortable and inviting, above all else. Warm throws, oversized chairs, soft pillows....As an inspiration, this room above looks especially nice, don't you think?

How to dress like a French woman

Curious about how to dress like a French woman, I turned to Garance Dore, the ridiculously amazing Parisian street-style photographer. If anyone would know the answer, she would!

Me: Do French women wear lots of stripes? That’s how it is in the movies...
Garance: I stand witness straight from my armoire, and I've got my hands on: three short-sleeved striped shirts, two long-sleeved striped shirts, two round-necked striped pullovers, and one striped cardigan...

Do French women wear lots of layers? They seem to...
The French woman does “unconscious layering.” (I just made up that expression, because the French woman loves to use English phrases to sound cool.) It comes from the very popular concept called ‘$@&!-I-don’t-have-anything-to-wear-this-morning-i’ll-just-grab-whatever...' But when dressing up, she never forgets the sexy detail, even if she’s a bit disorganized. So there goes the (too) short skirt, the tee that falls off a shoulder, etc...

Here in New York, people wear lots of patterns and prints. But it seems like French women wear mostly solid colors, is that true?
Yeah. That’s right. The French wear mostly black, but we’re known to mix it up a bit. Like for special occasions, we’ll even wear grey. Ha! But overall, Joanna, the mystery behind the French woman is that she has confidence in herself, despite all the nonsense she says.

Read the rest of the conversation on Garance's blog. Thank you, Garance!

Hello, Zooey.

Ooh, look! Zooey Deschanel is on the cover of the new Domino. Aren't you excited to peek inside her house? Also, I like her tights.

Feeling Smitten...

My dears, here's a weekly round-up from Smitten, my Glamour Magazine relationships blog...

Would you take a year off dating?

An INSANELY amazing kissing trick.

Confession: I'm a lame girlfriend in the winter.

What do you think of the new J. Crew wedding dresses?

Motherhood do or don't: Letting your kids sleep in your bed.

Do you get along with your siblings?

Rock-paper-scissors wedding vows.

Reader's dilemma: "Help! I'm desperately in love with my best guy friend."

Would you be brave enough to ride the subway in your undies?

Would you ever go on a vacation alone?

Would you rather be hilariously funny or drop-dead gorgeous?

What men really think about women waxing.

Should a guy pay for the first date?

The secret to happiness is to continually fall in love. What are you in love with?

And I found my wedding dress over the holidays!

Find much more on Smitten, as always. Thank you so much. xoxo

Portland

Haven't you found that there are certain cities that everyone's obsessed with? Think: Paris, San Francisco, Montreal and Portland. People rave about them all. (Budget Travel magazine even wrote an article called "Portland, Oregon: Can a Place Be Too Perfect?" Their answer was no.)

What other cities do you love? xo

French Style

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to dress like a French woman. But how exactly do French women achieve their gorgeous style?

Long hair seems French...

Maybe gray wool layers are French...

Black boots and dark leggings...

Neutral colors...lots of layers...and, of course, a scarf!

Our Engagement Photos

During our Christmas trip, Alex and I were incredibly lucky to meet photographer Max Wanger and his beautiful girlfriend Margaux in Los Angeles. We played in a park, with a giant pink balloon, and, somewhat bizarrely, on a trampoline at musician Mark Mothersbaugh's house. (Their friend was housesitting for him.) Max just sent us the photos, and we are absolutely thrilled; I have probably looked through them a thousand times. See many more on Max's website. Thank you so much, Max!

P.S. Plus, the photos that first made us fall in love with Max on Smitten.

New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year!!! Are you making New Year's Resolutions?

Mine = Dress like a French woman. Read good books in bed. Make soups on Sunday nights. Try not to be too neurotic about work. Kiss Alex ten times a day. Get over my fear of subways. Write thank-you notes. Take morning walks.
