Many of you have been asking about our honeymoon, and I realized that we never shared our final plan! After our wedding this weekend, we'll be flying to Italy and Greece for two weeks. We can't wait. We're flying into Naples, then going to Positano for four nights, then Rome for three nights, then Santorini for four. It will be such an exciting, romantic, over-the-top trip! (Any last-minute recommendations? I would LOVE to hear. xo)To help afford our honeymoon, we skipped the regular household registry and created a honeymoon registry. We signed up with buy-our-honeymoon (don't worry, guests never see the tacky name!). The honeymoon registry has worked out really well and made our honeymoon possible; I'd highly recommend it to anyone. xo

that's a great idea! i've heard couples doing that honeymoon registry. what a lovely trip that will be. my brother went to positano on their honeymoon. and know the little pup we gave his wife as a gift is called Posi! if they have any rec's i'll share;) have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteFirst, congrats! Sounds great--here's a little magical thing to do in Rome: Find your way to the gardens of the Knights of Malta. You will be faced with a giant wall of hedges. There is a door in this wall, which has a keyhole. If you look through the keyhole, you will be able to see a straight shot of one of Rome's most iconic buildings, perfectly framed by the hole in the metal. Awe.Some. (emily from caribou)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful wedding - and go to Procida in the bay of Napoli if possible - it´s such a lovely little island. You can catch a ferry from the harbour of Napoli to Procida!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
OMG I'm so happy and excited for you I could burst!! I will email you Italy suggestions.
ReplyDeleteOh, your honeymoon sounds so dreamy. Have you been to Naple before? It's pretty hectic (riding in a taxi there is like being in a video game - seriously!) but exciting.Positano is gorgeous and tres chic!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new reader to your blog and a total convert. Happy honeymooning to you and your love. Looking forward to the pics! (Bex from Cornwall) xoxo
Santorini has got to be the most beautiful place on earth. You will love, love it. My boyfriend and I visited two summers ago. We stayed in Oia. The most picturesque town on the island. Ahmoudi Bay is delightful, you have to go cliff diving there. Also, the restaurants by Ahmoudi are great. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Even though I don't know you I've been excited for you all week knowing that your wedding was coming up this weekend. Have a wonderful day and a fabulous honeymoon. You deserve it.
ReplyDelete-heidi
jo, you are going to have an AMAZING time ! i am greek and just got back from a 6 week vacation visting family - while i was there i made a stop over in santorini and it is just GORGEOUS ! have an AMAZING honeymoon !
ReplyDeletecongratulations and lots of fun and love for your beautiful weeding and honeymoon.
ReplyDeletebest wishes :) *
Can't wait to see your pics!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea! :) How many hours until the wedding?
ReplyDeleteJo & Alex~
ReplyDeleteYou two have the best wedding, and the most romantic and breathtaking honeymoon evah!!!
Please post pics the MINUTE you return. I showed J your idea of a honeymoon registry and his face brightened...as we've been together for some time and have toasters and gravy boats already. :)
Enjoy it all you crazy kids!!! xoxo
Oh my profile photo is a shot of your typewriter! :)
ReplyDeletePositano is AMAZING - went there this summer for my (pre-wedding) honeymoon. The best food is at the Palazzo Murat Hotel restaurant and the best beach is the local one that you have to hike five minutes to...have fun!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful wedding and honeymoon, Joanna! Wishing you so many good things. What a fabulous weekend you'll have. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing idea since you've already set up home! My uncle's from that region of Italy but he's in Australia so unfortunately I can't ask him so easily! But half the fun is stumbling on something unexpected, right? That's usually when the hubs and I have the best times :) Enjoy your honeymoon!!!
ReplyDeleteoh, that sounds like my kind of trip - Naples is absolutely crazy but if you can spend a bit of time there before heading off to Amalfi you might end up loving it - I do! (not very honeymooney though!) Oh - my friend went to a wedding at this amazing hotel in Amalfi called Il Saraceno that might be the one in that photo. He said it was the most incredible place he'd ever been. Have a fantastic wedding day and honeymoon! x x x x
ReplyDeletethis sounds like the most perfect trip! and what a fantastic idea to have a honeymoon registry. have an amazing wedding weekend and honeymoon, joanna!

This is so clever!!!! I wish I had known about this before we got married. When a couple is in their 30's and has already set up their home, it's tough to find stuff to register for. Absolutely brilliant!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm so envious of your stay in Positano in that 6th century villa! Your honeymoon sounds absolutely amazing!
Sounds wonderful... just wanted to send along an early CONGRATS!!! to you two for tomorrow! I'll be sending my strongest 'no rain all sunshine' thoughts the way of NY. :) I'm sure the day will be wonderful & can't wait for us to get to hear about it!
