I grew up in Michigan, and it's super super cool. Big lakes, small towns, cider mills, sand dunes, hilariously bad skiing. My birthday is coming up and at the top of my wish list are these Michigan postcards. They're from a 1970's ad campaign, and you get 100 for $5. Say yes!

I have been wondering for a long time whether or not it was okay to drop hints such as 'my birthday is coming up' and 'this and that are on my wish-list' on a blog or such public forums. But if you do it, I guess that gives me permission to do it too! (I have found that Xmas presents are a lot better when I send my mum+sister a wish list that they can pick things from for me, actually). So let's not be shy about what we want.
ReplyDeleteWhen's your birthday?
haha, i wish-list it up whenever i have a bithday or christmas is rolling around. my family also sends me wish lists. sometimes it makes me feel greedy to send them, but it's a great way to avoid the standard soaps, gift certificates, etc....
ReplyDeletemy bday is jan 31st! i'm turning 29, woo hoo! xo
i just realized you have the latest-possible golden b-day, which is cool. so i assume the sufjan stevens album title came from this? say yes to michigan was a known phrase?
ReplyDeleteHa! I love 'em. My sister is begrudgingly moving to Michigan this summer and these would be kind of ideal for her.
ReplyDeleteYes M!ch!gan, the feeling's forever. I can still hum the tune to those ads.
ReplyDeleteomg, anon! now that you say the lyrics, i can totally remember the tune, too!!
ReplyDeletethe feee-lings for-e-e-ver....
These are frickin' awesome!
ReplyDeletei lived in sw-mi for about 6 years! i miss it, we lived on the lake and summer's there are incredible. can't believe i'm saying this, but every once in awhile i miss the snow.
ReplyDeleteand now i've got that song stuck in my head.
I lived in Utica, MI from 1974-78. I used to go to cider mills on field trips! Such a good memory - they'd give you a plain donut with your cup of fresh cider. Remember learning how to memorize the great lakes for the first time?
ReplyDeletethese are so great! awesome idea and execution
ReplyDeleteMy husband introduced me to your site, and we both love your posts. I'm a Michigan girl myself, and to find out you are too is just icing on the cake - there is always a Michigan connection, isn't there?
ReplyDeleteI loved the necklaces on this site to flaunt my Michigan pride:

This is great! Being from the "UP," very rarely do I find quality products which actually include our portion of the state...thanks!

ReplyDeleteI live ina tiny village called Candelo on the far south coast of New South Wales , Australia ( about a 6 hours drive from Sydney , wher I grew up)
ReplyDeleteI also have a son called Toby , but he is 36 !
Any time you'd like to swap a couple of weeks in Manhattan for a bucolic idyll in a charming 1920s timber cottage in Oz , I'm your girl ( well ,oldish lady actually ) . I reckon there could be a book in it !
