Wedding makeup

Next Friday, I'm excited to have my wedding makeup trial at Makeup Forever. After looking through wedding blogs for inspiration, I've narrowed it down to two favorite looks: soft mauve (above) vs. pale skin and red lipstick (below). Do you prefer one over the other? xo
P.S. Do you think you'll cry at your wedding?

  1. i love the red lips as long as they're kiss-proof. gorgeous photos.

  2. I usually like a very natural look for weddings, but I'm loving the red lipstick! Byootiful :)

    ReplyDelete
  3. I love the red lips! It's a great, classic look and will look wonderful against the white of your dress.

    ReplyDelete
  4. You have dark hair, right? Well, nothing is lovelier with dark hair than the classic red lip and pale skin. And, hello?, though you can't rock 2 wedding dresses - you CAN have two sets of lips. Ceremony lips and party lips. :)

    ReplyDelete
  5. red lips, definitely. when you're looking back years from now at pictures of your wedding, they'll give your face that beautiful, nostalgic glamour and really stand out!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm liking the red lips - it will be beautiful in your pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  7. thank you SO much for these comments, they are so helpful!!! and vivi, that is an amazing point, i hadn't thought of that--such an easy way to mix things up :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. i'm loving the mauve, which surprises even me. i think you'll be absolutely beautiful no matter which way you go though!

  9. Normally, I'd love the mauve, but Michelle Williams looks gorgeous with pale skin and red lips. Still, I think the mauve is my favorite! :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh no, I'm going to disagree with almost everyone and say the soft look. Red lipstick looks so high maintenance and you strike me as a more natural bride who'll be hugging and kissing everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think I like the mauve best! It seems so timeless. But I also love the red lips trend and know you'll look wonderful in either!

    ReplyDelete
  12. i also like the mauve... but the red should be easier as it stains better than any other color...

and i almost cried at my second wedding... but i didn't...

Mauve!! Gorgeous!! And of COURSE I'm going to cry like a small child on my wedding day - but you best believe they'll be tears of happiness!! Much love to you and Alex - either way you'll be stunning. :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm always afraid of dark lips. ...you have to reapply, make sure it's not on your teeth, or on your new husband's face, etc.etc.etc. It's too much maintenance for me. I'd go with a light lip ...probably gloss.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i'm all about looking like yourself on your wedding day, but just a prettier version. i love the idea of berry-stained lips. so subtle and ethereal.

    ReplyDelete
  16. What time is your wedding? Evening - definitely red. Morning or early afternoon outside? Maybe mauve. I live what Vivi said about the two colors - wedding and party lips. Similarly you have a going away dress, so you can change your lipstick for that if you want. Overall, I am thinking the glam red!

    ReplyDelete
  17. So pretty, red lipstick is great. I know for sure I'll cry at my wedding...whenever that happens to be. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. The red lips are gorgeous, but I also love the softness of the first look. Having both lip looks is a grand idea!
And yes, I cried the biggest happiest tears on my wedding day - I was bubbling with such love that it shed through my tears!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I love the mauve--so soft and pretty and natural! Just remember that you will be kissing people's cheeks all day!

    ReplyDelete
  20. If it's evening then go for the red! But if it's a day wedding, I'd do the soft look. I'm a softy so I'll be crying at my wedding :) Congrats and how exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I like both. The red is more bold, and the mauve more pretty. But since you're brunette, I am thinking the red lips.

And yes, I cried at my wedding. Well at the reception for the Father Daughter Dance. We did our Father Daughter Dance first, and then my Dad presented me to Brian, and then from there me and Brian did our first dance. I was really emotional at this point, along with most of the other female guests (and my dad, ha).

    ReplyDelete
  22. Mauve, did not cry, and I cannot wait to see your wedding photos!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I kind of love the mauve - especially in the photo with the giant flower headband.

but definitely see if you can trial both!! You'll probably know when you've seen them both done on your own face.

    ReplyDelete
  24. i definitely like the first better!