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I've been looking for. I like that you can also add charities or household items. Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time!
I wish you the most glorious wedding and honeymoon ever!! This October My husband and I are celebrating 23 years together (16 married) and it just keeps getting better and better!!
ReplyDeleteBunny
...and as much as we all want to know what's happening day by day--just make us all wait so all you're thinking about is each other.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH THAT SOUNDS AMAZING! HAVE SO MUCH FUN!
ReplyDeleteXO
That sounds so magical - ENJOY!!!
ReplyDeleteeek! so, so fun! if you have the chance, go to pompeii...it's only a short trip from naples, and despite the touristy/nerd-alert nature of the whole enterprise, it's exceptionally beautiful. also, capri. my sister and i went there the summer i was 19 and i've been dying to go back ever since! a perfect honeymoon destination if i ever knew one!
ReplyDeletesantorini is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteyou will have researched I am sure but there is a little town called Oia which is the best spot for watching sunsets. There is a row of little taverns and restaurants right on the waterfront and fisherman bring their boats right up to the pier. the seafood is just amazing.
and the sunset's just take your breath away.
have fun :)
ENJOY! I love Positano! The Amalfi coast is amazingly stunning- you will die! I recommend the Villa Cimbrone for sure (which I saw on your honeymoon registry). The views are UNREAL and the grounds are gorgeous. I also recommend getting a drink at one of the best hotels in the world- Le Sirenuse in Positano. You will wish you got married there (as I want to, my mom says to keep dreaming, haha).
ReplyDeleteOh have so much fun!!
Sounds like a perfect honeymoon!! Congratulations and have a blast tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I wish my husband and I had thought about that this year when we went to Japan for our honeymoon.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time this weekend and on your trip!
That sounds fabulous, Joanna! We're planning on Italy for our honeymoon too, so I'll be excited to see where you stay and what you do. And great idea about the honeymoon registry. A new experience is always more enjoyable (to me) than a new possession.
ReplyDeleteoh missy, you must be so very excited!!!! a honeymoon registry totally makes sense, especially if you've been living with your mr for a while now. you pretty much have all the starter kit up.
ReplyDeleteeeep can't wait to see photos!
That's such a great idea! P.S. LOVE the photo!! Makes you want to jump over right this second!
ReplyDelete-Jane @ brunchatthebeach.blogspot.com
Have a ball and I have to say...that's the cutest damn registry I've ever seen! CONGRATS love birds!
ReplyDeleteThat's where Brian and I went for our honeymoon last year! We did a honeymoon registry too but with Honeyfund. I can recommend places to see in the islands - let me know if you want any recommendations! You will LOVE IT!
ReplyDeletethat's so awesome!! i am soooooo excited for both of you! i haven't been to Italy, but spent 4 nights in Santorini last May - it is such a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteWhere are you staying? are you staying in Oia? If so, be sure to take the coastal hike from Oia to Fira (or vice versa) the view along the way is not to be missed. The hike isn't too strenuous, you can take it slow and bring water.
Have a wonderful time tomorrow, and enjoy the 2 weeks of honeymoon! Please do share photos when you are back :)
PS - i have honeymoon pics here:
ReplyDeletehttp://notesfromdionne.blogspot.com/2009/02/greece-is-everywhere.html
Have a beautiful weekend and honeymoon! All the best to you both :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea! Have a blast at your wedding & safe travels =)
ReplyDeletegenius idea regarding your honeymoon! I went to Rome a while back with my sister, but vowed to return to do Amalfi and Greece with hubby because its just way to romantic for two sisters!!
ReplyDeleteyour gonna die, I couldn't think of a more perfect place for two lovebirds!! please post your pics! Congrats!
ciao. i lived at positano for 1 year half you will love it greatly. Super romantico and the scenery is delicious. Have amazing time!
ReplyDeleteI wish you two a great weekend!! Congratualtions and lots of love! Enjoy your honeymoon, I think it will be great - you picked very special locations.
ReplyDeleteAm already looking forward to your post-wedding posts... ;-)
If you are looking for a restaurant in Positano - La Tagliata - via Tagliata Montepertuso (089 875872)
ReplyDeleteThis is a real Italian trattoria. Their speciality is grilled meats, antipasti, and pastas. Cash only. If you book a table they will pick you up and return you to your hotel/apartment in Positano.
I have not been in a while, but it has always been reviewed well!
Congratulations!
Congratulations and Bon Voyage!!!!
ReplyDeletethat is such a great idea! and congratulations! i hope your wedding and honeymoon is the most romantic!
