Wedding love

Oh my goodness, I am head-over-heels swooning-in-love with this wedding. The couple, Ethan and Nancy, got married in a California park with 175 friends and a $3000 budget. They made most of the decor themselves--including a thousand white paper cranes, which they strung from oak trees--and they enjoyed a potluck dinner with lemonade, beer and wine. The whole afternoon looks so relaxed, personal and happy.

Alex and I are having a city wedding, but if we were country mice, I would shamelessly copy this wedding from start to finish. :) See more here, here and here.

  1. That is so awesome! I made a lot of my wedding things, and we gave away tulip and daffodil bulbs as presents.

  2. This is so beautiful! I always say I want to have a pot luck wedding when I get married, and this is exactly what I would want it to look like!

  3. I love everything about this wedding! I cannot believe their budget was only $3,000 (about the budget I will be working with, for an out-of-town wedding, but only about 15 guests). The potluck idea is brilliant. If I didn't have family with so many food allergies, I'd throw an island barbecue!

  7. oh, this is perfect. so beautiful, so personal, so inexpensive!!

  8. We got married for less than 3000 bucks too. It's so much better than spending thousands on what could be 10 trips to europe or a down payment on a home.

  9. That is just wonderful! Just shows it doesn't really matter how much money you spend just as long as you're in love and have some creativity!

  10. I just love how special this wedding is. Probably one of my all-time favorites.

  11. What a wonderful wedding! It really does seem like the best day of their lives and everyone is having a blast. I don;t really dream about my wedding, but now I wish it would be something like this, so memorable... How do u make a no denomination no budget wedding with no guests to speak of memorable? I tell myself the marriage matters not the wedding... is it true?

  20. there is no reason that a lot of this would not translate to city living if you wanted. The cranes can be strung on filament from the ceilings....the rustic picnic feel and the potted plants. it would all be so charming.

I'm very hung up on charm this week.

  53. Couldn't be more in love with that wedding!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh my yes! Thank you for posting this. My wedding will probably look something like that, although I am thinking of a more Spanish feel. It's hard to find stylish example of budget weddings when the bride and groom already have children.

Although I have to say, I doubt I shall fold a thousand cranes. How about we make banners and streamers out of pretty paper, instead?

    ReplyDelete
  55. lovely! we are getting married in my aunts backyard and have been making paper garlands and poms and such. we are also planning to have some of our food "potlucked". i wish she had a big glorious tree like that in her yard!

    ReplyDelete
  56. i bet this wedding was super fun! who needs thousands of dollars of flowers and decor, after all it's about being together not showing off your money. i have been to quite a few weddings in the past two years. i have found, that i have so much more fun at the smaller less glamorous weddings, that are just super down to earth! these photos are also great!

    ReplyDelete
  57. You're right! This is so beautiful. And I love the look of the cake. I'm such a sucker for lavender! And rose! And all the things that smell like grandma's house.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I love the paper cranes in the trees, what a cute idea!

  59. This looks just perfect. I actually got the chills! Paul and I had a city-meets-country wedding in Central Park at the Boathouse. I would love to go to a wedding like this. How fun!

Dear Jo! I found my dream wedding style, after reading your blog for a while. It would be small, cozy, on a budget. I'll save for Max Wanger's photo from now on! Thanks for inspiring to find my own wedding style, it's hard to find the style you like, just like fashion. But now i know what i want. Even though it's 2 years away.

    ReplyDelete
  61. oh, nasne, i'm so glad you hear that! :)

  62. I'm at the start of planning my wedding...what an inspiration! I can't believe they created such a beautiful and personal wedding for only $3000. Awesome!

  63. Oh my - totally my kind of wedding. A perfect example that including many friends and family does not need to be expensive and over the top. Beautiful x

  64. If we didn't live in the city and have everyone coming from out of town we would have done something similar. Maybe our first baby shower will be something along these lines, when we get around to having babies.
