We had a party
My boyfriend Alex writes for the New York Times, but the only parts I usually witness are his late nights and requests for tummy rubs. But then he came home a few weeks ago and said he was writing a story about throwing a holiday party on a tight budget--with the help of uber-famous event planner David Monn! And the party was to be at our apartment! It was totally exciting.
I loved tagging along for this article. We had a dinner party with (cheap but delicious) twice-baked potatoes amid glittery snowflakes. The coolest part? Monn put down a white tablecloth, put a bunch of white Christmas lights in the middle and then covered it with white quilt batting. The table glowed!

The table is very gorgeous and intriguing- how did you get it to glow? And, if I remember about batting- it is flamable (?) and a bit wobbly because of the fluffiness. I SO want to do this table Christmas Eve Please let us know about the glow - that is just beautiful!

this is so great! loved the video!!! the set up looks wonderful.... i feel very inspired to cut down my grocery bill and only eat potatoes. it is possible.
the potatoes honestly were the most delicious thing we'd eaten in ages -- they were mixed with chili, cream, butter, etc etc....so good! (and filling)

we actually didn't make the potatoes ourselves--this awesome chef owen, who works with david monn, brought them over and we just reheated them in the oven. they were so good. i think he mixed the potatoes with marscarpone (sp?) and butter and sour cream, and then stuffed them back into the potato skins. they were so good and, i'm sure, totally totally bad for you! :)
ha, tam, not sure about boyfriend vs. fiance. fiance always sounds so weirdly formal to me, like that girl in the seinfeld episode. :)

perfect ideas! my daughter just saw your spread and said "those are the decorations I want for my cupcake party"!! You just saved me a bundle...I can easily make the snowflakes, and the rest I can make from Christmas decorations in storage...it'll will be a winter wonderland party! I love it :)

thanks so much, everyone! alex will be thrilled :) and daniela, david and his awesome assistants actually made the snowflakes. they're just blank copier paper (aka computer paper) and they made them with two pieces, then glued them together at the edges so they were 3D. then they added glitter and hung them at varying lengths from the ceiling. super easy and it looked amazing.

Twice-baked potatoes are the best. Actually, any kind of potatoes top my list. They're inexpensive, easy to prepare, and oh-so-delicious.

thank you so much! the party planner attached them to the ceiling with clear pushpins and white string. it looks really pretty. he said that when we take out the pushpins, we can fill the holes with toothpaste! xo
