Mexican Sculptures

Alejandra Laviada, a 28-year-old Mexican photographer, goes into old Mexico City buildings that are going to be demolished, creates sculptures from whatever detritus she finds, photographs them and leaves.

Her impromptu sculptures are so beautiful that it's hard to believe she creates them from junk.

Her gorgeous photos will be exhibited at the Danziger Projects starting October 11th. The opening party is this Saturday from 6-8. Hope to see you there? xo

  1. Wow....I just love the way artists minds work. Creating something so awe inspiring from nothing.

  2. Oh wow, that's quite impressive. I'm amazed she can create something so lovely so quickly from "junk." Guess goes to show you beauty can be created from anything and everything around you.

  4. Wow! That is incredible. I had a photography teacher who also loved to do sculptures and installations and her signature thing was to use panty hose to create rugs and other neat items.

  8. These are great. I love that she takes only a photo as proof that the sculptures were there.

I'm also wishing very much that I had been fortunate enough to wander into the building with all the big red letters laying about. I'm dying for the lower case e.

  15. I love the little nebulus of letters. And I love how each sculpture is so precarious, like it could collapse at any moment (and indeed, they will once the building is demolished). Such a cool idea!
