A Love Story: The Lamp

When I did this Cookie house tour, I thought the Todd Boontje hanging lamp looked really cool. But I figured it belonged in a nursery...

But then I saw the same lamp in the bathroom of Pia's Paris apartment. So sexy!

Yesterday, I stumbled upon the lamp again in the amazing home of stylist Cheri Messerli.

Hmmm, maybe it is a grown-up lamp. What do you think, dear readers? xo

  2. I think it's pretty versatile...the place where I get nails/waxing/etc done has some exposed brick with touches of fuschia and a couple of the big silver ones hanging in the corner...it totally works!

    my mom has two of those lamps that hang over the bar in the kitchen. it's such a nice way to add a bit of flavor to a space that's always so hopping!

  14. i'm not fond of the midsummer light (first image)...but it works in that room.

    i love the garland light in the 2nd and 3rd images. we piled on four extra garland light shades (silver) over the original garland light in silver to create a gigantic garland chandelier : )

    ps everyone should check out tord boontje's blossom chandelier for swarovski! it's a steal @ $29,000 ; )

  15. Actually, the lamp in the first photo (Midsummer) is made of Tyvek (tear-proof paper) is very different from the one in the other two photos (Garland), which are actually made of very thin metal.

    I've had a black Garland light in my closet for almost three years, unused. I think my ceiling are too high for it, because whenever I try to hang it, it looks too small for the space. I think it would be perfect in a tiny alcove area or a very small bathroom.

  17. I love all things Tord Boontje - like many others have said, his pieces add a little bit of magic wherever they go. I do think the garland lamp is lovely in any small space!

  19. I used to have that lamp, but it looks so different in person. It looked very college dorm in my apartment, which was dissapointing. It was also completely frustrating to put together! I ended up giving it away when I moved, as it would look even more ridiculous in my current tinier apartment.

  20. I would love to have the lamp in the dining room.. I love all these little cute lamps; I used to have four of those star lamps. They're still cute, but not for my house anymore.. Very nice posting with cute pics! Thank you again:)

    I have the silver metal garland one in my dining room as a chandlier. I bought two garlands to make it larger for the space. I love it. They are 1/2 off right now at CHIC-life. I am tempted to get the midsummer lamp now.

  28. I blogged about his lights on Sunday :) how funny! I was actually searching for his Until Dawn fabric I saw in the Apartment Therapy book. It was being used over a shower curtain and looked so beautiful. But then I saw the lights and fell in love.

  30. I love the garland shades but I agree, they are a pain to put up and seem to look better in the shop but it gets all tangled at home! I have 2 gold ones in my hallway. I also have a White Midsummer shade but haven't used it yet. Luckily I got it on sale :)

  37. we have a gold garland in our downstairs loo and it's perfect in there... I didn't find it difficult to hang up but I might think differently when I need to change the lightbulb...

    Those are actually two different lamps - the white tyvek one is called Midsummer Dream I think and the metal one is garland - in silver or gold. Moma store carries them. Very cool.
