The Alternative Sartorialist.

My friends, allow me to introduce Albrecht Tubke, the German version of the the Sartorialist. Although both photographers shoot real people on the street (or foot path, as the case may be), their methods are quite different: The Sartorialist walks around New York, searching for fashionable subjects, while Tubke parks himself in one spot and waits for people to come by. (As gallerist James Danziger said, "Sart’s a hunter, Tubke’s a gatherer.") And Tubke seems less concerned with haute couture and more interested in everyday people. Let's take a look at some of his subjects...

They live in cities:

They live in the country:

They wear suits:

They wear denim:

They come in pairs:

Great to know. I've been reading the Fashionist for a while. Its the bohemian San Francisco version.

It's fantastic to see the attention shifting when it's not about beautiful, modern or new clothing but the person, the face (not necessarily beautiful), the pose, the mimics and so on...

I agree with stilinberlin. I'm glad to see some naturality and rawness matching great photography. Thanks for this post.

These are really more like portraits, rather than simple clothing studies. Lovely. Thanks so much for this!

The older woman with the walking stick looks like she just stepped out of a Breugel painting. The twin girls look like they stepped out of The Shining.

Oh, thanks for this site! I love Sart's pictures, but these are really so different - more anthropological.

Doing some blog catchup on the weekend. Love this! There's somehow a heck of a lot of story in each of these photos, and not just a "fashion story".
