Just married bikes

After our wedding, Alex and I are hoping to ride our bikes instead of driving a getaway car, so I was thrilled to see this awesome elopement. "We rode to the Brooklyn Bridge Park and had a secret ceremony under the shade of a willow tree," says the bride Kortney. Behind their bikes, the happy couple tied Lone Star and Old Style beer cans, since they hail from Texas and Chicago. Adorable all around!

  39. new yorkers are just so darn cool! i love thiss--I love that you plan on riding your bikes following the wedding!!

my roommate and i in a haze at 2 in the morning last night both bought citizen folding bikes (gotham edition). i'm hoping to avoid leaving mine outside for too long and thus avoid the possibility of theft. i'm moving from the uws to washington heights and since i'm not always a fan of the subway (heat and the crazies) i decided to get the bike to get to and from work in midtown. i hope it all works out--I'm very excited.

though if i does get stolen, i'm going the clunker route for sure!!

  42. Just wondering why and how she rode a boys bike in that lovely dress, maybe not the best choice while you are trying to be somewhat ladylike on your wedding day - but great idea and VERY eco-chic!!! love it.

  43. Could you two be any freakin' cooler? This is sooo awesome!

  44. Thanks for all the kind comments! The bike ride to and from the Bridge was certainly a highlight. We had pedestrians clapping and cars and buses honking! Regarding Bagel Power, both of us have ridden road bikes for 10+ years, and I was a former racer, so it was just natural to ride our favorite bikes! Riding in a skirt wasn't an issue, as I've done it for years and have found billowy, full skirts to be the easiest to ride in. However, there are skirt-friendly girl-specific bikes out there if you're concerned about such things. What made this so special for us is we did what felt comfortable and made us happy, and that is the best advice I can give to anyone planning a wedding! Best of luck to you and your wedding.

  48. Are you into Martha Stewart? I'm married but I still read her wedding magazine. It's the paper obsessor in me. Anyhow I thought I'd mention that the current issue features a couple that got married in Brooklyn and they rode off on Just Married bikes. The flags were pretty adorable with the words in this lush script.

And how could I not mention that it was lovely chatting with you and Alex on Sunday.
