Marshmallow willpower

Have you ever heard of the psychology experiment about willpower, where a professor would give one marshmallow to a child and tell them that if they waited to eat it until he got back, they could have two? The New Yorker ran a great story about it, and now this hilarious video shows kids having the same struggles. Oh, the temptation!

  18. I saw another video of this once where a little girl would put the marshmallow in her mouth, then spit it out and put it back on the plate. At first, it looked fine, but eventually, it turned into a gooey blob and she started to get nervous.

Too cute. And I agree, the ones who mime eating are my favorites!

  53. My children are go (and went) to the local university for preschool. The students that attend the school sometimes participate in research and I got to see my 3 year old doing this first hand. We stepped out of the room and he had to wait by himself for 5 minutes before he could eat his M&M's. An eternity for a 3 year old. He couldn't make it the whole time so he rang the bell for us to come back early. Funny what kids will do to try to resist!

  54. I think if I had been given this test (temptation) when I was little the panelists would be shocked...because, although I loved sweets, I wasn't that fond of marshmallows. I could have sat there all day! Now, if they had placed a bowl of ice cream in front of me, I'd be chomping at the bit to get my hands on it...lol!
