Alex and I are thrilled to announce that we are ENGAGED! Alex was a total genius and planned a surprise sail yesterday afternoon. He asked me to marry him as we sailed down the Hudson River, along the Manhattan skyline. After I said yes (of course!!!), he brought out a bottle of Champagne. The sun was shining and the boat was flying along. It was such a magical and giddy two hours! Afterwards, we went to an amazing Austrian restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious meal and couldn't stop staring at the ring (the waitress liked it, too). We are now obsessed with calling each other "fiance."We're so excited and wanted to share it all with you.

And utterly jealous of your proposal, if I was at all smooth and sophisticated that's the proposal I'd have planned for my sailor boy. As it was, I asked him while we were sitting on our bedroom floor. Oh well, he didn't seem to mind but I think sailing along the Hudson would have seriously done it for him!