ReplyDeleteI took a trip like this last summer! Rome is beautiful, especially the Vatican. Here's a tip I wish I knew: Everyone knows a woman cannot have bare shoulders in St. Peter's, but it is STRONGLY frowned upon in ANY church in Italy and you will get very, very dirty looks. So cover up! The same probably goes for Greece if you visit churches. Also, in Santorini, you can choose between the donkey trail and the Funiculaire to get up the crazy vertical cliff to the island. There are so many donkeys and it's like a donkey traffic jam. But the Funiculaire is often hot and crowded so I suppose they even out. Man, a honeymoon registry is so much better than getting blenders. - heysweetie
ReplyDeleteOh, I also just remembered that our tour guide told us if you hail a taxi in Greece, do not do it like you would in NYC by raising your hand because that's the equivalent of flipping the bird in Greece. Take your finger and point towards the ground to hail a cab (think the second step in a disco move). - heysweetie
ReplyDeleteGreece will be amazing, Joanna! That is my dream honeymoon destination! My mom, who has traveled ALL over the world, told me Santorini is hands-down THE most romantic and breathtaking place she's ever been! Have so much fun-- we are all so happy for you and Alex!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! What a grand honeymoon it will be....I'm hearing those wedding bells - yipppeee!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! That will be an amazing trip. My sister got married & honeymooned in the Amalfi Coast about this time of year.
ReplyDeleteIt's so gorgeous!
this idea is such a great one! one of my good girlfriends did this for her honeymoon... her and her hubby took photos during the "activities" (like if a family member bought them a snorkel trip or a tour somewhere) and used the photos for thank you notes. good way to document the trip and to share it with loved ones.
ReplyDeletecongratulations and have loads of fun!
what a dream of a honeymoon, joanna!
ReplyDeletehave a wonderful wedding day!!! it all happens so fast you almost miss it. so try and soak up as much as much of your special day as possible. xoxo.
Hi Joanna!!! I know you won't have much time but this is a blog from Santorini!! I've been in love with this place when I start to read this blog! take a look :) and Congratulations!!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://oiasantorini.com/
I went Italy last summer, and loved it. Theres this amazing coffee shop on a corner facing the Pantheon called Tazza d' Oro and their frozen espresso is devine!
ReplyDeleteHave fun:)
I have no doubt you know Italy like the back of your hand Joanna, but if you haven't eaten pizza at Dar Poeta in Rome, you haven't lived! Honestly, we ate there three nights in a row (We were on a budget...but the food was incredible!)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
all i can recommend is that you eat. a lot! we're going on a european excursion as well... paris, barcelona, florence and beaune. yay!!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your wonderful site for a long time now, but this is my first comment... I hope that you and your guy have an amazing wedding and honeymoon. Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteI just got back from a 10th anniversary get-away with my husband -- and spent most of it in Positano. It's so romantic and beautiful. 1) We rented a scooter for 3 days to cruise around the Amalfi Coast. Definitely the way to go. Stop in Ravello, and head up from Positano to Montepertuso. 2) Da Adolfo - catch the boat with a red fish on it at the end of the pier near the ferries. It takes you to a beach and restaurant, and you get to enjoy a nice boat ride on the way there. Pick up is between 10-1 and you can come back between 4-7. White wine with peaches. Oh my gosh, I wish I could go back tomorrow. Have fun, and congratulations!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Have an amazing trip. I am so happy for you guys!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow Joanna! Are all the grayed out items ont he registry ones that have been purchased for you? How stinking cool! You must have some very lovely and generous friends and family!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your wedding and the honeymoon!
what a great honeymoon registry idea especially for couples who have already "set up house."
ReplyDeleteItaly is #1 on my list of place I want to go.
Our honeymoon (wow, almost 10 years ago) was spent in Prague, Budapest and Paris for two weeks - 3 cities in two weeks like you! I recommend packing very light since you'll be moving around alot. It'll make things much easier. xx
Yay!!!!! I'm so excited for you! I house-sat for some family members this summer that spent time in Rome and Positano and they LOVED it (I mean, how could you not?)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a LOVELY time and oh my gosh, CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING MARRIED TOMORROW!!!!!
That sounds wonderful and extremely romantic! And the romance starts tomorrow! Congratulations in advance and enjoy!! xo
ReplyDeleteShould have read the registry first, because now I see Capri on there too. Blue Grotto - we swam into it after the boats left (but we spent one night on Capri). Got to spend a bit more time in it that way and it was lovely. Chairlift to Monte Solaro overlooking all of Capri - most stunning view of our entire trip.
ReplyDeletecongrats again! you guys are going to have such a wonderful wedding and honeymoon... that will be kiwi and i in just a few months!
ReplyDeletep.s. the newest travel and leisure mag is all about italy and it's a collectors edition. you should def. pick it up before you go!
