My sister has a Rhodesian ridgeback! Too adorable!
ReplyDeleteEvan and I once had brunch at the Blue Water Grill in Union Square, and sat next to a couple with two Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies.
ReplyDeleteThey've been Evan's favorite dogs ever since!
So darn cute!
GREAT list!
ReplyDeleteThis guide just put a huge smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteThanks!

What a very nice guide. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteJoanna, do you know if they are still giving the boat tours in January? That would be such a lovely birthday event!
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeletegreat round-up! just what i needed. : )
ReplyDeleteI do vote for the puppy. Our neighbours have a Ridgeback and she is a wonderful dog!
ReplyDeletethanks for this! i've been really struggling with what to get my hubby this year. those whiskey stones are GENIUS!
ReplyDelete(and that bit about cooing over a puppy cracked me up - i could almost hear it in my husband's voice, he wants a dog so bad)
Ok- I was talking about these whiskey stones last night at a party. After I got done explaining how cool they seem, especially for Portlanders who adore whiskey and bourbon so much, the host said "So, you want to buy a rock." It made me laugh- but I still think it seems like a good idea!
ReplyDeletekaren, i think they only give them in the summer -- but you could always buy two tickets and put a bow on them! :)
ReplyDeletejenny, that's hilarious :)
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas..I was having so much trouble..I wanted an inexpensive, but nice gift and love the candles and the boat tour too ahhh..you really got me out of a pickle :-)
ReplyDeleteWhiskey stones seem like a perfect gift idea for my hubby. Thanks! And I'm loving those adorable calling cards for me. Too cute.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh! such cute picks!! those whiskey stones are blowing my mind-- i might have to pick up a few for my guy friends!
ReplyDelete& the great gatsby boat tour, i would like that on my wish list! um yes please!
: )xoxo
a cashmere cap ~~
ReplyDeletethanks for the awesome idea Joanna!!
xoxo Laura
Nice list! I would love to read about all your puppy stories if you get one! Though I have to say try petfinder.com for a homeless little guy. You can search by breed.
ReplyDeleteMy guy is very into the new Momofuku cookbook and Bill Simmon's new sports book for anyone out there searching for ideas!
What a great list! No if only I had a man in my life... LOL! :)
ReplyDeletebrilliant list - thanks Joanna! (fun having a husband to buy for, isn't it?)
ReplyDeletejoanna, it's so fun to see the progression of this specific guide over the past few years. . . boyfriend, fiance, HUSBAND. love these gift ideas, esp. the gatsby boat tour.
ReplyDeleteThe custom notecards/calling cards and The Great Gatsby boat tour are amazing. Love this guide! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ideas! Those whiskey stones are great!
ReplyDeleteThese are the BEST presents ever! Love the massage candle. What a great list!
ReplyDeleteI still have a crush on Jamie Oliver and I've been married for almost 6 years. Le Sigh. I do love the candles that turn into massage oil... for myself.
ReplyDeletewhat a PERFECT gift guide, joanna! you just gave me so many great ideas for my guy! i love the notecards and the boilerplate idea. and those whiskey stones are genius! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI would recommend finding a Ridgeback Rescue Organization so that a needy pup gets the gift of a good home for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThe custom note cards are too cute. Maybe it'd get him writing more love notes to me! :)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness... a puppy! yes, please. this is a wonderful plan.
ReplyDeleteOh, those whiskey stones are genius!
ReplyDeletegreat gift guide! i've been struggling what to get my dad for quite some time now and those whiskey stones are the perfect gift! thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteThe puppy is so cute! I've seen rhodesian ridgebacks (not purebred) but still adorable, at petfinder.com. Those little guys are always so grateful to get a new forever home.
ReplyDeleteAw, I ordered those whiskey stones for my boyfriend this past weekend!