    ReplyDelete
  25. the photo of michelle williams stands out to me because she looks really happy - i think it was the oscars. either look will be great for you, but i would stay closer to your natural look.

i didn't cry at my wedding, but did on my honeymoon because i missed my dog! so sad. i cry now when i think how happy i am being married to my husband after all these years.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i totally agree with vivi... you can have your cake and eat it too! i would do mauvey for the ceremony and red lips for the reception. you'll just need to make sure you'll have someone who can help you adjust the eyes.
as for crying, i don't know. my first thought is, "yes, definitely!". i was talking to one of my married friends about it, and she said that she was shocked to find herself not crying at her wedding at all. totally keeping it together. her husband, however was a crying mess. i've been to a couple weddings where i've seen this happen. apparently, you get wrapped up in all these nerves (not "what am i doing?" nerves, but "omg, everyone is looking at me!" nerves), that you get a bit of crying stage-fright. i can't imagine not crying because i'll find any reason to cry... but i guess i'll just have to wait until october to know for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  27. oh, and also...
yes, i'll probably cry. like a lot. like i might have to make signs with my vows on them because my words will be totally incomprehensible. I get teary just reading through our ceremony script. I am a total sap.

    ReplyDelete
  28. gotta go with the mauve. although red lips do look good with dark hair, it seems like in the photos you chose, the women all have very pale skin and hair to set it off. your coloring seems a little closer to the women in the photos with the mauve make-up....but, definitely try both at the trial and see which you like best on you. good luck. you'll look radiant either way.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I really like the mauve. It's more natural and a little less maintenance than the red lips. Maybe you could go for a lighter red like a stain rather than a lipstick if you're really set on the red? Either way, I think you'll look great!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love your make-up ideas. You are going to make a beautiful bride.

I am getting married in 18 days and I have already started crying - especially when I hear a love song on the radio. I just hope I am not a total mess the day of!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous1:37 PM

Go for mauve for the wedding ceremony and then jazz it up for later with the red lips!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. i switched my lipstick halfway through!! nude lips for the ceremony and cocktails/dinner, and red for dancing and more cocktails! chances are, you'll have your own bathroom in your bridal suite (if the place you're having your wedding at has one...) so you wont have to worry about pesky women bugging you while you're trying to re-apply! just make sure you get a good lip brush when you're at makeup forever.

ps, i also think your hair would look super cute with a style like the michelle williams photo!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. i think soft mauve is lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  34. red lips for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  35. soft mauve all the way!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Could Cate Blanchett BE any more ethereal? And Michelle Williams never looked better than when she was madly in love with Heath Ledger. Sigh.

I really love the idea of switching your makeup at the reception.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm a fan of the mauve! But I don't think you can go wrong with either, they're both stunning looks.

I don't think I will cry at my wedding. I hope.

    ReplyDelete
  38. i like the red lips idea as long as it's not too out of character. and if it doesn't get everywhere!

i think i like both ideas!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I would say the mauve for wedding ceremony, red for evening!

    ReplyDelete
  40. i love the natural look, but it's your wedding! there isn't a more perfect day for red lips than your special day!! congratulations!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jessica1:52 PM

Red lips! Classic, sexy and make for great pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nope.
It's usually the Groom the sheds the tears, from shear fear, I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Trends come and go, but think about how you will want to see yourself when you look back at your pictures in 10 years...maybe a happy medium? You most definitely do not want the smears that can come with red!
    Nathalie

    ReplyDelete
  44. yes i agree with the red, it is a romantic look but make sure its kissable and water proof and all the other proofs i cant think of lol i hope you have a great wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love the Mauve! I agree with DolceDreams!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am afraid of bright red. It always seems to bleed or smear and it's so hard to get off. Is the makeup forever like airbrushed makeup? Maybe their lipstick won't smear. Speaking of, has anyone ever heard of airbrushed makeup for weddings? I'm in a wedding and the bride wants us to get airbrushed. I'm slightly afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love the red and love to wear it, but it does tend to be a bit messy....I would suggest the first look. They are both lovely:)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I say mauve, but if you love them both, I'd ask your man & go with his preference! You'll be kissing people all day, but the BIG KISS will be the sweetest! I opted for no mascara, knowing that I'd cry like a baby...

    ReplyDelete
  49. MAUVE! Red lipstick looks classy now, but a few years down the road you'll be thinking "That's so tacky!"

    ReplyDelete
  50. I honestly think you have to decide if you want classic, fool-proof, been-there-done-that, or if you want slightly more unique and "you". My vote's the mauve!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Wear both! If you can't change it up on your wedding day, then when else can you? It's all about you! :)

I am defo going to cry on my wedding cry- mainly because I know my Dad will get emotional and that just sets me off big style!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oooh, I absolutely love MIchelle's hair. I have that exact photo booked in my own inspiration folder. Swoon.

