The Art of....Hanging Art

I have no problem finding art that I love. But once I get it, I'm stumped on how and exactly where to hang it. I end up arranging everything symmetrically. So boring! Seeking help, I downloaded inspiring shots from various blogs, including Design Sponge, SF Girl by Bay and Domino. I love these offbeat arrangements -- they show that it's okay to mix it up a little. Get out the hammer and nails!

Not exactly on topic, but I remember being at someone's house in England where they literally and gradually wallpapered a bathroom wall with postcards and magazine clips and photos. You could always find something new to delight over and never tired of searching the offerings. Of course, there were a lot of knocks on the door and anxious "Hurry UP!"'s...

  5. I love the image from ''Domino'' with the two Bertoia chairs in the foreground. They achieved a great balance despite so many different sizes and colors...I remember reading their little daughter did the tall drawing framed on the far right and I loved how the display incorporated such personal touches.

  6. Did I already say this? I can't stand when pictures/mirrors are on a dresser and leaning on a wall. Freakin' barf!

  7. A very helpful trick (via Martha Stewart, natch) for figuring out where you want your art:

Cut pieces of kraft paper the size of your art work and masking tape it on the wall where you think you'll want it. Spend a couple days walking into the room/thinking about it/rearranging it. Once you're sure, you can use the paper as a guide as to where you want to put that nail, send it through the paper, and then rip it down to hang your art work where it will make you happiest.

It helps. Especially if you feel anxious about the "first step" resulting in holes in your walls.
