Elopement

Shana and her fiance were madly in love but didn't want a giant wedding. So they decided to elope to North Carolina...
They brought along a wreath and fresh flowers.
They said their vows in a teeny chapboard church.
Their witnesses were Bobbi and Elbert from Mississippi. "We found them in the campsite restrooms where we got dressed," says Shana. "They LOVED getting to sit in the back row as we were married."
Wishing them a happily ever after. Isn't that romantic? See more on Frolic.

  4. I love that they still had a few pretty details, the perfect setting and a fantastic photographer- but they didn't let any of those details get in the way of the real meaning. It's just smashingly perfect and I love the way you wrote up the post.

  5. I love the simplicity of this. It's not about the flowers or the guest list or the caterer or the aisle runner... 100% love. Absolutely wonderful.

  6. I like the simplicity of it, but then again, I love a big party too. I know that if we eloped for our wedding, my husbo and I would be in a LOT of trouble, hehehehe.

and having an older, married couple (who you don't know) be the only witnesses to your wedding is so darn romantic.

  10. Sigh, the simplist smallest weddings can be the most intimate and romantic...no bridezilla issues, just the sincerest declaration of their love. Gorgeous.

  29. I JUST got back from looking at the reception all for 275 guests... and this just made me want to throw it all away and honor what our wedding is really about. If only our parents felt the same way... they want everyone to be there to witness it. Which I love too.

Has anyone had a simple ceremony before the reception? I really want to keep things as intimate for my fiance and I as I can when we say our vows.

  39. Gasp...I know exactly where that wedding took place! Cataloochee Valley in Haywood County, NC. It is a magical place indeed. They chose well -- it's a pretty remote area. It's part of The Great Smokey Mountains National Park, and you have to drive and drive and drive through mountainous windy little gravel roads to get to this absolutely stunning vista. There are several historic homes and buildings there, and they look exactly like they looked the day they moved all of their belongings out in 1934 when the park service came and took the land. Old newspapers peeling from the ceiling, bead board everywhere. Elk were brought in to roam the area freely, and they are plentiful, very active, and amazing to watch.

What a perfect place to elope!