What a brilliant plan! You're going to have so much fun :)
ReplyDeleteof course i wouldn't expect you to pick an ordinary honeymoon. this sounds lovely- congrats! can't wait for updates!
ReplyDeletex
That is such a great idea! Considering that nowadays many couples already have their own home and aren't living with their parents anymore by the time they get married...
ReplyDeleteI could not BE more jealous of your trip. Have a lovely time!!!
Best of luck tomorrow.
xoxo
sounds amazing! have a wonderful wedding weekend + a fabulous trip! my sister went to greece last summer and her photos are absolutely stunning.
ReplyDeletegood luck with the big day!
xoxo
Joanna! What a wonderful and classy idea!!! The way you wrote each description it really is specific things and event people are helping you buy!!! What a great idea. I hope you have just a lovely wedding as you are a wonderful and lovely person!
ReplyDeleteI want to get married again so I can honeymoon like that!
ReplyDeleteSounds dreamy! I've been to Santorini, and it was one of my all-time-favorite destinations. You will LOVE it! The entire thing sounds amazing. We're doing a honeymoon registry too. Glad it's worked out well for you!
ReplyDeleteso exciting and great idea registering for your honeymoon!
ReplyDeletebeing greek myself, i have always wanted to visit the country.. if you get the chance, and want a dose of some real culture, try to find a place with some real greek dancing and a band.. lots of entertainment there!
you will definitely be eating so much yummy food too! try pastitsio (a lasagna type of dish) and spanakopita is always a win... big congratulations for you two tomorrow!!
ooooh I loved Greece (especially Santorini!). Your going to have a blast!!!
ReplyDeletesantorini it's heaven !!!! ...and Rome...ohh Rome....to die for it :X
ReplyDeletebeen there several times!!!
try the wine in Santorini!!! you two won't regret it!
have a nice wedding and a wonderfull honeymoon!!!!
Congrats on the wedding. You must be so excited!! I just got back from a trip to Rome, Positano, and Sorrento myself. It was AMAZING (plus I got engaged in Rome YAY!!). Here are the place not to be missed:
ReplyDelete1) In Positano, you should have lunch at Le Sirenuse. Sit outside on their patio. It's a little pricey but worth it. The decor is amazing and the food is delicious. http://www.sirenuse.it/
2) For a dinner of a lifetime, drive up the coast from Positano to a little town called Sant Agata and go to Don Alfonso. It's one of a handful of italian restaurants with 3 Michelin stars. The food is to die for (get their 7 course tasting menu) and they have a wine cellar with over 25,000 bottles that was hand-carved into the mountainside by Etruscans in 6 BC
http://www.donalfonso.com/en/index.htm
3) If you're in Rome before Sept 13, you must go to an exhibit on the history of Bulgari at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. It is an amazing collection of some of their finest pieces. I know I'm a little partial because I am a jewelry designer, but even my fiance was in awe. http://english.palazzoesposizioni.it/canale.asp?id=287
Have an amazing time!! Eat some gelato for me :)
How wonderful!!! We better see lots of pictures! you two will have such an amazing time!
ReplyDeleteThe Amalfi Coast is gorgeous! Be careful of crazy Italian driving ;D
ReplyDeleteI had the best meal of my life in a restaurant between Positano and Sorrento called Il Capitano, perched perilously on the cliff's edge over the ocean - my first ever grilled sea bass and I almost died of joy!
This was over 10years ago, but I still remember the meal, so I hope it's still there and good as ever :)
enjoy! italy and greece are two of my favorite places in the world. i know you'll both have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeletealso, i was just talking with someone in my mother's generation about honeymoon registry + how traditions/times are changing. i think it's a great idea. congratulations!
sounds perfect! if you have time to go into northern italy, lake como is heavenly. have fun!
ReplyDeletecongratulations again, joanna! good luck with the last minute details for tomorrow, and have an amazing honeymoon! can't wait to see some photos!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
jessica
i am sooooooo excited for you two!
ReplyDeletecongratulations on everything and have a beautiful time!
sooooo exciting! can't wait to hear all about the wedding. and see photos, etc. good luck! have a lovely lovely wedding day.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, enjoy every second of this weekend!
ReplyDeleteOn your honeymoon let me give just one simple advise..enjoy the food!
Don't mind any kind of diet!
Italian food is honest, simple but the best ever!
Enjoying your food to the fullest is living life to the fullest!
Learn how they are in love with healty and fresh products and indulge in this fest of a roman paradise!
I wish you both all the love and luck in the world.