You could pull off either, honestly. They are both lovely looks. I am leaning toward the red, though. Hot!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I would've loved the red lips but I have very full lips and smaller eyes (I am Asian after all hehe) so I went with the smokey eyes and natural lips. Plus I wasn't sure the red lips wouldn't rub off during the evening and I wasn't going to keep checking!

And I didn't cry... I was too busy laughing hehe :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I prefer the soft mauve, definitely. The red is beautiful, but I think that could be tough to pull off. Maybe that's just me though?! Can you try both and take a photo with each? Have fun!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anonymous3:00 PM

If you can only do one . . . I definitely think the red lips - you have such pretty lips and dark hair and I think it always looks awesome and classic!

However, i do like Vivi's idea if you are able to do two makeup looks for the day!

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I love both looks, it is so hard to decide! thought I like the idea of ceremony and party lips. that is a great way to get the both of best worlds! red lips, if not kiss-proof, might not be great for the big kiss at the altar, but they would be fabulous come party time! but like everyone else has said, whatever you choose will look wonderful for sure.

oh, and I will most definitely cry at my wedding. I am such a sap at other people's weddings that I know I am going to be an emotional mess on my big day, whenever that may be... :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. mauve! but it looks like i'm in the minority :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Red lips for you! Not many could pull it off but I think you've got it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I love both looks, but be sure to think about the kind of pictures that you'll have taken. If you really like black and white photos, the red lipstick will read black in those pics. But if you are all about full color photos, the red is really lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  60. It depends on what you're going for. For an outdoor celebration with a simple dress and wild flowers or hydrangeas or something like that, I would say the first basic makeup option. BUT for a dress with lace or a bit dressier and roses and an indoor wedding, I guess I would say the red lips!

Not sure if that logic makes sense, but it does to me... :)

Whatever you decide will be lovely, I'm sure!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous3:47 PM

the red lips are gorgeous, but for a wedding, i like the soft mauve better. i agree with some of the other commenters--you'll be doing lots of kissing and red lips would be hard to maintain!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Soft mauve for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  63. mauve - day
    red - night

    mix it up girlfriend!

i love your blog! no matter which way you go, you will be beautiful no matter what :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. i love both makeup looks...but i guess it kind of depending on your dress and wedding theme.

    ReplyDelete
  65. If it's a fall wedding, I like red lips. If it's summer, I'd vote for soft mauve.

I don't think I'll cry at my wedding, I really don't want to ruin my makeup. But hey, emotions rush in out of no where. So just be prepared you will. :)

    Oh I love weddings! LOVELY!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Where did you find the second mauve photo? I love everything about her: the make-up, enormous head-adornment, and what I can see of her dress... Do you have any idea where I can get a better look? Thanks and I love your blog! Oh, and PS, I think the day/night lipstick switch-up is definitely the way to go!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Either way, you are going to look gorgeous. But if I had to pick, I would say mauve because even though I adore red lips and no eye makeup, I think the more natural mauve look is beautiful for weddings.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I would actually pick the mauve! The second picture is gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  69. not to get too complex, but what about a bit of both? go neutral for the ceremony, then go over your eye makeup with something light and add deep red lipstick for the reception! i'm sure your makeup gals could teach you how to switch up the look, and you'll undoubtedly be touching up pre-reception anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I totally cried at my wedding! At the vows!

I love both looks. My wedding day make up artist told me every bride should look like the very best version of herself on her wedding day.

Take pictures of make up you like! I took a Vogue cover.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think they're both stunning, but they are almost two completely different personalities. Ask yourself which look feels the most like you...you will probably feel the prettiest if your wedding makeup is just an enhancer of your natural beauty. Also, I think the top look will photograph best, especially for summer. The red is gorgeous on fair skin/dark hair, but I like it even more in the winter.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anonymous4:37 PM

If you never wear red, don't do it on your wedding day. Like someone else said, you should look like yourself, only prettier. I had a friend who wore her hair up and it was the first time I had ever seen her hair up EVER and she did not look like herself at all.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Red lips. LABIOS ROJOS = Passion. And a bride should wear some of it... And you know, I'm sure a french girl would definitely choose red. Sans doute, mademoiselle Goddard...;)

    regards from Spain.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I do like the red a lot but I think the muave would be better for a bride it still stands out but is soft and beautiful. Unless you are doing a 40's style then red for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  75. lisa, i wish i could remember! i had saved them to my computer desktop so i didn't save the credits. oh! actually, i think they're from jenny yoo, the wedding shop.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Lovely make up.

