Girl Crush
Through all the talk of girl crushes here on Cup of Jo, my ne plus ultra is French actress/singer Charlotte Gainsbourg. Bean doesn't think she's that pretty, and Alex thinks she looks like a young Keith Richards. But every time I see a photograph of her, my heart swells. She is my style icon and all-around role model for being a strong and awesome woman.

she is soooo photogenic, it's unbelievable.. when I see her on film I am not as amazed as I am by her on pictures. strange.

I think she is very pretty in a European kind of way. Very interesting and stylish and has an allure about her that makes her more fascinating which ends up making her look more beautiful. That top picture is the best I have ever seen her look. She just emanates Frenchness. :)

Check out Charlotte's portrayal of Jane Eyre...1996 movie version. She was wonderful. One scene has her looking at herself in the mirror and feeling so insecure.

She's great! And her music is as gorgeous as she is; her song 5:55 has been on my playlist for a while now. If you haven't heard it, you should definitely check it out. So breathy and melodic.

i'll have to ask my husband if he finds her attractive. i think she's one of the most beautiful and interesting artists around. it doesn't hurt that embodies my ideal: willowy, elegant, and insouciant.

She was so great in Science of Sleep. I don't think that she is a classic beauty but she is a talented actress and has really great style and energy that it makes her beautiful.

She is a paradox. She isn't so pretty and she does look like a young keith richard, but she is fabulous, graceful like a swan and her acting brings me to tears. I guess i caught the bug too.
Rent if you can one of her first movies (she was a kid) called 'la petite voleuse.' It's really iconic.

I love her! She not pretty in the traditional sense. She has a unique beauty that is much more interesting. Add to that charm, elegance and vulnerability... Total swoon! I think girls love her because we all want to be her bff.

i'm shocked that nobody has mentioned her father. he was a highly unattractive man, but women loved him. gorgeous women. charlottes's mother, jane birkin. and brigitte bardot. what a knockout.
serge gainsbourg is one of my favorite musicians of all time. his voice is one of the sexiest i've ever heard...and his music is hypnotic. give him a listen. there's also a modern tribute album to his best songs. listen to it, too.

Bonjour. Charlotte Gainsbourg is my style and beauty role model. She's not conventionally beautiful, but who wants the same look as all the runway and print models out there? Charlotte is brilliant and phenomenally talented and has a unique style that's only hers. If only more women would emulate her desire to be her own true self!