Greetings from Europe
Karen
hi - i love your site. just discovered it! i have lots of tips on rome on my travel site jauntsetter - i think you'll really like them. just put in rome in the search box at http://www.jauntsetter.com. there's a tip on cutting the line at the coliseum that saved me and my boyfriend about 2 hours of waiting time ...
ReplyDeleteOh that sounds like perfection! Have an absolutely wonderful time! =D
ReplyDeletewow, what a neat idea!!
ReplyDelete(and I have to tell you, I'm SO excited for you and your fabulous wedding plans -- I can't wait to see all of the beautiful photos that are sure to be taken!!)
omg!! It sounds amaaaazing!! If you like lamb, definitely try pythykia (tried to spell it as its pronounced) while in Greece. They're tender lamb ribs with fresh lemon and herb seasonings. Absolutely delicious!
ReplyDeleteIn Italy, pistachio gelato... mmmmmm... I miss that so much!
... such a foodie =D
Oh, how I envy you! Greece and Italy! That's a dream vacation for me. I'd consider a honeymoon registry, but my fiancé's aunt has offered us her timeshare in Hawaii as her wedding gift to us. Not that there is anything wrong with Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful wedding and honeymoon, Jo! You deserve all the happiness in the world. Be safe and enjoy each other on your new journey!
omg! you guys will have an amazing time! I was in Italy a couple of years ago - went to Naples and then to Capri - it was heaven!! I've heard that Positano is very similar and even better (not that I can imagine that, lol).
ReplyDeleteTake a lot of pictures, okay? :)
thank you so much for all these sweet, sweet comments and great travel tips! and bex, my grandmother lives in cornwall!!! in polruan. xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's a fantastic idea! I know many people who have had great success with the honeymoon registry! Have a wonderful, amazing weekend! We cannot wait to see pictures!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your wedding!! I hope you two have a great time and I wish you all the love and happiness in the world!!!! Enjoy your Honeymoon!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to Naples, take a boat ride to Capri Island. It's absolutely gorgeous, you can pretend you are Grace Kelly :p
ReplyDeletebest wishes for your wedding, looking forward to reading about it. I spent my honeymoon in Sorrento last year, you will absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteLauren, London UK
i love that idea!! when in rome, check out the trastevre neighborhood (adjacent to vatican city). it's less touristy with lots of outdoor markets with great finds. the winding streets and cafes along the river are suer romantic--my boyfriend and i visited last summer. you're going to have a great time.
ReplyDeletecongrats and good luck tomorrow.
Your honeymoon plans sound fantastic! I hope you guys have a super memorable, fun, romantic time :)
ReplyDeleteYou have the most magical honeymoon planned! :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck this weekend!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a fabulous time xo!
I was just in Rome, Amalfi Coast, and Capri in June with my boyfriend. It was the most amazing vacation ever.
ReplyDeleteBest dinner of my life (near Positano). I highly recommend it:
http://www.fattoriaterranova.it/restaurants.htm
Best Wishes!
Congratulations! Those are my FAVORITE places on earth, Joanna!
ReplyDeleteAh! Best of luck (and weather) for your wedding, I can't wait to see pictures. Also, have an incredible honeymoon, I can't wait to see pictures ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have a fabulous time in Italy! That's where we went on our honeymoon three years ago. I can't give you any advice or recos, though, because we stuck to the north (santa margarita, cinque terre, and florence), but I guess one piece of advice that runs country wide is to take a TON of pics, eat as much gelato as your heart contents and drink wine with every meal. Oh how I wish I was going back.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS!!! ;)
Congratulations!! Have a great time in Italy and Greece.
ReplyDeleteItalia!! Such a good choice. Make sure to swim in the Blue Grotto Cave in Capri. Being out in the water is also so much fun, so try to rent a boat all day and spend the day sunbathing and swimming!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny...I recently sent the EXACT same photo to my fiance as an idea about where we should go on our honeymoon!
ReplyDeletethat's a great idea! how much stuff do we really need, anyway? wow, it won't be long now.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds lovely! While I've never been to Naples, I spent a few weeks in Rome a while back. My best suggestion to anyone who visits is to check out the electric bus system. It's run by ATAC (which runs all public transit in Rome) and I'm pretty sure it's still only 1 Euro each way. It doesn't stop everywhere, but if you're trying to get the whole way across town in less than a day, it's a really great way to go.
ReplyDeleteAlso, all your most amazing fashion dreams will be right below the Spanish Steps, and along the Via Del Corso. All the major Italian brands are there, and then some. It's at least nice to dream while window shopping, right?
Best wishes!