We love your blog and have decided to give you some awards here:

    http://prettypollysprettythings.blogspot.com/2009/07/thank-you.html

    Love Polly and Polly

    ReplyDelete
  77. I love a softer, demure look for a bride. As you look at the photos over the years YOU want to stand out, not the lips. Whatever you choose, you don't want a "what was I thinking" look! You are gorgeous Joanna. You'll be a stunning bride.
I agree with The Beauty File.

    ReplyDelete
  78. PERFECTION. love the simple classic look .

    ReplyDelete
  79. hmmm...those red lips are pretty gorg...BUT the most important thing on your wedding day is that you feel "in your skin". So you have to wear what feels most natural to you so you won't be obsessing about your makeup all day.

    xo

p.s. yes i cried at my wedding, but only for a second...then i danced a lot and drank gin and tonics and generally had a blast!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I think I would cry almost from nerves and excitement alone!

    ReplyDelete
  81. P.S. red lipstick doesn't always show up great in black and white photography, something to keep in mind if that's what you're doing

    ReplyDelete
  82. I love both, but the more natural/neutral makeup looks stunning especially with darker hair. Best of luck and have fun, you look gorgeous without a skerrick of makeup anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Poppy K5:44 PM

Soft mauve all the way -as long as your coloring is similar to the photo it will look lovely and timeless.

I cried just a wee bit - so did my husband!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'd go for the lighter color. I loved Michele Williams look that night though...one of my all time faves!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I think the mauves will suit you beautifully.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hands down, the red. Classic and stunning!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I love the mauve, so soft and pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  88. i love the first pic - fresh and natural. the best wedding advice for hair/makeup i've read is to make sure you look like yourself on your wedding day. mauve looks the most like you do in your other pics. very sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'm tempted to go against the crowd, but i'll have to say RED! Go with that cause it's sexy and would clash beautifully with your white gown!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I definately think soft mauves for the ceremony and beautiful red lips for the reception : )

    ReplyDelete
  91. Anonymous6:53 PM

I like the mauve - natural, fresh, lovely. Maybe your makeup artist can give you a little little gloss, so you can touch up your lips as the night goes on.

Red is pretty, too, but more work to keep it looking great.

Whatever you choose, I would love to see some pictures on the big day.

I did start to cry (a little), but caught myself as I started to walk down the aisle.

It makes me tear up now to think about how much love you'll be surrounded by that day. Soak it in and remember every moment.

  92. oooo how I want to get marriieeeeddddd

    ReplyDelete
  93. Mauve, I think. I think it is softer, so romantic, and doesn't make people think oh look, she's wearing lipstick! With the mauve, I think you'll have to reapply less, have to worry about it smudging and being perfect all night. :D

    ReplyDelete
  94. I like the mauve. I think it's a softer look than the red lips. It seems more romantical.

And, heck yeah, I am sure I will cry at my wedding. I can't even make it through a Pixar movie without waterworks!

    ReplyDelete
  95. The first girl's makeup is perfection. I like that her lip color is deepish yet totally natural-looking. And I love a red lip, but who are we kidding- do you really want to be reapplying and worrying about it smearing on your wedding day?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I love the soft mauve! And yes, I'll be a crybaby!

    ReplyDelete
  97. The mauve looks more romantic, the red looks more "fresh" and fun. If I were you (but this is me, so, yeah), I might do mauve for wedding ceremony and red for the party (is that strange)? Or mauve on the actual day and red for the rehearsal dinner/pre-wedding parties and get-togethers.
Whatever you choose, it will be YOU and you will be gorgeous!!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Anonymous7:26 PM

they are both gorgeous, but if you can pull off the red lipstick (I can't: I have a red face...), then go for it. Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  99. mmm... mauve...

p.s. joanna, you don't know me, but i'd like to think i know you. (omg, did that just sound psycho?) there was this one day when i went through all past entries of your blog. it's THAT good :) wishing you a wedding day full of warmth, happiness, and love!!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. go with the mauve..it looks so pretty!!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Oh my gosh! Brill! Ceremony lips and party lips. I'm totally doing this for my wedding. At which I will be crying the whole time. And I don't see it being a sweet little cry. I'm a sobber. A loud one.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I will DEFINITELY be crying!