ReplyDeleteBut a dog would be the best present of all. Ohhhh, I wish! But a bit impossible at the moment...
alicia, haha, i know! it was a secret thrill to write "husband" on this gift guide :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent suggestions all. But as a Rhodesian Ridgeback fan & knowing many...as Alex no doubts know: absolutely not in an apt. Good Lord. Even at my weight, I could saddle one up & go for a DC tour. (They are great with kids, though. Although one in particular is terrified of cats as one of mine put him in his place early in life. Just to get things straight:)
ReplyDeleteGet him the dog - how fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteYou just gave me 3 KILLER ideas for the 3 hardest people to shop for in my life. Hubby, bro and dad. Thank you!!! Again.
ReplyDeleteThat dog would be some serious competition for attention! Sounds like the puppy would be getting the bedtime stories instead :-)
ReplyDeleteJust bought the whiskey stones--thanks for the tip! Finally, ONE gift down for my impossible fiance...
ReplyDeleteWhew, ridgeback puppies are a handful! Balls of energy do not even begin to describe them! I've been trying to talk my husband into getting a rescue ridgeback who's 3+ years old to keep our ridgeback Lucy company. They are the biggest lap dogs you'll ever see. So sweet, and affectionate-they do love to run (and run) and play. The lack of yard is the only thing stopping us from getting a second!
ReplyDeletelet me tell you that getting the dog DOES NOT make the cooing go away. after 8.5 years, my hubby is still head-over-heels in love with our dog (as am i)! about 10 times a day he asks me "how freaking cute is she?" and the reality is, she's pretty freaking cute!
ReplyDeletejamie oliver is one of my all-time major food crushes...saw him on martha lats week cooking from this book. everything looked delish, as always! hope santa brings this one for me!!! ;)
I am so excited about the Whiskey stones. Those are absolutely perfect for my sweatpea...thanks for the wonderful ideas!
ReplyDeleteThat massage candle is SO intriguing.
ReplyDelete"A rhodesian ridgeback puppy, since he recently spent an hour googling them and cooing, "Oh, you're just a dog. You're just a sweet dog, aren't you?""
ReplyDeletecutest thing i've heard all day!
Ridgeback's are not for people who cannot give the dog serious exercise. I am an ultra-marathoner and I have three Ridgeback's. Even after 60 miles they're still ready to go.
ReplyDeletePlease, city-dwellers, do the dog a favor and don't adopt one unless you are a serious runner.
Oh I love this, especially the calling cards - I have a bearded, bespectacled boy too {as you can see! ;)} so am sorely tempted...
ReplyDeleteLoving your gift guides Jo - very unusual and lovely!
abigail@abigail*ryan
or you could send him over to www.bettybakeblog.com for some super cool recipes :)
ReplyDeleteoops i mean www.bettybakeblog.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThe Boilerplate book is not a graphic novel, but a lavishly illustrated (350 images) coffee-table history hardback. This story of a Victorian robot is co-authored by a female and includes issues from the period such as women's voting rights. So, it's not JUST for your husband, you'll enjoy it too!
ReplyDeleteI just bought the stones for my husband. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for recommending Boilerplate!! I got it as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend because he still has a rather boy-like obsession with robots. We just exchanged gifts (a little early because we won't be together over the holidays) and he was SO excited about it he practically started reading it immediately after opening it - he could have cared less about the rest of gifts (J.Crew, mind you) or whether I liked my gifts... But that was fine by me because he loved it! I'm sooooo happy I came across it on your blog!
ReplyDeleteJoanna -
ReplyDeleteI love the list.
But please let me suggest that before you get your boyfriend (or anyone) a puppy, you should consult with them first and see if they're ready for the responsibility.
And maybe consider adopting a pet from a shelter before finding one from a breeder or a store.
(Getting a dog was a fantastic idea for my boyfriend and I, but we spent a lot of time talking about it first and now spend a lot of our time taking care of it).
LOVE the custom notecards/calling cards. Such a novel gift idea! Thanks for all of the gift guides...you find some amazing things.
ReplyDeletei am getting my boyfriend whiskey stones for valentine's. so perfect. thank you! xo.
ReplyDeleteКлассный фильм на кинозоуне.

Curious- how do you give the boat tour as a Christmas gift? I'd like to get that for my parents but I went to the website and it doesn't look like they sell gift certificates. I sent them an email to find out.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