What a fabulous idea! People are getting you something you can really use. I'm sure thank you notes will be a breeze, you can tell them how it came in handy on the trip!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! It all sounds extraordinarily good! Yippee for tomorrow,
ReplyDeleteLots of Love

thank you, thank you, thank you for introducing me to "buy our honeymoon"! its an excellent idea. i had mentioned to my boyfriend that when it came to wedding registry, we dont need any more "stuff". we have plenty of furniture, kitchen wares, etc.. that what i really wanted was a fabulous trip for a honeymoon. this is genius, and exactly what i was looking for!
ReplyDeleteI studied in Greece eight years ago and it's an amazing country. You are going to have a wonderful time. Definitely stay or spend some time in Oia (Santorini). You'll want to sit atop an old building, drink some wine, and watch the sun go down. Gorgeous! Enjoy your honeymoon!
ReplyDeleteMelissa
Hi: I'm de-lurking to congratulate you and wish you all the best on your marriage and honeymoon.
ReplyDeleteI got married last year and my husband (it was so weird to say that for the first time!) and I spent three glorious weeks in Italy on our honeymoon. We spent a week in Rome, then spent several nights on the Amalfi coast, then traveled back up to Tuscany where we spent nearly a week driving from hill town to hill town, then several days in Florence followed up by Venice. It was the most amazing honeymoon we could have ever dreamt of and I still daydream about it. My best recommendation to you is to visit the island of Capri from your base of Positano for at least one of the days you're there. Capri is beautiful, magical......in a word, amazing. Be sure to travel to the top of the island, Anacapri, and view the gorgeous Villa San Michele and be swept away by the stupendous views. Then take the funicular to the very tip of the island....travel back down to Capri and have a drink at the lush Quisiana hotel......and definitely eat a delitzia al limone (lemony, custardy, glorious little bite of heaven). Have an AMAZING time and all the blessings in the world to you!!
Brilliant plan! Your honeymoon sounds absolutely perfect.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations once again and good luck for tomorrow! Your wedding will be beautiful like you.
Santorini is my favorite (and most beautiful) place on earth. Enjoy! Oh, and make sure to ride a donkey up to the top of the cliffs :)
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea! and a fabulous itinerary~ enjoy!!!
ReplyDelete♥~L
Congratulations! and what a great idea for a honeymoon registry! enjoy yourselves!
ReplyDeleteIf you have a chance, I highly recommend Cinque Terre National Park. I fell in love with that place. I stayed at a hostel in a little mountain town called Biassa. It was incredible...
ReplyDeleteI hope you have an amazing weekend and honeymoon! I spent two weeks in Italy last year and I'm just dying to go back. You're sure to have an incredible few weeks. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteHow heavenly! My friend last summer went on a cruise of Mexico for their honeymoon. They had done a pass-the-hat kind of thing at the reception as a "honeymoon drink fund" and kept the cash in their bags. They got ripped off ON THE BOAT. And security wouldn't do anything about it. If you're going to ask guests to help fund your honeymoon, I'd say a registry is the way to go. You might not have time to go to the bank before you leave otherwise!
ReplyDeleteI went just got married on Santorini... here is what I recommend. If you can, stay in Oia. It's the cutest town you're ever seen and it's where most of the associated photos come from. Be sure to see Amoudi Bay just below it. Imerovigli is the highest point of the island and Fira has a little town center. Renting a car is risky (very narrow streets)... so either cab (great cab system!) or rent a motorscooter. Amazing restaurants: 1800, Selene, Papagolous. Hike the cliff trail, wear comfy shoes!
ReplyDeleteCould I be anymore jealous? You picked my two dream destinations. Have a fabulous time.
ReplyDeleteI think that is such a great idea as those memories that you make will be by far the best gift anyone can give. I wish you and Alex all the best xo
ReplyDeleteIn Rome, there is this gorgeous building called the Pantheon (which you may have heard of, but I hadn't before I visited. It's gorgeous inside and out, and it's an architectural marvel because it's 2000 years old and the dome shape is made out of concrete, which you would think would be impossible without our modern technology...
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I digress. The piazza it is in is gorgeous. The great thing about Rome, is that they don't isolate their history and set it apart, they build around it and incorporate it into their everyday lives. The Piazza del Pantheon is absolutely stunning, but our favourite part, which you must go to, is the little Italian (obviously) restaurant right across the piazza, and right beside a McDonalds (which is always more busy for some reason). It is a great feeling to eat the best food I had in Italy across a none too busy piazza from a thousands of years old monument. It was recommended to me by a coworker, and we ended up going back more than once! I definitely suggest you check it out. The restaurant was never too busy.