I love the soft look, but I also think you're bold enough to go for the red lips!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I love the pale skin and red lips, but wouldn't it be a pain to worry about reapplying constantly for pictures?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous9:27 PM

I love the top one - so elegant and subtle and kissable!

    ReplyDelete
  105. love the second photo!! had my wedding 14 years ago and don't think I cried. I do regret not having fun with it though. I cute my hair too short, my mother tore my gown as I walked down the aisle!! it was, well, an interesting day but we have 3 beautiful children and my love for my husband continues to grow everyday. So, have fun with your wedding but don't think it's the end of the world if it's not perfection. We have lots to laugh about now...

    ReplyDelete
  106. Anonymous9:28 PM

    So gorgeous! The first!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I love everything bout Michelle Williams. I'd like that hairstyle for my wedding:)

    ReplyDelete
  108. Pale-skin-and-red-lips is so classic gorgeous! I'd say go for it if your gown is simple and modern, so you balance out the entire ensemble.

Otherwise, if your gown is old-school pouf and frou-frou, then go for the first/"above" make-up, so as to avoid looking like you stepped out of a time machine.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Both are stunning! I would go with the soft mauve look, so classic and so becoming. It is a bit softer and a white or off white dress would look so beautiful with the fresh face of a mauve look.

Which ever you choose I am sure you will be just beautiful! Congratulations!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Of course I vote for red lipstick because that's what I had! ;)

    soft mauve! beautiful

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have NO doubt that I will cry. I am SUCH a sap for love! :D I absolutely adore the mauve- but the dramatic look is stunning as well. Have both done... you'll know which is right on you.

    ReplyDelete
  116. the first look is really pretty... if i had to narrow it down!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Sabine12:25 AM

Red as long as you're not paranoid about smudging, kisses etc... If you think you'll be worried then the more subdued mauve might be better.
Have you chosen which dress you're wearing yet?
I didn't cry at my wedding: we got married at my hometown's townhall in France and the person who married us kept on cracking jokes. Plus, no vows, which would probably have made me bawl - I don't think vows are very common in French ceremonies! I cried before though (happy tears of course!), but that's another story ;)
    Kisses xxxxx

    ReplyDelete
  118. The top one looks more bride-like to me, but I like them both. Have you thought about your vows?

    ReplyDelete
  119. I love the two mauve looks. You're gorgeous and will look lovely in whatever you decide. :D

    ReplyDelete
  120. Anonymous2:48 AM

not the red! please, not the red! it's so unnatural and in the future, when you look back on your wedding photos you will realize the red stands out too much. YOU want to be the star of your wedding... not your lipstick. definitely NOT THE RED. save it for your honeymoon!
    best wishes!

    ReplyDelete
  121. the first one! it's classic and gorgeous and gives more emphasis on your beautiful face! :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. Red lips and pale skin :) :)

I can't wait for your wedding!! Soon soon soon

    ReplyDelete
  123. Joanna, I know you not at all, but you seem absolutely lovely to me, and while the red lips are beautiful, the mauve look is simply elegant. The mauve is a lovely, innocent, wedding look as opposed to the in-your-face look of the red lips. It seems more you...to me. ;) You will be amazingly beautiful no matter what you choose.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Love the red lipstick - for an occasion like your wedding day, you want to look (and FEEL) sexy!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Anonymous8:23 AM

I have to go for the mauve but you will look fantastic whatever you decide. I like the idea of mauve for the wedding and red for the reception if you can't decide. I cried at my rehearsal but not at the wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Hey Joanna -- I've been away on vacation for the last week and have missed your blog!

I love the mauve look -- it's soft and pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I found another inspirational red lips photo for you while doing research for my blog:

She got this look 100% right!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Red, definitely the red. Just think how cool your photos will look when your grinning away :)

    ReplyDelete
  129. Anonymous10:41 AM

oh, the mauve. please. just infinitely prettier. less dramatic, but so much lovelier. (plus, red can look very harsh in photos, especially in daylight.)

as for crying, my husband and i both cried when we were exchanging our vows. not from nerves, but because of the depth of our love for each other.

  130. I don't know why I'm commenting, you don't need this much advice! But I love the soft mauve for you - I would want to look like I usually do as much as poss - do you wear red sometimes? Also think of all the potential kissing issues! But what a great idea to switch to red when you start to party!