Also, an eerily spectacular sight is the Capuchin Crypt, in Rome as well. It's a small, hidden away place with six smaller crypts or rooms inside. Each of these rooms are decorated in the most ornate and spectacular ways with the bones of Capuchin friars. The dirt is brought in from Jerusalem. I am very squeamish, and not at all into Satanism or anything weird in that regard... But they were absolutely gorgeous, and much more fascinating and easy to access than the catacombs. Plus, these are also hardly busy. The only admission fee is a required "donation" of your choosing, and I guarantee you'll want to pick up some post cards as photos because you're not allowed to take your own.
Anyways, I of course suggest checking out the traditional Roman sites, but we were in Rome for only three days and still managed to see all of those (the Colosseum, Ancient Rome, etc.) and these, less heard of or visited, but the some of the highlights of our trip.
Definitely check it out!
Oh my, oh my!!
ReplyDeleteLook at that picture....I NEED to make it to western Europe someday........stunning.
Oh, and, of course, have an amazing wedding and honeymoon! I can't wait to return to Italy, have always wanted to see Greece, and have heard that Naples is absolutely brilliant! If you haven't read Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert gives the most excellent description of her visit.
ReplyDeleteI almost wish I were getting married again, just so we could do something like this! Brilliant! Another bonus (if someone hasn't said this before) is that each time you go to dinner, spend a night in a hotel, put on sunscreen, you will have that little reminder of your family or friend who made it possible...perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, the trip sounds AMAZING times ten! My husband and I honeymooned in Rome and the Amalfi Coast and adored Positano where we spent three nights. If I had any recommendations it would be the following: Do find a way to make a day trip over to Capri, do ask about this little Italian "BBQ" place on top of one of the hills in Positano (cant remember the name but it was the most wonderful little gem), do check out Music on the Rocks, and if you havent finalized where you are staying and can splurge pick Le Sirenuese (worth every penny). Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI want to do a honeymoon registry too. I'm sure I'd love that a lot more than a waffle griddle.
ReplyDeleteNew to your blog! Very lovely :) Have a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeletemy boyfriend and I traveled to Santorini in May. It was such a wonderful vacation! Things I reccomend:
ReplyDeleteyou MUST take the walk/hike along the caldera between Fira and Oia. There are some of the most incredible views!
Don't miss the Red Beach, on the Southwestern tip of the island, its one of the nicest you'll find.
There's also a really wonderful restaurant near the lighthouse called Mama Thira, I believe, which has been in the family for 30 years or something.
Kamari has a wonderful cinema under the stars which plays old american (or english subtitled) movies and includes wine at intermission!
In the middle of the island, there is a little place call Prygos, which is built around a church and decends to small residental cave houses. There are a couple little cafes there, but in general its quiet, and fun to explore the abandoned parts of the village.
Things you can miss (trust me): Perissa. The restaurants are terrible, the beach is only okay, and its not at all pretty. Skip it.
i just got back from santorini and if i could give any suggestion it would be to rent ATVs (4 wheelers) to explore the island. They are only 25 euro a day and most people keep their ATVs the whole time they are on the island. This way you can explore but not have to rent a car and it's easier to park!
ReplyDeleteAlso, we had a fabulous meal in Oia at Papagalos Restaurant. So yummy - I think there were fried tomatoes or something as an app. They were delicious and didn't seem fried at all. Everything they use seemed very fresh! Not to mention the restaurant itself has amazing views and is tres chic.
Go to Sorrento, drive scooters on the coast, and drink lots of lemonchello...fabulous honeymoon! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!! Your honeymoon sounds like its going to be wonderful. When you are in Athens if you go to The Plaka, which is a shopping/market area, go to the gelato place there. I can't remember the name but its off the main square and has a large ice cream cone out the front. When you go in tell the owner that you knew the crazy Canadian girl who were there over spring break. He will love you forever.
ReplyDeleteoh wow, your trip is on my list of dream trips. i'd absolutely love to see italy and santorini. my recommendation since i've never been... have a super super time!! pam
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, you couldn't have chosen any better honeymoon locations. I spent this summer in Italy and traveled all around. Positano was my favorite Amalfi Coast town hands down and you can't go wrong with Rome. Lovely little shops in Positano. Hope you have a magical time!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds absolutely perfect. You will love Positano and Rome, it is the perfect time of year to go. Enjoy, enjoy. Now get off the computer and get ready for tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Joanna! That sounds like the perfect honeymoon! Those are the two exact places that I would choose for mine(if I were getting married,of course). I've never been anywhare outside of the US and Mexico and can't wait to see your pictures. I hope you don't mind if I live vicariously through you:)Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Have a wonderful day and honeymoon. Santorini is fabulous be brave and hire a quad bike.
ReplyDeletecongratulations, and I hope you have such an amazing wedding & honeymoon adventure!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing your honeymoon registry tips, too!
that is so exciting! i just came back from greece this summer and it is so beautiful. if you arrive at santorini by boat, make sure you take the donkeys up the hill! greece is so beautiful, i'm so excited for you!
ReplyDeleteThe best gelato place is just to the right of the Spanish steps in Rome (if your facing them). Grab some gelato and sit on the steps and people watch, best couple of hours i had in Rome by far!
ReplyDeleteOh and definitely rent a car in Santorini - so many amazing beaches (make sure to check out the red sand one) to explore and it definitely makes it easier when you have your own set of wheels!
ReplyDeleteIn greece: Try the feta cheese baked in foil... Heaven!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteOia is definately the prettiest town in Santorini, esp. early in the morning or in the evening after the hordes of tourists are gone.
ReplyDeleteMost of Santorini is really touristy, so if you want to experience real Greek life stop for one or two days in Folegandros or Anafi. So much better than Santorini. Quiet and charming.
Enjoy your honeymoon.
Sounds like you are going to have the most fabulous honeymoon! The Amalfi coast is where my husband and I went on honeymoon and it is beautiful, dramatic and oh so romantic! We stayed in this hotel http://www.relaisblu.com/ which is a fairly short drive from Positano and the most beautiful hotel to stay in or even have a meal at!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time.
Positano is so beautiful and romantic...you have to take the boat and go to Capri!
ReplyDeleteHave fun and congratulations!
definitley go to the porta portese flea market in trastevere. its the best flea market i've been to anywhere. i lived in rome for 6 months and it was my fave place to haunt. and get gelato at giolitti the blueberry flavor is out of this world
ReplyDeleteitaly and greece! how amazing!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Dear Jo,
ReplyDeleteFirstly, Congratulations!!
*Jumps up and down and claps hands exitedly*
How embarrassing.
Anyway, I know it is such a given,
but please please please get to the Trevi fountain.
It is stunningly romantic at night and during the day there's a lovely little gelato place on the corner.
Enjoy Darling =)
Fun! You'll have a blast!
ReplyDeletegood luck, good luck, good luck! wow, have a fabulous weekend, I am so happy for you : )
ReplyDeleteI know you will have an amazing time. My husband and I stayed in Positano for 3 days about 10 years ago and its one of our most favorite places in the world--truly magical. Best wishes!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you for the honeymoon registry Web site recommendation! I want to do that for my registry, since we already have most of the household stuff we need. I was wondering where and how.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a magical time on your honeymoon!
Oh, I've been in Italy this summer.. In Santorini too. It's an amazing place everyone has to visit. I am so happy for you! Wish you the best!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many amazing places in Italy..They attract visitors..That idea is cool..I would love to be there..
ReplyDeleteI live in Greece and I am so glad you are coming to Santorini for your honey moon! Dont forget to watch the sunset in Oia!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time.
don't forget to visit Atrani when you are in Positano, it is the most beautiful place at the Amalfitana! Been there this summer and its soooo beautiful and romantic.
ReplyDeleteI went to Positano earlier this year...AMAZING! Don't miss Capri too!
ReplyDeleteWhen I get married I'm totally doing this, what a fabulous idea - then you get to enjoy a luxury vacation with the help of your friends. Enjoy!
ReplyDeletecongratulations and all the best for you!
ReplyDeleteJo, your honeymoon sounds AMAZING! I was in Rome, Florence and the Cinque Terre in May and can only imagine how romantic your time in Italy will be! Love this series of wedding posts!
ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning the benefits of a honeymoon registry and describing the attributes behind this increasingly mainstream registry option for engaged couples.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see how popular the honeymoon registry is becoming. When Traveler's Joy first started accepting Members over five years ago, we realized there were a large number of engaged couples that were not satisfied with the diversity of the traditional wedding registry market. Since then, the honeymoon registry has become a mainstream option for brides and grooms and the industry has experienced significant growth.
We are proud to have helped tens of thousands of couples honeymoon at destinations they may never have considered - a great feeling for everyone at Traveler's Joy.
I encourage you to contact us with any questions about our service. Most importantly, enjoy your honeymoon!
Best Regards,

Mazel tov! This is the best idea and we were just talking about how we don't need anything for our house but we want to take a fabulous trip! You did it in such a classy way!
ReplyDeleteWe agree with you - most of our couples at AGreatAffair.com Gift Registry register for all the basics of their honeymoon, like airfare, beachfront resorts, spa treatments and meals. Also, with our registry couples can register for anything else, inlcuding big ticket items, such as things like a home downpayment, their wedding planner, golf lessons, even a new family pet.
ReplyDeleteWe are finding that when given the choice, couples would prefer to register for experiences and big ticket items over traditional gifts like towels and linens.
I would be happy to answer any questions you have regarding these registries. Have a great wedding!