  131. I love the pale skin/red lips look. But what would your husband-to-be prefer? I know my boyfriend cringes at the sight of red lipstick even though I think it's fabulous.

  132. i'm for sure crying and i love the first picture! cute blog! :)

  133. you have that perfect skin where either look would be fabulous on you. I think the makeup will depend on your hair...bc the red lips are so striking I think that your lovely eyes would really pop but then again, you can play up your eyes more and go with a more subtle lipstick...sorry...I know I'm not helping! :)

and ps...yes, I did think that I would cry at my wedding and I did indeed cry...huge alligator tears...I even put the photo in our album...

  134. I think the red lips look is so classic and beautiful. You may have to sneak off to reapply though (or assign a bridesmaid to mirror-stashing).

  135. I can't wait to see what you decide.
I am really in love with the red lipstick. But, I do worry about it smearing with all of the kissing.

I have cried at many a wedding, but surprising not my own.

  136. Mauve all the way- it is beautiful and will photograph well, is easily touched up and made more dramatic for nighttime. Red lips are also gorgeous, but the up-keep and number of ways it could go wrong are numerous- your lips could get dry, they could bleed, they will stain Alex etc.
Mauve!!It is more matte and better for a full day and night event.
    You are a beauty, ps.

  137. I vote for soft mauve.
and get a resilient lipstick--I think most of mine came off and I didn't have it on hand when I was greeting everyone--I wore pale pink too.

I cried when I got engaged, but I don't recall crying at the wedding. It's such an intense, surreal day, I was too overwhelmed to cry.

  138. I think that it depends on the time of year/day. The red in those shot seems to make me think of summertime and apple trees where as the more muted paler version seems to say winter wedding to me.

  140. I'm liking the soft mauve... but either way, I'm sure you'll be the perfect bride! And if I ever get married, yes, there will be tears for sure.

  141. red lips, pale skin with lightly flushed cheeks and black eyeliner.
That's what I did for my wedding, and everytime I look at my pictures I smile because I love my makeup so much!!
    I def recommend it!
ps- my husband cried WAY more than I did! haha

  142. ok, i realize i'm a little late in the game...but! i thought i would offer my two cents. i vote number one. the red, red lips are so lovely, but they would make me feel just a mite bit self-conscious...having said that...today i wore lip gloss for the first time in a very long time...and my what a fancy trick! obviously i am not a makeup expert...you will look lovely regardless! xoxo.

  143. I think the mauve is gorgeous, but not for a wedding. It looks too washed out and sad. The red is bold, happy and celebratory - so perfect!

  144. Ooooh, I think you would look lovely with the red lips- you have such a pretty smile!

  145. What type of makeup do you normally wear? Look like yourself. Do that but maybe a little turned up. If you don't wear red lips, then don't. You don't want to worry the perfect amount of lipstick is on at all times.

  146. I love red lipsticks in weddings because they add a glam factor and they're long lasting.

I think I will cry before my wedding but only because I'll be so nervous!

    ReplyDelete
  147. I'm sure someone has already said this - but if you wear red lipstick, be prepared to reapply it allllll day long (and you might have some pics where your lipstick isn't perfect, since it will show as it wears off). I don't think that's necessarily a problem, though! And you can safeguard against that by using a lip stain under the pencil and lipstick, and by choosing a lipstick that's soft so it won't flake off. ALSO, consider a cherry red lip gloss instead, since that won't show as it wears off.

My only concern for you is that if you go with a red lip, the rest of your makeup will be subdued, and if the red wears off you might end up looking like you're not wearing enough makeup for your wedding, you know? But the makeup artist can tell you aaaaaall about your options way better than I can. :)

  151. P.S. I've cried, or nearly cried, at every single wedding I've attended or worked so I'm pretty sure I will be crying at my own!

  152. I like the red! I didn’t cry at my wedding, but I always cry at other weddings? I think I was prepared for my own wedding and ready for all of the emotions.

  153. The top girl looks so young and fresh and michelle williams looks so glamorous and happy! Gorgeous! And yes, if I'm really in love with the person I would definitely cry....in fact if i was not really in love with the person i would probably cry a hell of a lot more!!

Mauve with the headdress! Great for the actual wedding ceremony, then go for the red lips as your 2nd look for the reception!
